CP Communications and DC Rentals Partner for Turnkey Live Event Productions

Date: 25/09/2019

CP Communications, a leader in innovative solutions and services for complex live event productions, has partnered with communications specialist DC Rentals to deliver turnkey AV, content delivery, and security services for large-scale entertainment events. The two companies will support music festivals, sporting events, municipal celebrations and other large outdoor events from RF7, a co-branded event communications and production trailer that brings all required infrastructure together into one mobile command center.

CP Communications and DC Rentals bring complementary skillsets to the table; the former is a renowned live broadcast and production expert, and the latter is a leading, multi-faceted communications solutions provider. The partnership ensures that all technology, crewing and expertise is in one place to support all audio, video, data and content delivery (broadcast, streaming) elements, as well as comprehensive event security and communications.

“The proliferation of large, outdoor live events has created a challenging atmosphere for event hosts because more services and assets are required to cover everything from in-house AV and live event streaming to critical public safety,” said Kurt Heitmann, CEO, CP Communications. “This partnership brings together 60 years of live production and communications experience as a full-service solution that will enhance the consumer experience and attendee security, while reducing the cost and complexity of hiring and managing multiple production teams.”

The 53-foot RF7 trailer comprises an impressive array of technology to fully support today’s largest live outdoor events. Core services include the acquisition and distribution of video and audio content over RF, IP and bonded cellular networks, and a digital trunking infrastructure to support thousands of two-way radios and hundreds of surveillance cameras. A flexible equipment rack and power infrastructure, along with a 50-foot mast, offers a scalable architecture to add and subtract systems and capabilities as required.

The CP Communications foundation includes a video production space and an engineering room to support transmission and surveillance. Heitmann notes that the AV and broadcast/streaming infrastructure includes six video recording systems, each capable of supporting nine camera feeds; a high-density fiber and/or microwave transmission core; and a flexible architecture to integrate audio mixing and recording systems as required.

The DC Rentals team adds comprehensive communications capabilities that include Motorola and Hytera two-way radios and digital trunking systems, and remote IP monitoring of live and recorded video. The latter is achieved both on board and on the move (via iOS and Android mobile devices), with the flexibility to create sophisticated split views and customized layouts on multiviewers inside the command center.

Chris Laquidara, President of DC Rentals, has supported some of the largest events in the country as well as large-scale public safety communications infrastructure build-outs, which strengthens his company's expertise for live event operations and logistics. DC Rentals recently provided communications and an event production trailer for Boston Calling, a large, annual, multi-day outdoor music festival in one of the city’s busiest areas.

"We recorded more than 119,000 Push To Talk (PTT) transmissions over those four days with no busy-signals and 100% up time despite local power outages," said Laquidara. “Our experience in producing safe, memorable experiences for tens of thousands of attendees will create an affordable and reliable one-stop shop when combined with the comprehensive, high-quality media and entertainment services that CP Communications provides for every live production.”

The RF7 event communications and production trailer is now available for live event support, and is deployable on short notice with flexible crewing and technical infrastructure to meet any scale.

LiveU 2019 State of Live Report Confirms Continuous Strong Growth in Live IP Broadcasting Posted: 12/12/2019
LiveU 2019 State of Live Report Confirms Continuous Strong Growth in Live IP Broadcasting

LiveU today presents its annual ‘State of Live’ report based on data gathered from its global customer base of thousands of users. The findings reflect the substantial growth in IP news and sports broadcasting with a 50% increase in the number of LiveU units used to stream live events and 250% increase to around 20 million in live sessions overall.

HEVC continues to play a key role in live transmission, which is pivotal for live sports productions. This is due to the higher quality video performance and bandwidth efficiency enabled by HEVC technology. LiveU reports a 65% growth in HEVC units deployed worldwide and over 400% growth in HEVC-based sessions. Nearly 50% of the field units used to stream sports are HEVC-based with almost 80% of sports sessions transmitted in HD.

