New products at ISE 2010
Doremi is introducing new innovations and updates at ISE 2010.
Dimension 3D offers unique and highly versatile 3D format conversion from any standard 3D format to another, including frame rate changes. Standard video formats are supported from HD to 2K. Dimension 3D accepts both dual and single stream HDSDI as well as HDMI inputs and outputs.
The versatility of Dimension 3D means it fits virtually all stereoscopic workflows. It allows any 3D input stream format to be used with all types of display components currently available, including high-end projectors and the latest generation 3D-ready LCD displays. By encoding and decoding between two, left and right eye, streams and a single HDSDI stream Dimension 3D enables recording 3D content on standard '2D' HD tape and server technologies.
Doremi's CineAsset software-based digital cinema mastering solution converts popular video files to non-encrypted DCI packaged files for replay on digital cinema servers including Doremi's DCP-2000, DCP-2K4, DSV-J2 and the new ShowVault. The latest 4.4.2 version, presented at ISE 2010, adds new features including support for the ProRes 422 codec, conversion to XYZ colorspace, image scaling, Interop support and CPL generation.
CineAsset allows exhibitors to convert, transfer, schedule and playback 2D or 3D video clips such as local advertising, regional announcements, promotions or special interest content. The simple point-and-click user interface makes it easy to build clip databases. The software seamlessly handles the conversion and transfer of content into the server via Ethernet or USB. It also allows adding audio to the imported image sequences.
RAPID Mastering Station
The new RAPID Mastering Station is the next generation DCI-JPEG2000 digital cinema mastering solution with extensive encoding parameter controls and support for bit rates up to 250 Mb/s. It combines all the tools for 2K and 4K image compression processing in one package 4RU. The new high quality variable bit-rate (VBR) encoding produces the best possible image quality with significantly smaller files than those achieved with constant bit rate encoding – allowing reduced duplication time and distribution costs. RAPID includes a super-fast accelerated JPEG2000 compressor in a 64-bit Linux package complete with internal media storage.
RAPID is available in two versions – RAPID and RAPID2X. Both include fast quad-core CPUs with hardware acceleration from Doremi Dolphin boards. RAPID has one Dolphin board and can encode 2K JPEG2000 at up to 12 f/s. For RAPID2X with two Dolphin boards the 2K compression speed doubles 24 f/s Both can include 4K compression at 4 f/s. The platforms' include RAID5 media storage of 3 or 5 TB respectively.
Final Cut Pro Codec
At ISE 2010 Doremi is announcing a new Final Cut Pro codec. Delivered as a plug-in for FCP it will allow exporting media straight from the FCP timeline to produce a DCP for Digital Cinema. This creates a direct connection between the FCP editing and DCI mastering environments. The FCP codec is scheduled for availability as an optional upgrade in Q2 2010.
DSV-J2 Adds 2D & 3D Subtitling
The DSV-J2 JPEG2000 and MPEG MXF 3D playback server that supports all HD resolutions and frame rates including 2K and 4K 3D now adds 2D and 3D subtitles. The subtitling can be 2D or 3D, to suit the video, and adds to the audience experience in large screen venues such as concerts, theme parks, presentation and fixed installations. Installing the subtitle capability into the DSV-J2 only involves loading the software. This enables the subtitles to be generated within the video replay device so they can be of the highest technical quality. In addition it provides flexibility to change the 3D titles at any time or present different language versions without requiring new versions of the video with the appropriate titles burnt-in.
