CTV Invests in Leader Master Reference Test Instruments

CTV, one of Europe's longest established providers of mobile television production facilities, has chosen Leader LV7300 and LV7600 rasterizing waveform monitors as master reference instruments for its OB3 and OB12 outside broadcast vehicles.

"Leader test instruments have proved highly reliable, efficient and operator friendly right back to our first purchase of LV7770 multi-SDI rasterizers six years ago," comments Paul Francis, CTV's Chief Technical Officer. "Some of the projects we work on are massive in scale, taking in feeds from well over 100 cameras. High-precision monitoring of HD and UHD signal flow is vital, both to achieve accurate matching of incoming feeds and to ensure that we are maintaining the full available dynamic range from source right through to output. This latest purchase comprises 12 LV7300 and two LV7600 instruments. Both models can be fully operated from the front panel which, combined with their compact size, makes them ideal for use in OB suites. We normally assign the output to a multiscreen display where it can be viewed easily from any part of a production suite. The LV7300 and LV7600 have a very similar control menu structure so operators can move freely between them. The resultant measurements are precise, repeatable and can be copied off to USB memory for easy logging or sharing."

"These instruments fully live up to their reputation as the Swiss Army knives of the broadcast video and audio production industry," adds Thameside TV Sales Manager Chris Margrave-Gregory. "Leader's LV7300 in particular packs more features into its size than practically any broadcast-grade test instrument on the market while still maintaining the highly robust build quality which is essential in any product taken out on the road. Both of the LV7600 units include the SER03 16-channel audio display option and one also has the SER05 10G IP input and analysis module. We pre-installed these accessories as plug-ins. All 12 instruments can be upgraded to 4K when required via Leader's ZEN-series software unlocking path."

Occupying a half-rack width 1U form factor, the LV7300 is a 4K/HD/SD HDR rasterizer designed for use in studios, trucks, postproduction facilities and playout suites. CINEZONE and CINELITE come as standard on both products, continuing Leader’s long heritage of providing products that support operational and engineering test and measurement requirements within a single instrument. It provides full support for SD-SDI right up to single-link 12G-SDI sources, including HD-SDI and 3G-SDI. The standard feature set includes HD-SDI up to 12G-SDI signal generation, SDR and HDR signal monitoring, video signal waveform display, vector waveform display and source image display with high sensitivity focus detection. Multiple displays can be operator-configured for simultaneous viewing on the rasterizer output screen. Optional features include eye pattern and jitter measurement, closed-caption monitoring, CIE color chart, high dynamic range measurement, built-in test pattern generation, focus assist, customizable layout, tally interface, 4K/UHD operation and 12G-SDI interface.

Housed in a low-profile 19 inch 1U form-factor for easy rack or desk mounting, the LV7600 rasterizer provides all the facilities needed to seamlessly monitor UHD/HD/SD SDI as well as video over IP signals. It includes a broad set of engineering-related features including test pattern generation, eye pattern display, jitter measurement, closed-caption monitoring, CIE color chart, high dynamic range measurement, focus assist, operator-configurable screen layout, tally interface, 4K/UHD operation, 10G IP input and 12G-SDI interfaces. SMPTE 2022-6, SMPTE 2022-7 and the recently published SMPTE 2110 protocols are all supported. The LV5600 also incorporates Leader's intuitive CINEZONE and CINELITE which are familiar to many content production staff.

Why DejaEdit is considered an indispensable Collaborative tool in Film Productions Posted: 22/05/2020
Why DejaEdit is considered an indispensable Collaborative tool in Film Productions

Anna Knochenhauer is a well-respected Stockholm-based film producer/ post-producer with impressive titles to her name which include the likes of “Euphoria” featuring Alicia Vikander; “Welcome to Sweden” season 2 starring Jason Priestly and others.

Carving a successful career of VFX-heavy feature films and drama series, she declares DejaEdit is a revolutionary film tool that should be included in every production as industry standard. She uses DejaEdit in all her productions now, including recent films “Alone in Space” (2018), “White Wall” (2020) and “We Got This” (2020).

DejaEdit is a media file synchroniser that gives editors the ability to collaborate super-efficiently between multiple remote Avid editing platforms. “I depend on DejaEdit for all my productions because it ensures that the media files and timelines that we have created or imported in one connected system are shared and mirrored to the local or network storage of other connected systems. It all takes place quickly, securely and automatically in the background...
The fact that DejaEdit ensures all media is pushed automatically to all connected Avids means that the Assistant Editor (AE) or Editors don’t ever have to search for any missing media files. DejaEdit has saved us a lot of time and headaches."

Intinor to Demonstrate How to Do Remote Production in Live Webinars With Skaarhoj

Intinor Technology, Sweden’s leading developer of products and solutions for high quality video over the internet, will be demonstrating how to do remote production in a series of live webinars with Danish company Skaarhoj, manufacturers of universal broadcast control panels. The aim is to showcase how the remote production tools from both Intinor and Skaarhoj complement each other to give a flexible, secure workflow for live production using a variety of different content sources and locations.

Interest in remote production workflows (or REMI) has been on the increase for some time now already. Even before the current global social distancing requirements created an added incentive for broadcasting companies to seek an alternative to the traditional travel-dependent methods of production, the economic and productivity benefits that REMI offers enables companies to more easily meet the rising demand for live content.

Anevia Adds Multi-tiered Storage to its Cloud DVR Storage Offering Posted: 20/05/2020
Anevia Adds Multi-tiered Storage to its Cloud DVR Storage Offering

Anevia announces the addition of multi-tiered storage to its Cloud DVR storage offering, Embedded Distributed Storage (EDS). This new feature makes EDS even more cost-efficient and scalable while also enabling storage in the cloud – meaning the solution becomes both flexible and elastic.

TV service providers are increasingly enriching their VOD content and need to expand their storage capacity without a commensurate increase in the number of users. The original hyper-convergent design of the scalable, high-performance EDS calls for more servers to be added to increase streaming and storage capacity in parallel. Multi-tiered storage means it is now possible to also increase storage capacity independently of streaming capacity.

With only a small fraction of the VOD catalogue being consumed regularly, long-tail content can be stored more efficiently and cost-effectively on general-purpose ‘cold storage’ support used by the IT departments. This eliminates the need to buy new servers and the related software licences, cutting both the complexity and the cost of scaling for a given number of users.

The newly introduced feature also enables object storage, which opens up the possibility of storing in the public or private cloud. This brings the advantages of scalability, flexibility and elasticity.
