Glass to display innovation from Canon at IBC 2018

At IBC 2018, Canon Europe will showcase 4K/UHD HDR innovation – from glass to display – with its comprehensive line-up of unrivalled and sector-leading film and broadcast products, innovative solutions and next-generation concepts, designed to futureproof broadcasters and filmmakers alike.

Unrivaled optical quality over 60 years

As Canon marks the 60th anniversary of its high-quality broadcast lens business, visit the stand to discover how it has achieved a market-leading position in optical excellence and technical innovation. Visitors to the stand can understand a chronology of innovative products created over six decades such as the first BCTV zoom lens using artificial Fluoride (J10x10B) created in 1974, the first lens with Internal Focus created in 1982 and the world’s first large format lens with 1000mm tele end focal range (CN20x50) launched in 2014, which to date, remains unbeaten.

Fast forward to 2018 and Canon is once again demonstrating its lens innovation and optical excellence with a new medium, telephoto field box lens, the UJ66x9B, and three ENG/EFP broadcast lenses – the CJ24ex7.5B, CJ18ex7.6B and CJ14ex4.3B. Launched under a completely new lens category, UHDgc, the models prioritise operability and compatibility at an affordable price point.

Continuous innovation and new accolades

Canon will also be highlighting industry-leading 4K HDR reference monitors – the 12G-SDI capable DP-V2421 and DP-V1711 – which are ideal for versatile applications in 4K HDR production on set, in editorial, and in finishing. The reference displays form part of a range recently recognised by the Hollywood Professional Association’s (HPA) Engineering Excellence Awards for Canon's technical and creative ingenuity.

Following its March launch, the new EOS C700 FF - a flagship primary production camera used by cinematographer Nancy Schreiber alongside director Nigel Dick in, 'A Dishful of Dollars' - will also feature on the stand this year. Expanding the high-end Cinema EOS line-up, the C700 FF features a newly developed, next generation Canon full frame 38.1 mm x 20.1mm CMOS sensor and can record up to 5.9K, delivering ultimate creative freedom and quality.

Industry leading support

Canon Europe also supported Ambassador Nicolai Brix, one of Denmark's most prolific videographers, capture his latest documentary film 'Detour' with its EOS C200 camera. Nicolai will be on the Canon Europe stand to discuss his experiences using the EOS C200 and how Canon’s high-quality workflow enabled him to deliver an excellently crafted film.

Kieran Magee, Director of Professional Imaging, Canon Europe comments: “As the requirements and standards of the media industry evolve, geared towards a UHD HDR generation, and the format requirements of the broadcast industry become increasingly complex, Canon’s world-renowned imaging tools, from glass to display, are designed for now and for the future. Visitors to our stand at IBC will see that, through continuous innovation and following in-depth market research, our optically excellent products provide the high-quality, ease-of-use and versatility that is pivotal in ensuring all users are able to achieve their unique vision efficiently."
