Argosy Extends Reach of Touchscreen Interfaces between Operational and Local Apparatus Rooms at UK National Broadcaster HQ in London

Argosy, a leading international supplier of broadcast cables and infrastructure products, has announced it has supplied the UK’s public broadcaster with a number of ultra-reliable IP-based KVM extenders and data cabling as part of a building-wide hardware upgrade performed by systems integrator, VSC Design.

VSC Design was responsible for the overall systems integration, asset management, design, installation, change control, machine cloning and safety testing during the upgrade; and brought Argosy onboard to support the data cabling and KVM aspects.

The systems integrator rolled out a number of kvm-tec Smartline SVX ultra-reliable KVM extenders over IP, supplied by Argosy, at the broadcaster’s HQ in London. This technology extends the reach of touchscreen interfaces relating to the building-wide BNCS control system between operational areas and local apparatus rooms (LAR). The project also involved an upgrade to Windows 10 and a replacement of the server hardware associated with the BNCS control system.

Fincons Group to present innovative platform to accelerate Next Gen TV roll-out at CES 2020

Fincons Group, a leading IT business consultancy, will be presenting its new Smart Digital Platform (SDP) designed to accelerate Next Gen TV roll-out for media and broadcast businesses at CES this January.

The SDP introduces a revolutionary publishing tool that redefines application development as it enables automatic generation of applications, thus accelerating Hybrid TV and OTT service delivery. Broadpeak at CES 2020 Posted: 16/12/2019
Broadpeak at CES 2020

Today, quality is a critical success factor for video streaming services. Consumers want to watch video in the highest resolutions, with the lowest latency, on every screen. To deliver an amazing quality of experience (QoE) anywhere on any device, content providers and pay-TV operators need innovative content delivery solutions.

At CES 2020, Broadpeak® will showcase its groundbreaking solutions that provide the best video QoE through improved delivery within the operator's network, as well as inside the home network.  Demos will include:

• Gaining control over streaming quality: Broadpeak will give a sneak peak of its new solution that improves the quality of video streaming on any ABR screen — independently from the player. The solution can be used to reduce latency on live streams, deliver higher bit-rates for on-demand content and reduce video quality changes when networking conditions vary.

• Optimizing Wi-Fi: At CES 2020, Broadpeak will launch its new Wi-Fi Optimizer, which prioritizes video delivery over the other traffic in the home (e.g., video streaming vs. downloading a file), assuring optimum quality for consumers.

NativeWaves Uses the AWS Cloud Portfolio To Deliver A Multiview Experience To Austrian MotGP Viewers

Fans watching live broadcasts of MotoGP races in Austria have been given an exclusive opportunity to personalise their viewing experience thanks to pioneering broadcast technology developed by Austrian solutions provider NativeWaves GmBH.

NativeWaves collaborated with Red Bull Media House to debut this exciting innovation at the Austrian MotoGP in Spielberg. Fans watching broadcast coverage on Austria’s ServusTV have been able to download a free MotoGP 2nd Screen App and use this to select their preferred perspective from various camera views on their mobile devices. This allows viewers to watch all the action perfectly synchronised across multiple screens. This innovation was available for all races following the Austrian MotoGP.

NativeWaves utilized the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud service portfolio to bring this groundbreaking experience to viewers. AWS CloudFront was used to distribute the content and achieve scale, while various other AWS services contributed towards easy development and management of this operation. Starting from managed database services to serverless solutions, AWS provided dependable cloud services to ensure the success of this project.

Marcel Hasenrader, CEO, NativeWaves, says: “NativeWaves technology answers a problem that the industry has faced for many years and we are delighted our solution allows broadcasters to engage viewers by offering additional content seamlessly across multiple devices.”

ADTH Reports Successful 25th Anniversary Year Posted: 12/12/2019
ADTH Reports Successful 25th Anniversary Year

ADTH reports a successful 2019, its 25th anniversary year, including the opening during May of a new research and development facility in Taiwan's capital city, Taipei. 2019 also saw a major expansion of the ADTH Tolka range of broadcast, OTT and IPTV content protection products.

"Television technology is advancing faster than ever as the industry gears for the transition from HD to HD-HDR, 4K-UHD and upward to 8K," says ADTH CEO Michael Day. "Viewers have the option of larger display screens than ever. At the same time we are seeing an increased public desire to watch programmes via mobile phones and tablets. These diverging influences have the potential to coalesce into extremely high resolution wearable displays if computer users and TV audiences are significantly attracted by that mode of viewing. We see our role as offering the greatest possible choice in what, when and where TV viewers choose to watch and delivering the technology to make that possible."

The April 2019 NAB Show was ADTH's busiest ever exhibition in terms of product introductions, including the DV3358, a competitively priced new satellite IRD providing full support for conditional access. DVB-S/S2 input compatible, it outputs TS over IP, ASI and 3G-SD

ADTH Announces Support for SRT Open Source Project

Atlanta DTH, Inc. (ADTH) announces that it has joined the SRT Alliance, a broadcast media industry collaboration created to develop an open-source protocol allowing low-latency video streaming over the internet. ADTH will provide full support for the SRT (Secure Reliable Transport) protocol.

