Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro on Tour with Little Mix Posted: 15/01/2020
Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro on Tour with Little Mix

Blackmagic Design today announced that live video for the European dates of Little Mix’s LM5 Tour was delivered by the LED Shed, who relied on acquisition and control hardware from Blackmagic Design. The solution featured URSA Mini Pro fiber chains and ATEM 4 M/E Broadcast Studio 4K.

LM5: The Tour is the sixth concert tour by British pop girl group, Little Mix. Opening at the WiZink Center in Madrid in September, the European tour has spanned 40 shows in total, concluding at London’s O2 Arena.

A multicamera fiber workflow was deployed for acquisition and IMAG relay, with two URSA Mini Pro cameras in the pit on a track and dolly system, two more front of house, and one in an elevated position at the back of the arena with a Canon 96x 4K long lens, to capture the band’s triangular platform that flew out across the venue.

The LED Shed’s Luke Levitt says: “We would usually have one camera in the pit, but with so much fast action on stage, having two meant that we could catch all of the choreography. It’s our job as video directors to make sure everyone in the room can see what’s going on, and it’s imperative to have as much movement in the cameras as possible to reflect that action.”

2019 Concerts and Music Festivals Delivered with Blackmagic Design Posted: 20/12/2019
2019 Concerts and Music Festivals Delivered with Blackmagic Design

Blackmagic Design today announced that live production workflows, featuring its products for acquisition, control and delivery, have been used on some of this year's biggest music festivals and concert tours.

Artists and events included Little Mix, Billie Eilish, Elton John, Fall Out Boy and Andrea Bocelli, as well as Festival Beauregard, Rocking the Daisies, Aftershock Festival and Sweden Rock.

As broadcast and AV workflows continue to converge, more and more rental and staging companies are now standardizing their video offerings to festivals and touring artists based on hardware solutions from Blackmagic Design. Not only has the amount of video demanded by the entertainment market increased in 2019, so too has the amount of 4K production for IMAG.

Videosys Broadcast Provides Cloudbass with 4K Digital Transmitter Systems Posted: 25/11/2019
Videosys Broadcast Provides Cloudbass with 4K Digital Transmitter Systems

Videosys Broadcast, a leading supplier of quality camera control systems, RF links and camera backs to outside broadcast providers has announced that it has supplied two DTC 4K AEON-CC digital video transmitter systems to Cloudbass, a leading provider of broadcast solutions.

Specifically designed for high-quality wireless camera applications the AEON-CC uses DTC’s next-generation HEVC encoder technology facilitating UHD images. The system consists of one single 4K transmitter unit from DTC coupled with a built-in Videosys Camera Control system. The advantage of the AEON CC with Videosys’ camera control receiver built into the unit is a reduction in the equipment count and the complexities that come when managing 4K transmission and camera control simultaneously.

Cloudbass have been successfully using the systems on UHD, 3G and HD setups across a variety of live Outside Broadcasts, including both SKY Boxing and BT Speedway in UHD, on the British Touring Cars for ITV Sport, and The Lord Mayor’s Show for BBC Events.

A Choir Performance In Kuala Lumpur Achieved Crystal Clear Sound Thanks To DPA Microphones Posted: 12/11/2019
A Choir Performance In Kuala Lumpur Achieved Crystal Clear Sound Thanks To DPA Microphones

DPA Microphones’ recently launched 4097 CORE Supercardioid Choir Microphone was used to great effect in Kuala Lumpur when a choir of 12 men and women gathered in Independence Square to mark the 50th anniversary of the Department of Enforcement, Kuala Lumpur City Hall.

The event, entitled Hari Penguatkuasa DBKL, featured a parade in conjunction with the Golden Jubilee Celebration of Enforcement Day. It culminated in a live performance by the DBKL City Hall Choir who performed in front of an audience of approximately 2,000 people.

Mr Ajun Mubari, head of Malaysian audio rental company Mubari, says DPA’s 4097 CORE Supercardioid Choir Microphones were chosen to amplify the choir because their integrated shock mount and wind screen made them ideally suited to outdoor use.

“The 4097 microphone is awesome and very easy to work with,” he says. “We used one pair to cover the choir group and positioned them on either side of the choir who were standing in a semi-circle. The concert generated very high sound pressure levels – in excess of 90dB – but thanks to the 4097’s high isolation, the sound coming from the stage monitors (which were placed in front of the choir and behind the microphones) did not affect the available gain during the performance. This was a huge advantage as it meant we could capture the true sound of the choir without picking up any other sound.”

Marco Borsato at De Kuip Stadium 2019 Posted: 21/10/2019
Marco Borsato at De Kuip Stadium 2019

Dutch megastar Marco Borsato recently played a stream of sold out record breaking shows at De Kuip stadium in The Netherlands. The set included a huge scale canvas in the form of a 1,000 square-meter LED screen. To power the impressive visuals needed for this event, Michael Al-Far of MalfMedia and Jo Pauly of Visual Solutions turned to disguise servers to provide the power. Six disguise vx 4 and four disguise gx 2 media servers played key roles in the innovative production driving the video content and facilitating real-time IMAG grading of the live feed and the integration of Notch VFX and multicam AR in the massive main screen graphics.

Marco Borsato consistently has been one of the most successful and biggest grossing artists in the Netherlands in the last twenty years. For the 2019 shows, Marco specifically requested that the starting point for the De Kuip shows would be the level of last year’s Sportpalais concerts where the team first introduced cinematographic content. “As an artist and photographer Marco felt the time had come for him to be involved in every step of this exciting project, so we had creative freedom, but he had the final say. Together with Set and Lighting Designer Carlo Zaenen we created the content book in which we outlined the look and feel of every song.” says MalfMedia founder Michael Al-Far.

“Marco Borsato was adamant that the live feed would be treated to fit better in the cinematographic content,” Michael notes. As a result, MalfMedia approached Lewis Kyle White to apply his vast experience in IMAG grading for live shows on this project.

The outdoor show posed a number of challenges: starting in daylight and transitioning to night; a canvas that was by some measures the largest screen ever used for an arena rock concert; the IMAG live feed embedded into the content and not shown on side screens; and a set list of 37 songs that all needed to have the same standard of quality.

disguise solutions power innovative video for the Ariana Grande Sweetener World Tour Posted: 15/10/2019
disguise solutions power innovative video for Ariana Grande and rsquo;s Sweetener World Tour

Ariana Grande’s Sweetener World Tour is underway with disguise 4x4pro media servers and OmniCal projector-calibration engine playing a key role in facilitating the ethereal, galaxy-themed visuals on stage.

The tour supports the artist’s fourth and fifth studio albums, ‘sweetener’ and ‘thank u, next.’ It kicked off in March 2019 in New York and wraps in December 2019 in California, comprising three legs and a total of 102 dates in North America and Europe.

“The tour was designed to highlight the range and femininity of Ariana and create an ever-transforming space for her to perform her latest albums and give the audience an immersive experience to dive into as they witness Ariana's journey through her music,” says Loren Barton, Media Department Director with Lumentech. He has overseen the projection and media departments in support of many recent projects by Production and Lighting Designer LeRoy Bennett. Possible Productions produced the motion graphics for the show, which sees the stage brought to life with visuals of space during the song ‘NASA’, the visuals then turn the stage into a planet, a moon and a galaxy. From conversations with Ariana herself, Michael Figge and his team at Possible created a stage theme for each song that reinforced the choreography and lighting.
