In March and April 2020, German TV network ProSieben broadcast the second season of the TV show "The Masked Singer" (TMS), in which celebrities compete against one another with vocal performances, clad in imaginative full-body costumes. Whoever receives the fewest votes per show must remove the mask and disclose their identity. In the meantime, the jurors, Ruth Moschner and Rea Garvey, along with a guest judge each week, speculate over the course of six live shows as to the identity of who might be hiding behind the masks.

Lighting designer Arkin Atacan from atacan design turned to various lighting solutions from GLP to ensure that the lovingly designed costumes, comprising dragons, sloths, robots etc,. appeared to optimal effect on the television screen. Arkin, who mainly specialises in the TV sector—including "Pussy Terror TV", "ProSieben Winter Games", “Alle Gegen Einen (“All Against One") and many more—has been in charge of the Endemol Shine production since the first season last year.

The stage concept by Florian Wieder was key to his lighting design. "The set includes many straight lines and polygons," explains Arkin. "Wherever possible, I try to continue these design lines so that both the set and lighting function as a coherent unit, which in turn makes the overall picture look much more homogeneous and larger."

Gottschalks Big 80s Show travels back to the 80s with GLPs KNV system Posted: 28/11/2019
Gottschalks Big 80s Show travels back to the 80s with GLPs KNV system

The 80s … who doesn’t like remembering that decade? From a fashion perspective, it may not have sparkled, but musically the 80s undoubtedly had a lot to offer.

Thomas Gottschalk, who once again gathered a who's who of 80's cult stars at the TUI Arena in Hannover for Gottschalk's Big 80s Show, also clearly thinks that. Performances by Kim Wilde, Paul Young, Thomas Anders, Marc Almond and many more could be experienced on the set's four show stages, with the concert broadcast by ZDF.

Lighting cameraman / gaffer for the production was Michael Donecker. Frank Hofmann — better known as FH — from Scan Design Berlin was responsible for the show lighting design of a production that lasted for several hours. FH, who developed a penchant for lighting design early in life, today works predominantly for TV productions. He was clear from the outset exactly what requirements this special show would place on the production lighting design. "As the name implies, this was about the 80s and everything that made this time so exciting,” he said. “Therefore, I wanted to imitate the looks of those days but using modern technology."
