London-based hire company ProCam Television has become the first company to offer Sonys ground-breaking new PDW-F800 camcorder for hire in the UK, thanks to a purchase financed through Fineline Media Finance. This purchase expands ProCams already large investment in XDCAM EX and HD422 products, all driven by customer demand.
Sony was promoting a 0% finance offer on the XDCAM range which was being supported by Fineline, says Andrew Black, Client Relations Manager at ProCam. Because Fineline really understands the broadcast business it made the whole process easier for all concerned. Great service, friendly staff and a continued commitment to our needs makes them a great choice when looking to procure leasing solutions.
Launched at NAB earlier this year, the PDW-F800 is the manufacturing giants latest addition to its popular tapeless XDCAM 422 range and has created a significant buzz in the industry since launch. This is mainly due to its abilities to shoot at 24p for a filmic look and also to be both over and undercranked.
The PDW F800 has a range of innovative features, most notably variable framerates, explains Andrew Black, client relations manager at ProCam. There is no doubt that tapeless is the way the whole industry is going, and having a variable framerate function gives the F800 a significant edge over other tapeless cameras in the market place. The camera is a cost-effective asset for high-end productions, it ticks all the right boxes.
Black reports that interest in the unit is coming from all sectors of the market, from corporate right up to the feature film end of the spectrum. Interest in tapeless as a whole only ever gains momentum there is no doubt that the landscape of production is changing, he says.
The camcorders, supplied by Visual Impact, arrive as ProCam has just moved to a purpose-built facility in the shadow of the old Battersea Power Station building. The new premises, are divided into two units with vehicles, crew and testing bays housed in one; and kit, bookings and technicians in the other. The two units cover 9500 and 3000 square feet respectively.
We can now offer off-street parking to clients, we have dedicated space for client meetings, and production meeting space can be offered to our clients this gives us an edge over our London competitors, says Black. New space has allowed us to re evaluate our check-in and check-out areas, which are now stringently controlled with a full-time dedicated manager in each area overseeing all equipment in and out of the building. These changes coupled with our ISO 9001 accreditation keep our focus solely on quality and exceeding client expectations.
Hire companies by their very nature have to keep up with the very latest technology, comments Fineline Sales Director, Gareth Wilding, but they also have to keep a close eye on their cash reserves in the current market, which is where we come in. We are delighted to be able to help such an innovative and customer-facing company be first to offer the PDW-F800 in the UK.
