DOREMIS NEW INNOVATIONS AT NAB 2011

Date: 28/04/2011
DOREMIS NEW INNOVATIONS AT NAB 2011 Doremi featured new products spanning the broadcast and digital cinema industries at NAB 2011. As a leading developer and manufacturer of servers and format converters Doremi continued its legacy in delivering quality and reliability through its product lines at affordable prices. Products displayed at NAB 2011 covered a wide array of solutions including 2K/4K video servers, 2D and 3D converters and generators, hardware and software mastering stations, digital cinema playback devices and alternative content solutions.

NEW Converters
Doremi presented two new video converters at NAB 2011. The H2S-30 and S2H-30 HDSDI / HDMI converters are set to join the established range of widely used pre-existing video converters.

Both the H2S-30 (HDMI-to-HDSDI) and the S2H-30 (HDSDI-to-HDMI) converters offer high quality processing, including scaling, framerate and colorspace conversion to provide output standards up to 2K resolution and 60 Hz frame rate to suit virtually any application. These converters are workflow tools that include flexible control via a GUI or with an IR remote. The on-board technologies feature 12-bit bicubic spatial interpolation to achieve seamless up/down scaling.

The H2S-30 provides HDMI-to-HDSDI video conversion. It includes single, Dual Link and 3G HDSDI outputs that are available up to 2K 4:4:4 resolutions. The S2H-30 converts HDSDI video to HDMI and supports up to 8 channels of embedded audio on HDSDI and HDMI as well as 2 channels of AES outputs.

DC-Post (pictured)
The DC-Post is a Doremi server designed for postproduction to provide 2K, 4K and 3D playback. Moreover, the DC-Post adds trick modes to allow precise, detailed viewing and fast access. The features include up to 200 percent variable speed replay forwards or backwards, jog, skip and chase modes while keeping picture, sound and subtitles in sync. It also includes high bit-rate playback with visually lossless 400Mb/s digital cinema packages (DCPs) and unpackaged JPEG 2000 playback. MPEG2 MXF file replay is provided. For repeatable performance DC-Post offers fixed latency playback and a genlocked output.

The DC-Post can render, adjust and edit SMPTE subtitles (2D and 3D) on the fly. It can also replay an individual 3D DCP ‘eye’ stream while rendering its subtitles. And with each unit including a CPL authoring tool, font customisation – colour selection, timing, fades, and Z position for 3D subtitles – is achieved.

Media input and output can be via a DVD-ROM, removable SATA, gigabit Ethernet or USB. 3TB of RAID5 storage is included. CineLister software provides easy scheduling and playlist administration. It can be networked to support playback from several theatres within post houses.

Cine Mastering solutions add more power

CineAsset adds FCP plug-in, and PRO version
Doremi’s established software-based CineAsset digital cinema mastering solution adds Final Cut Pro® compatibility. Offering new opportunities for content creators using Intel-based Macs, the new plug-in allows the creation of digital cinema packages (DCP) directly from Final Cut Pro®, saving valuable post-production time.

CineAsset converts popular video files such as QuickTime, AVI, JPEG and TIFF to unencrypted JPEG2000, MPEG2 or H.264 MXF-wrapped files, also known as Digital Cinema Packages (DCP). These are suitable for playback on digital cinema servers including Doremi’s DCP-2000, DCP-2K4 and DSV-J2 and the new ShowVault. It can also scale image size, perform XYZ' colorspace conversions and create 2D or 3D packages allowing exhibitors, advertisers and independent filmmakers to prepare their own content for exhibition.

CineAsset is available for download from the Doremi Cinema website (www.doremicinema.com). The CineAsset-Pro includes a speed pack to reduce processing time. For example, a 12-core Mac Pro or PC can convert frames to JPEG 2000 and create a DCP at 20 frames per second.

RAPID Mastering Stations
The RAPID Mastering Station is the next generation DCI JPEG2000 digital cinema mastering solution with extensive encoding parameter controls and support for bit rates up to 250 Mb/s. The RAPID combines all the tools for 2K and 4K image compression processing in one 4RU package. The high quality variable bit-rate (VBR) encoding produces the best possible image quality with significantly smaller files than those achieved with constant bit rate encoding – allowing reduced duplication time and distribution costs. The RAPID includes Doremi’s Dolphin hardware acceleration technology for super-fast JPEG2000 compression in a 64-bit Linux package complete with internal media storage.

The RAPID is available in two versions – RAPID and RAPID-2x. Both include fast quad-core CPUs with hardware acceleration from Doremi Dolphin boards. The standard RAPID has one Dolphin board and can encode 2K JPEG2000 at up to 12 f/s, whereas the RAPID-2x is equipped with two Dolphin boards for twice the compression speed (24 f/s for 2K). Both can include 4K compression at 2 or 4 f/s respectively. The platforms include RAID5 media storage of 3 or 5 TB respectively.

Cobalt and reg; Digital Targets Need for Multiple Video Feeds with openGear and reg; 9905 MPx Multi-Channel Processor

Cobalt® Digital, an industry-leading designer and manufacturer of award-winning edge devices for live video production and master control, and a founding partner in the openGear® initiative, has answered the need for handling and processing multiple video feeds with its 9905-MPx multi-channel processor. The 9905-MPx is a next-generation advanced scaler/frame openGear synchronizer developed in direct response to customer needs for a single module that supports four independent signal paths. The card was highlighted during a press briefing held virtually on October 6th and hosted by Suzana Brady, Cobalt’s SVP Worldwide Sales & Marketing, who noted that the 9905-MPx was developed in response to customer requests for increased density, unprecedented multi-input support, and enhanced flexibility. The event also featured presentations by Dr. Ciro Noronha, EVP of Engineering, and Ryan Wallenberg, VP of Engineering. The 9905-MPx, an audio/video processor for baseband digital signals, is capable of handling up to four independent 3G signals in a single, dense, cost-effective package that provides all common broadcast processing functions without any quality compromises. The card includes individual up/down/cross conversion scalers that are specifically designed for broadcast video formats, with full ARC control suitable for conversions to/from 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios. The multi-path design offers discrete AES and MADI audio embedding/routing/mixing/de-embedding to any of the four processing paths. Standard 3D LUT features and available color correction accommodate SDR and HDR processing for downstream HDR systems, on a per-channel basis. The card also supports per-channel logo insertion, as well as ancillary data insertion/extraction.
