CACHE-A ANNOUNCES VAST ARCHIVE CAPACITY INCREASE AT NAB 2014 (Booth #SL9027)

Cache-A Corporation (www.cache-a.com), manufacturer of award-winning archiving appliances for the media and entertainment industry, will showcase Cache-A Library80+, the first in a brand new range of modular archive expansion appliances that can increase LTO-tape archive storage in 200TB increments up to 1.3PB. Cache-A has developed the Library80+ Expansion Option to meet the market need for larger, scaleable LTO-tape archive capacity, and will showcase the technology during NAB 2014, Las Vegas, at Cache-A Booth #SL9027.

The 6U, rack-mountable Library80+ Expansion Option, can hold up to 80 LTO-5 or LTO-6 tapes, increasing archive capacity to 200TB. However, Cache-A has plans to exploit the modular design of the appliance, which allows it to be easily scaled in 80-tape increments, to a total of 560 tape-slots. This makes for a total capacity of 1.3 PetaBytes in a single 19-inch rack, and provides the highest LTO-tape drive density per module of any mid-range tape library. This scale-up architecture also allows users to pay as they grow, by simply adding in additional modules to boost capacity and performance without investing in a whole new library.

The Library80+ Expansion Option integrates with Cache-As Pro-Cache and Power-Cache LTO-5 and latest LTO-6 generation archive appliances. It also works with Simul-Copy, Cache-As speedy LTO-tape read-once write multiple capability, and the companys new Workflow Templates and Incremental Archive features, also newly-announced at NAB 2014.

With the rise of digital acquisition, and trends such as 4K, the growth rate of data is exponential, with forecasts between 40 to 45% year-on-year. Thats a huge amount of data to both protect and keep track of, said Phil Ritti, CEO of Cache-A.

The Library80+ addresses requests from customers who have larger archive needs with best-in-class scalability, density and performance. It meets their short-term archive and disaster recovery data protection needs, as well as long-term archival requirements. The easy of scalability means that upgrades are fast and non-disruptive.

The Library80+ works seamlessly with Cache-As renowned built-in web-based catalog database, which makes it easy for users to track, search and retrieve content across every tape it ever sees. Administrators can manage, configure and use the library via the web-based interface for remote management and diagnostics.

As with previous generations of LTO technology, Cache-As LTO-6 systems provide backward compatibility with previous generations of LTO tape. The new Library80+ Expansion Option can read/write LTO-5 and LTO-6 cartridges and read LTO-4 cartridges, helping to preserve media investments and ease implementation. The expanded facility of the 200-tape slot Library80+ enables large archives to be kept easily accessible, and offers space-saving advantages for those who do not want to separately shelf-store LTO-tapes.

Cache-A expects to ship Library80+ during summer 2014, and will release further product and pricing information at that time.

Cache-A LTO-6 full archive appliance product family:

Cache-As product family now includes: Prime-Cache6, the quiet, compact/desktop entry-level appliance; Pro-Cache6, the companys flagship system with increased 6TB internal HDD RAID 0 or RAID 1 disk-cache storage; Pro-Cache610, the new 10GbE high-speed Ethernet version of the Pro-Cache model; the high-performance Power-Cache6 Archive Server for large archives; and Library24/Library48 and Library80+ Expansion Options.

DPA Captures Sound for Netflix Original Film Posted: 21/10/2021
DPA Captures Sound for Netflix Original Film: Oxyg and egrave;ne

When it came time to record the Netflix original French-language film, Oxygène (Oxygen in English), the audio team had quite the challenge in front of them. The premise of the scientific horror film focuses on a scientist, played by French Actress Melanie Laurent, who has lost her memory, awakens, trapped in a medical pod and must find her way out before the oxygen levels diminish. Given the setting, the pod is used for 90 percent of the film and, with its tight quarters, Production Sound Mixer Ken Yasumoto and Boom Operator Josselin Panchout knew they needed a reliable and unobtrusive microphone solution, which they found in DPA Microphones.