Developed and pioneered by Haivision, the SRT protocol optimizes streaming performance across unpredictable networks with secure streams and easy firewall traversal. It accounts for packet loss, jitter, and fluctuating bandwidth, maintaining the integrity and quality of a video stream.

"With its 25 years of experience in the broadcast and telecommunication sectors, ADTH is a very welcome addition to our membership," comments Haivision CCO & EVP Strategic Alliances Peter Maag. "With increasing support from across the entire industry, SRT is rapidly becoming the globally preferred standard for low-latency video streaming."

"Efficient and effective standards are essential to the advancement of any industry, not least in the OTT streaming sector where signal delivery needs to overcome many technical variables," adds ADTH founder and Managing Director Michael Day. "The SRT Alliance's aims and objectives are in full accord with our own strategy of promoting the highest possible video quality-of-experience securely, efficiently and at the lowest possible latency. We are SRT-ready."

Film students at FAMU in Prague get a lesson in audio with Calrec Brio console Posted: 03/12/2019
Film students at FAMU in Prague get a lesson in audio with Calrec and rsquo;s Brio console

The Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU) in Prague has purchased its first digital console - a Brio36 - from Calrec. It’s being used for various projects including automated dialogue replacement/voiceovers in the school’s recording room.

Martin Kebrdle, Head of the Sound Department Studio at FAMU, explained that the school needed a powerful console that could be used with Avid Pro Tools on several applications. “The console is connected to Pro Tools with MADI cards. In the future we plan to add Calrec’s Hydra2 networking. The console is perfect for our needs; it’s compact and it has been incredibly easy for the students to learn — which has been a blessing since this is the first time many of them are using a digital audio console. The Brio is a great introduction into the world of digital audio recording for our students.”

FAMU is the fifth oldest film school in the world and was founded in 1947. As part of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, FAMU is composed of eleven departments, where students can achieve their bachelors, masters and doctoral degree in every discipline of filmmaking including: directing, documentary filmmaking, scriptwriting, dramaturgy, animated film, cinematography, sound design, editing, production, photography, and the interdisciplinary Center of Audiovisual Studies. The Brio is installed in the school’s sound direction room. The sale and installation were handled by Calrec’s distributor Mediatronik S.R.O.

“The fact that the Brio is being used by students to help them prepare for careers in audio clearly shows the Brio’s versatility. It’s not simply a console for broadcasters; it’s useful for many applications and awards relevant experience for those learning an audio discipline,” commented Mike Reddick, International Sales Manager, Calrec.

Calrec Delivers for Liberman Broadcasting Posted: 19/11/2019
Calrec Delivers for Liberman Broadcasting

As the largest privately held, minority-owned Spanish-language broadcaster in the US, Liberman Broadcasting, Inc. (LBI Media, Inc.), produces over 50 hours of original television programming each week. LBI Media’s fast-paced news studios require adaptable, quick to set up and easy to operate audio solutions. In order to shift focus as rapidly as the news itself, LBI Media relies on Calrec Audio’s Brio36 and Summa digital audio consoles.

“We chose Calrec based on the company’s reputation within the industry and also to complement the rental trucks we use, the majority of which come standard with Calrec consoles,” says Chris Buchanan, vice president of engineering, Liberman Broadcasting, Inc. “We purchased the Brio36 earlier this year for LBI’s newly launched news operation in our Dallas (Irving, Texas) office, while the Summa was acquired last year as part of a much-needed upgrade at our Burbank, California facility.”

LBI Media relies on both consoles for live programming of its local and national news shows, including Alarma TV, El Mameluco, iTestigo, Noticiero Cierra de Edicion, Noticiero Estrella TV and En Vivo. As with any studio, real estate is important for LBI’s production spaces. The compact form-factor of the Calrec Brio 36 makes it a general-purpose workhorse and its connectivity with the company’s Hydra2 compatible equipment makes it even more versatile. The Brio 36 provides analogue and digital I/O and GPIO, which are built into the surface, making the console ideally suited for broadcast environments.

Network 10 Selects AWS Media Services For Richer Content

Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS), an Amazon.com company, today announced that Network 10, one of Australia’s largest television networks, has selected AWS Media Services to support its video transport structure for remote production in South Africa for its upcoming season of the reality TV series I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here, and to enhance the streaming delivery for live-streamed sports and Network 10 shows, including The BachelorAustralian Survivor, and MasterChef Australia.

Network 10 is one of the first companies in Australia to use AWS Elemental MediaConnect, a cloud video transfer service, which provides secure and reliable delivery of live video content. The technology enabled Network 10 to transport video from Kruger National Park in South Africa to its Sydney-based production studio for I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here during the 2019 season, and will be used again in the upcoming seventh season.

Using a combination of AWS Elemental MediaConnect and AWS Advanced APN Technology Partner, Aspera’s High Speed Transfer Service, Network 10 reduced its production turn around window from overnight to less than two hours, and in some cases, only a few minutes.
