Magewell Adds SRT Streaming to Free Capture Express Software Posted: 15/04/2020
Magewell Adds SRT Streaming to Free Capture Express Software

Magewell today announced a new upgrade of its free Capture Express recording application that expands the software's streaming capabilities. Version 3.2 adds new support for multiple streaming technologies including the Secure Reliable Transport (SRT) protocol developed and open-sourced by Haivision.

While Magewell capture devices feature extensive compatibility with popular third-party software for streaming, live production, web conferencing, lecture capture and more, the Capture Express software offers Magewell users a lightweight, dedicated tool for recording, previewing or streaming input sources. Originally designed to help users easily verify their input signals and capture devices, Capture Express has evolved into a simple yet full-fledged capture application supporting video up to 4K at 60 frames per second.

Version 3.0 of Capture Express initially offered easy recording and previewing functionality, and the subsequent version 3.1 added the ability to stream H.264-encoded video using the RTMP protocol. Now, version 3.2 further expands the software's streaming flexibility with support for the SRT protocol as well as MPEG-TS over UDP or RTP. Enabling secure, reliable, low-latency video delivery over unpredictable networks, SRT ensures high-quality streaming experiences even over the public internet. Magewell is a member of the SRT Alliance.

Vicon wins DNEG Contract Posted: 06/02/2020
Vicon wins DNEG Contract

Oxford Metrics plc (AIM: OMG) the international software company servicing government, life sciences, entertainment and engineering markets, is pleased to announce that Vicon, a world leader in motion measurement, has signed a contract with visual effects provider, DNEG for Vicon’s flagship Vantage solution utilising both its Tracker and Shgun software.

With over 20 years of industry experience, London-headquartered DNEG has won the Academy Award for ‘Best VFX’ for four out of the last five years. In total, DNEG has been honoured with five Academy Awards, five BAFTAs, two Emmys and eleven Visual Effects Society Awards.

Initially, the Vantage system and Tracker software will be utilised for camera tracking during film shoots. Tracking and understanding the exact position of film cameras will enable them to accurately composite live action footage with their visual effects, providing a seamless final production. Adding motion capture to their toolkit will enable the DNEG team to capture the performances of actors and precisely recreate virtual environments within their various studios across the world.

Isaac Partouche, DNEG’s Head of Virtual Production, commented: “When you are tracking the position of film cameras, especially on a busy set, markers can sometimes be obstructed, which impacts the accuracy of the data. Thanks to features within Vicon’s Tracker software, jitter is minimised when obstructions do happen. Furthermore, adding Vicon’s Shgun software will also allow us to stream real-time motion capture data direct into a game engine to visualise CG characters. Coupling this with the high precision of the Vantage system means that Vicon really delivers on our camera tracking requirements.”

Nick Bolton, CEO of Oxford Metrics, commented: “DNEG has delivered some of the most stunning visual effects on blockbuster movies and television series and we are delighted they have chosen Vicon to help with their upcoming productions. Not only have they invested in a solution that delivers on their current requirements, but by adding our Shgun software, they can extend the capabilities of the system for future productions. We are looking forward to working with them and are excited to see the effects they will go on to produce.”

Magewell to Showcase New Capture, Conversion and Streaming Innovations at ISE 2020

The final ISE exhibition in Amsterdam before the show’s move to Barcelona is shaping up to be a big one for video capture, conversion and streaming innovator Magewell. Exhibiting in stand 8-G475 from February 11 to 14, the company will feature the global debuts of new products alongside the first ISE showings of several recently unveiled solutions.

Making its world premiere at ISE 2020, the ultra-compact, power-efficient Eco Capture SDI 4K Plus M.2 card captures 4K video at 60 frames per second over a single-link, 12G-SDI interface for use with popular AV software applications. Magewell to Premiere Ultra-Compact, 12G-SDI M.2 Capture Card at ISE 2020

Magewell will launch a powerful new model in its Eco Capture family of ultra-compact, power-efficient, M.2 video capture cards at the upcoming ISE 2020 exhibition in Amsterdam. The high-performance Eco Capture SDI 4K Plus M.2 captures one channel of 4K video up to 4096x2160 at full 60 frames per second over a single-link, 12G-SDI interface. The new card will make its global debut in stand 8-G475 at the event, taking place February 11-14, 2020.

Ideal for use in small and embedded systems where full-sized PCIe slots are not available, the cost-effective Eco Capture family offers systems integrators and OEM developers a robust capture solution with low power consumption for space-constrained applications. The low-latency Eco Capture devices feature a high-speed PCIe 2.0 bus interface with an M.2 connector and measure just 22x80mm (0.87x3.15in), matching the M.2 2280 size specification.

The new 4K 12G-SDI model joins four existing Eco Capture M.2 configurations: a single-channel model that captures 4K video at 30fps via an HDMI interface; dual-channel models that capture HD and 2K video over HDMI or SDI; and a quad-channel HD/2K model with SDI inputs. All five Eco Capture products also support up to eight channels of embedded audio per input.

StreamGear Fuses Smartphone and Dedicated Cameras into New Live Video Production Paradigm with VidiMo Posted: 07/11/2019
StreamGear Fuses Smartphone and Dedicated Cameras into New Live Video Production Paradigm with VidiMo

Video content creators ranging from professionals to social media enthusiasts can soon have a better way to share their vision with their audience through high-quality live productions. Streaming solutions startup StreamGear Inc. will come out of stealth mode at tomorrow's StreamGeeks Summit conference in New York City by launching VidiMo, a new hardware-and-app combination that turns a smartphone and external video source into a full-fledged, virtual video production and transmission facility.

Providing an easier way to create and share engaging live video content, the VidiMo system enables a single person with a smartphone and a video camera to produce multi-source, television-style shows that can be streamed live, recorded or both. While smartphone camera quality has improved over the years, it's still no match for the rich creative functionality -- such as optical zoom, tactile focus, iris control and depth of field -- of a dedicated video or DSLR camera. VidiMo lets users have the best of both worlds, bringing an HDMI video source into their smartphone and combining it with the phone's camera and other sources.

VidiMo -- the Video director on Mobile -- enables anyone to become a social media video star or citizen journalist. In its simplest use, VidiMo lets users capture an external HDMI video source into their iOS or Android smartphone and stream it. But VidiMo's extensive, advanced features and fast, intuitive interface also enable producers to create visually-compelling, professional-looking live shows in real time without needing to edit and upload them later.

The VidiMo system consists of the VidiMo Go hardware and VidiMo App software for iOS and Android smartphones. VidiMo Go's innovative physical design forms a complete handheld production solution, acting as a capture device; attaching any size of smartphone to a professional or sports/action camera; and allowing flexible positioning of the phone for easy interaction with the app. VidiMo Go captures live HDMI and analog audio signals into the smartphone, and is powered by an interchangeable, rechargeable battery. The VidiMo Go hardware's unique combination of functionality and ergonomics led to it being selected as a finalist in the 2019 International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) by the Industrial Designers Society of America.
