Avid opens the Avid Centre of Excellence and ramps up its Northern European team

Date: 17/05/2010

13 May 2010 Avid (www.avid.com) has opened the Avid Centre of Excellence (ACE) within its head office at Pinewood Studios, London, England. ACE has been built to support the demand Avid has seen from its customers for a central European location where they can receive training, access the full range of Avid products and view solutions and workflows in a real working video and audio environments.

ACE took 12 months to plan and build at a cost approaching £1.5 million. Avid partnered with other manufacturers including: Think Logical who supplied a state of the art fibre-based routing system for video, audio and user interfaces and Panasonic, who supplied seven 65-inch plasma screens. Other key suppliers were Absolute CAD who installed and configured over 27km of cable and Evertz who supplied multiview display technology and HD SDI router. Paul Hennessy, vice president of sales for EMEA, said: Its a great investment for us. Weve really thought about the best way for our customers to receive the highest level of training and support as well as how to showcase our full range of products to our customers in workable environments that theyre familiar with. We feel that ACE really fulfils this need.

To coincide with the opening of ACE, Avid has made a series of new hires and promotions. Simon Sherbourne has been appointed as audio application specialist. Based in Pinewood, Simon will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with Avids professional audio clients. Simon has over 14 years experience in the industry having worked previously as technical support at Digidesign and as a Pro Tools/ICON trainer for the BBC, Granada and Talkback Thames. Most recently Simon worked as a mixer re-versioning foreign language films for Disney/Pixar.

Additionally, Mathias Hekton has been appointed as an application specialist and will be based out of Avids Stockholm office. Mathias has a very strong technical background and previously worked at Swedish film and TV production Mekaniken where he ran over 40 edit stations and planned workflows for hit shows such as Pop Idol and Farmer Wants a Wife. Tom Crocker has been also promoted to application specialist for video products across Northern Europe. In this role Tom will be responsible for supporting and advising broadcast and post production customers across the region.

Paul Hennessy added, Im pleased to welcome Simon, Mathias and Tom to the team. Between them they have a wealth of industry experience which will prove to be invaluable to Avid.

Cobalt Digital Targets Need for Multiple Video Feeds with openGear 9905 MPx Multi-Channel Processor Posted: 12/10/2021
Cobalt and reg; Digital Targets Need for Multiple Video Feeds with openGear and reg; 9905 MPx Multi-Channel Processor

Cobalt® Digital, an industry-leading designer and manufacturer of award-winning edge devices for live video production and master control, and a founding partner in the openGear® initiative, has answered the need for handling and processing multiple video feeds with its 9905-MPx multi-channel processor. The 9905-MPx is a next-generation advanced scaler/frame openGear synchronizer developed in direct response to customer needs for a single module that supports four independent signal paths. The card was highlighted during a press briefing held virtually on October 6th and hosted by Suzana Brady, Cobalt’s SVP Worldwide Sales & Marketing, who noted that the 9905-MPx was developed in response to customer requests for increased density, unprecedented multi-input support, and enhanced flexibility. The event also featured presentations by Dr. Ciro Noronha, EVP of Engineering, and Ryan Wallenberg, VP of Engineering. The 9905-MPx, an audio/video processor for baseband digital signals, is capable of handling up to four independent 3G signals in a single, dense, cost-effective package that provides all common broadcast processing functions without any quality compromises. The card includes individual up/down/cross conversion scalers that are specifically designed for broadcast video formats, with full ARC control suitable for conversions to/from 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios. The multi-path design offers discrete AES and MADI audio embedding/routing/mixing/de-embedding to any of the four processing paths. Standard 3D LUT features and available color correction accommodate SDR and HDR processing for downstream HDR systems, on a per-channel basis. The card also supports per-channel logo insertion, as well as ancillary data insertion/extraction.
