Broadcast Sports International provided seventeen Real Freedom microwave systems to CBS Sports for their coverage of the 81st edition of the Masters Golf Tournament, making it one of the largest deployments of top specification wireless cameras at a live event, if not the largest, of the year.
Sixteen receive sites were placed throughout the course and driving range so that the cameras and operators could roam unhindered over the course and follow the golfers into the rough when the drives were sliced.
These cameras had previously been connected to the truck via fibre, but the move to RF cameras gives them the ability to roam the fairways and surrounding areas and greatly increased their story telling potential.
H.264 encoders helped show the early spring beauty of the course in all its glory.
BSI used a bespoke return video system so that all cameramen could frame their shots around the graphics, and this also allowed the announcers on the course to see the coverage from the cameras.
All of the announcer microphones and portable effects microphones operated on BSIs own 1.4GHz wireless microphone system. www.bsintl.com