The increasing deployment of cellular bonding technology for live sport coverage has been evident worldwide. Following the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019™, Kevin Callahan, VP, Field Operations & Engineering, Fox Sports said, “We always get energized if there is a huge buzz at home and this World Cup surpassed all our expectations with the success of the US Women’s soccer team. LiveU’s LU600 HEVC portable transmission unit provided the backbone for our ENG shoots that were not at the stadium, enabling us to increase the number of live feeds. We also sent content to multiple locations simultaneously using LiveU’s Matrix IP cloud video management platform, making the content available to Fox TV stations that wanted to integrate live shots into their newscasts.”

Fusion Studio Used to Create Animated Feature, Latte and The Magic Waterstone Posted: 11/12/2019
Fusion Studio Used to Create Animated Feature, Latte and The Magic Waterstone

Blackmagic Design today announced that Grid VFX relied on Fusion Studio throughout its in house compositing pipeline to deliver newly released children’s animated feature, Latte & The Magic Waterstone.

Directed by Regina Welker, the team’s latest project ‘Latte & The Magic Waterstone’ involved the completion of more than 1,200 visual effects shots, including the complex compositing of background and foreground plates and CG render layers for 3D assets, lighting, procedural effects, and more.

“Latte was a huge project for us. It’s a feature animation with a limited budget, so we knew we had to work as efficiently as possible,” begins compositing supervisor at Grid, Laurens Bekaert.

“Fusion’s GPU accelerated render engine was amazing at being able to handle geometry and 3D space compared to alternative compositors. We could add smoke and particles behind our characters and see a good representation of how they would look in 3D instantly, without needing to re render.”

Custom Consoles Module-R Desks and MediaWall Monitor Display Mounts Selected for Cardiff University School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies Posted: 10/12/2019
Custom Consoles Module-R Desks and MediaWall Monitor Display Mounts Selected for Cardiff University School of Journalism, Media and amp; Cultural Studies

Custom Consoles announces the completion of Module-R studio control desks and two MediaWall monitor display mounts for Cardiff University's School of Journalism, Media & Cultural Studios. The desks and display mounts form part of a full broadcast-quality news studio facility designed by UK-based system integrator ATG Danmon.

"We were invited to propose a turnkey solution based on an outline specification provided by the university," explains ATG Danmon Managing Director Russell Peirson-Hagger. "The project coincided with a relocation to new city-centre premises. It comprised a large TV studio and dedicated gallery, a smaller TV studio with its associated gallery, plus a broadcast newsroom. These will be used to train the next generation of television, radio, online and printed-media journalists. Module-R desks and MediaWalls are used in many broadcast facilities in the UK, Europe, MENA and Asia, so were a logical choice given the need to match the functionality and processes of a real broadcast environment. They are robustly constructed, ergonomically efficient for engineering staff and well as operators, and attractively styled. Both product series also gave us the freedom to match the available room dimensions from standard modular elements."

Anevia Drives Expansion of Argentinian OTT TV Service Posted: 10/12/2019
Anevia Drives Expansion of Argentinian OTT TV Service

Anevia, a leading provider of OTT and IPTV software solutions, for the expansion of its multiscreen TV service.

The expansion was driven by the exponential growth of the market locally, as well as geographical inroads of the multiscreen TV service into other South American countries. To scale up, the telecommunication service provider chose the Anevia Embedded Distributed Storage (EDS) technology, where the same servers are used for both computing and storage. This enables costs to be kept under control by halving the number of physical rack units needed.

The operator has also continued expanding its CDN infrastructure using Anevia’s NEA-CDN® solution which enables it to ensure high quality during football matches and other peak traffic events as well as supporting the cutting-edge features required for interactive OTT television.

"We are thrilled that Anevia’s technology has once again been trusted to deliver premium services for OTT television, after four years of spectacular success with this OTT offering in Argentina," says Anevia CEO Laurent Lafarge. "Our EDS technology is widely recognised to be much more reliable and scalable than a traditional NAS architecture. It enables TV operators to thrive as they scale up."
