Sachtlers FSB 8 T Goes Off-the-Grid for Mountain Men Shoot

The crew at Warm Springs Productions might be laid back and friendly, but when it comes to producing their outdoor reality television and hunting shows, its all professional. We use only the best equipment, and only the best tripods to keep the cameras stable, says equipment manager Mike Schweizer. Thats why we use Sachtler tripods and heads on all our shoots. Theyve been to the deepest swamps and the snowiest peaks. We trust our tripods to keep a steady shot in -50 degrees, in waist-high water and in torrential downpours. Sachtler is part of Vitec Videocom and a Vitec Group company.

OConnors 2575D supports a hectic schedule for Til Schweigers Films Kokowh 2 and Schutzengel
Australian DP Adrian Cranage lived through some eventful months in 2012. Together with actor and director Til Schweiger, the DP made two films back to back: Schutzengel and Kokowh 2. Adrian Cranage used his 2575D fluid head by OConnor, part of Vitec Videocom, a Vitec Group company, to contribute to the successful films. "Without my well-coordinated team and OConnor, our project would not have been possible," says the experienced cinematographer.

PAG Power for DSLR and Digital Cinema Cameras Posted: 14/01/2013
PAG Power for DSLR and amp; Digital Cinema Cameras

PAG has introduced new battery mounts and power leads that make it possible to power the latest DSLR and digital cinema cameras using its PAGlink intelligent, high-power, linking battery system.

The PAGlink battery system was conceived with multi-camera compatibility in mind. Rather than using a different batteries and chargers for each camera type, PAG anticipated that it would be more efficient to use the V-Mount (V-Lok/V-Lock) Li-Ion batteries, designed for shoulder-mounted broadcast cameras, for every camera power application. When combined, two PAGlink batteries have a capacity of 192 watt-hours and a current draw capability of 12A, which is superior to the 10A provided by so-called high-current cell technologies. If required, PAGlink allows a third or fourth battery to be added, providing endless power for any camera set-up. The key was to create a system of compact, lightweight batteries that could be used individually for small, low power-consumption cameras (DSLR, Blackmagic Digital Cinema, Canon C300/500) which could then be linked, combining capacities for set-ups that have a higher power consumption or that draw a greater current (Arri Alexa, Red One/Epic/Scarlet, Sony F55/F65 etc). The packs incorporate the high-current contacts required for such demanding applications. PAGs approach gives you high-capacity Li-Ion batteries that employ less expensive standard Li-Ion cell-technology. Combining the capacities of individual 96Wh Li-Ion batteries ensures that all your batteries are legally transportable by passenger aircraft.

Sachtler supports up-and-coming filmmakers in the making of a tragic comedy

The face behind gobLIN Pictures Entertainment is a successful young film group from Mainz, who has mostly produced short films since 2005. Recently, "Eine Nacht im November" (Engl.: "A Night in November") was very successful. The 17-minute film is the winner of the Magix Video Friday 2010 and was nominated several times at a variety of youth film festivals. Tom Frey, founder of gobLIN Pictures, fills the roles of screenwriter and camera operator during productions. He is also the director. With every new project, the team has grown, so that the filmmakers from Mainz now also professionally realize more elaborate projects. To shoot "I-di-ot", they had the opportunity to use professional equipment: Tom Frey filmed with a Canon EOS 7D on a Sachtler System 18 S1 ENG 2 MCF.

Petrol Bags at the shoot of the short film Monsieur Du Lit Posted: 30/04/2012
Petrol Bags at the shoot of the short film Monsieur Du Lit

Monsieur Du Lit is the name of a short film which was filmed by Fabian Weber for the Swiss Hotel Association with a Canon EOS 7D. It has been nominated for the Swiss Hotel Award 2011. As camera support, the DSLR Camera Rollpak from Petrol Bags, part of Vitec Videocom, a Vitec Group company, was on the set and provided optimal protection for the camera and film equipment. In the 5-minute comedy, six actors appear, among them Gilles Tschudi, who is one of the most famous Swiss actors. However, the actual protagonist is a talking hotel bed, which has all kinds of stories to tell. After all, it is a bed in a luxury suite and therefore leads an especially varied and interesting life.

Flexible transportation possibilities

Filming for the scenes with Monsiuer Du Lit took place in a hotel suite at the Schweizer Hof in Luzern as well as outdoors to tell the stories of the individual bed users. With principal photography lasting just two days, the equipment frequently had to be transported. "I find the transformation from a backpack to a trolley especially helpful," says Weber. "I was really glad I was sometimes also able to roll the heavily laden backpack, particularly when filming outdoors." The flexibility and quality of the Camera Rollpak won him over when changing film locations as well as when leaving and arriving.
