Finalists Announced for Rory Peck Awards 2016 Posted: 12/10/2016

The Rory Peck Trust today announced the finalists of the Rory Peck Awards 2016, sponsored by Sony professional, which honour the work of freelance cameramen and camerawomen in news and current affairs. The line up includes new and returning finalists from eight countries, including women freelancers from Syria and the UK.

The Rory Peck Awards tonight honoured the work of freelance cameramen and camerawomen in news and current affairs at a packed event hosted by Sky News special correspondent Alex Crawford and Channel 4 News International Editor Lindsey Hilsum and attended by international journalists and editors at London's BFI Southbank. In a year that demonstrated in particularly stark terms the challenges faced by freelancers, the event showcased the best of their work and their importance to the international newsgathering community.

The Guild of Television Cameramen's  business skills roadshow is heading to Manchester. The 'How to Survive as a Freelance!' team will be at Big Shed Studios, Old Trafford, on Saturday September 25. Similar events have already been held in Uxbridge and Birmingham and were very well received. After the Uxbridge day, one attendee commented that this day alone was "worth the year's GTC subs".
