In the third of a 5 date European tour Blackmagic Design filled the Great Hall in Kensington, London on 1st November with both kit and seminar speakers including James Tonkin from Hangman Studios who has been travelling with the team to each of the venues.
“In recent weeks James has shot a film specifically for the tour seminars going from concept, to being shot, edited and graded in a short space of time. Whilst using much of his own kit including rigs, a Hawk-Woods power solution and a variety of different EF lenses, the Blackmagic Cinema Camera and DaVinci Resolve were at the heart of the production and post processes.” explains Simon Westland, Director of Sales EMEA at Blackmagic Design.
“The emphasis of the tour is not a slide show presentation but to bring creative individuals together with fellow creatives explaining and discussing their experiences using the Blackmagic Cinema Camera in the real world” continues Simon
“When James first looked at the Blackmagic Cinema Camera feature set he admits he was sceptical with the sensor size, the internal battery, the form factor and even wondered how he could use it to meet way that he shoots.
“Since these sceptical beginnings James has quickly started using this as his “A” camera on jobs and it’s now the camera he chooses to leave home with. A classic real world example that he explains is when on tour with Cold Play he has to run to catch them boarding the plane, shooting all the way, something that with traditionally sized kit just wouldn’t be feasible. The audience is treated to his full experience from where he started to where he is now and what it took to get there, making the point along the way to include feedback for Blackmagic as to what he’d like to see and where he thinks the technology will go in the future,” concludes Simon.
The tour has also seen Den Lennie talking about his work giving the visitors to this London event a fully rounded creative experience. Watch out for more of these as well as Rick Young doing some very practical theatre presentations at BVE North on 13th and 14th November in Manchester.
