Broadcast Traffic Systems (BTS) returns to the NAB Convention exhibiting on booth N4019-4 of the UK Pavilion in the North Hall and introducing to the US market a RIA-enhanced version of its Enterprise broadcast traffic management system. Designed for terrestrial, cable, satellite and IPTV broadcast networks, Enterprise is a scalable application containing all the modules and features needed to manage traffic scheduling and advertising sales. Modules can be combined to meet current operational requirements and added as business develops.
"Rich Internet Applications are ideal for use with Internet-connected remote-hosted systems," explains Craig Buckland, Technical Director of BTS. "With RIA at the front end, Enterprise can deliver a highly intuitive and pictorial user interface while retaining fast performance. Building on the current interface, which has proved popular in many existing Enterprise installations, RIA also adds the ability to run within a Web-based infrastructure. Adding RIA to Enterprise brings significant extra benefits in terms of reduced implementation time and simplified training. The service-oriented architecture inherent in RIA also gives customers and third-party solutions-providers the freedom to configure and create their own interfaces to other systems."
BTS Enterprise with RIA is available on Windows, Linux and Macintosh operating systems and is compatible with the Microsoft SQL server, Oracle and MySQL databases. The RIA functions are accessible on in-house networks as well as over the Internet. All that is needed on the client side is a browser.
Some BTS customers have already already begun writing RIA extensions to the BTS Enterprise system. Montreal-based broadcast infrastructure manufacturer Miranda Technologies has used BTS web services to help automatically build transmission menus.
Enterprise can be linked seamlessly with broadcast automation systems. In addition to playlist and as-run interfaces, schedulers have access to real-time ingested material information. Schedule content is fully validated against all the pre-defined rules and checks. These include checks for programme-rights violations, timing errors, missing media, invalid copy rotations, hourly minutage allowances and so on. The configurable schedule validation processes ensures that broadcast output is error free.
Routines such as automatic placement of promotions and commercials, schedule time checking and material validation, simplify the traffic process and allow minimal staff to manage multiple channels.
Real-time updating of advertising sales schedules and associated break availability ensures that sales executives can quickly react to schedule changes. Commercial spots can be immediately rescheduled, maximising revenues. Graphical availability views and alerts inform users of airtime to be filled and of breaks or overbooked programmes.
A comprehensive set of management reports and graphical analysis tools are provided with Enterprise. These are based on the operational database, ensuring that management information stays up to date. The information is also available over the Internet using the standard BTS user-interface, allowing remote access to management information.
