Front Porch Digital is the global leader for solutions that migrate, manage, and market media content. Front Porch Digital's SAMMA(R) product line performs accelerated migration of media content from vulnerable analog videotape to secure and readily accessible digital storage. Protected by three U.S. patents, the company's DIVArchive(R) content storage management (CSM) solution creates a unified system of digital storage from ingest to archive that is distinguished for superior functionality, scalability, performance, and customer satisfaction. In DIVAsolo(R), Front Porch Digital has combined the two technologies to form a cost-effective, end-to-end system for preserving, managing, and repurposing media content. Front Porch Digital's Featured Products at FIAT/IFTA:
SAMMA(R) Clean -- Videotape Inspector and Cleaner With Metadata
This next-generation archive-quality videotape cleaner not only cleans valuable master tapes quickly, but also reports tape conditions as metadata. SAMMA(R) Clean key product functions include delicate, thorough cleaning of master tapes with one-tenth VTR playback tension; damage detection with two optical sensors -- one for tape width and one for reflectivity; graphical reporting with evaluation software that reports tape condition and cleanliness; reporting of each tape's cleaning status in XML format; and programming of auto mode for stand-alone, one-button operation. The system is available for U-matic, Betacam, and VHS cassette families.
The SAMMA Clean system conditions, inspects, and winds video cassette tapes of various formats, extending the life of tape by identifying physical defects, reconditioning the tape, and reducing the number of defects due to dirt deposits. SAMMA Clean also helps to identify potential problems, such as poor tape packing and tension control, that may occur in a recorder.
SAMMA(R) Solo -- Semi-Automated Videotape-to-Digital Migration System
Packaged in a compact, turnkey, single-stream solution, the SAMMA(R) Solo system makes it easy to convert even the largest videotape collections to digital files. With SAMMA Solo users can simply connect a videotape machine, set the preferred parameters in the migration software, insert a tape, and press "Go." SAMMA Solo watches over the entire operation automatically, monitoring the process and implementing specified quality standards frame by frame. It converts videotape in real time to as many as four simultaneous digital files including MXF-wrapped JPEG2000, MPEG-2, QuickTime(R), H.264 (MPEG-4), Flash(R), MPEG-1, AVC, Windows Media(R), and Real(R) Media.
Front Porch Digital has created the industry's first MXF-wrapped motion JPEG2000 real-time encoder that generates fully reversible compressed files. JPEG2000 provides uncompressed video quality at one-third the storage cost of uncompressed video -- a cost-effective and flexible alternative.
