Visual Data Media Services invests and pound;250k in State-of-the-Art Cinema and Mastering facilities
|
Posted: 14/11/2019
|
Visual Data Media Services, the leading provider of digital supply chain services to global content owners and distributors, has announced the opening of a cutting-edge digital cinema at its leading facility in West London, UK.
The new cinema is fully 4K and Dolby Atmos capable and comprises a 10-seat theatre built around a NEC 4 projector and fed by a Doremi digital cinema server. A Dolby Atmos CP950 sound processor is linked to 28x JBL speakers and 14x 1KW Crown amplifiers.
Of particular interest is the 4-meter-wide acoustically transparent woven fabric screen. This is designed to Dolby and THX standards, and allows users to hear the cinema audio without the distraction of the perforations that are typically required to allow the sound from speakers mounted behind the screen to travel into the auditorium.
“This is the final time that many of our clients will see their film before it is distributed to the cinema network and it’s important that they have no visual distractions and are also assured that they’re reviewing their content in a high-end and fully calibrated environment,” explains David Margolis, Director of Digital Cinema at Visual Data Media Services. |

Bannister Lake Delivers Cross-Platform and Innovative Graphic Solutions for Canadian Federal Election Coverage
|
Posted: 01/11/2019
|
Bannister Lake played an essential role in providing Canadian broadcast and online audiences with live election results during the Oct. 21 national election. In addition to providing the editorial tools to producers, Bannister Lake enabled decision desks and graphic operators to identify key races, declare winners, and organize graphic playlists. The company also devised and implemented on-set touchscreen mapping widgets and social-media solutions.
This marks the 18th time Corus Entertainment's Global Television Network has used Bannister Lake solutions to drive election coverage. Elector software was used to aggregate and manage election results and populate graphics that were rendered by four different engines: HTML5, Avid/Orad, Ross XPression, and Vizrt. This provided Global Television with multiple options to visualize election results and present them in exciting new ways. Graphics appeared as full frame, as part of the broadcast's unique video wall, as regional L-bars, as augmented reality elements, and as online winner cards that were tweeted out.
The broadcast's touch-enabled HTML5-based widgets proved to be a distinctive storytelling device. The solution allowed hosts to blend real-time data with demographics information on electoral district maps and walk viewers through trends and analysis. Since the solution was built entirely in HTML5, editorial and cosmetic changes could be executed quickly without reliance on other hardware or software systems.
"Having Bannister Lake data available on various endpoints meant we had maximum flexibility to tell the election night story," said Gerry Belec, director news technology and operations, Global News. "Once again Bannister Lake ensured that both our editorial and production teams had the data and the tools to execute a great election night broadcast." |

CREATIVE CITIES CONVENTION GOES GLOBAL IN 2020
|
Posted: 25/10/2019
|
After two successful years, the Creative Cities Convention (CCC) will scale up its ambitions in year three by looking at the global growth of production outside London when it convenes in Glasgow on 23 – 24 April 2020.
As a creative media event designed specifically for content producers working across the country, the convention visits a different UK city each year. Following a fiercely competitive ‘Big City Challenge’ bid process, the City of Glasgow will welcome delegates to its Royal Concert Hall.
With one of the biggest production sectors outside London, Glasgow is a popular choice. For the third year running, top broadcaster and Newsnight journalist Kirsty Wark will host, with household names Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer opening the conference. “I’m delighted that Phil and I will be speaking at the Creative Cities Convention in Glasgow next April,” Allsopp said. “The conference is rapidly becoming the go to event for anyone producing content outside of London. We are proud to add our voices to the many key players who will be attending next year.” |

Record numbers of exhibitors at KitPlus Show MediaCityUK
|
Posted: 25/10/2019
|
KitPlus Show, MediaCityUK, Manchester 5 November: A record number of exhibitors, ready to demonstrate leading products, services, and technologies from more than 100 brands – many for the first time - will be on hand at the ninth annual KitPlus Show MediaCityUK.
Simon Tillyer, KitPlus Show says, “Having recognised that people are increasingly less able or willing to travel long distances to shows, we decided a long time ago to take KitPlus Show to regional media hubs such as Glasgow, Bristol and Manchester. The concept is to give visitors the opportunity to see the very latest in new kit without having to travel far in a friendly, relaxed environment, and it doesn’t cost a thing.
“As well as getting hands on with new kit and speaking directly with manufacturers, there are workshops, training sessions and seminars throughout the day together with excellent networking opportunities. The emphasis is on creating quality time, and the exchange of quality information, both of which are far more readily available at these regional shows than during the crush of major trade shows.”
These free-to-attend events host many of the top names in the business, including Editshare, Blackmagic Design, Canon, JVC, NewTek, Panasonic, and many more. |

Bannister Lakes Elector Software Will Keep Canadians Informed for Upcoming Election Day Coverage
|
Posted: 14/10/2019
|
Canadians go to the polls on Oct. 21 and once again Bannister Lake is providing two national broadcasters with complete election management solutions. Bannister Lake clients Global Television and CPAC, the Cable Public Affairs Channel (Canada's version of C-Span), will use the company's Elector software to produce election night coverage. Elector allows producers to instantly see and track real-time results, take advantage of advanced filtering to zero in on specific races, make race calls, and quickly and accurately create graphic playlists for broadcast.
Elector features a multi-user, web-based user interface, making the product accessible to production teams anywhere. Producers and analysts can spot voting trends and translate those trends into powerful graphic presentations. Graphics can then be dragged, dropped, and organized into playlists in preparation for broadcast. Elector's Restful API can be used to strategically distribute real-time data content to online destinations, widgets, mobile devices, and augmented reality and virtual reality systems.
Elector is an election results solution engineered and designed exclusively for Canadian elections; however, Bannister Lake's popular Chameleon data management product includes an election module that supports U.S. and any other election process. Like Elector, Chameleon election data can feed multiple broadcast graphic engines, online, mobile, and other broadcast visualization systems. Bannister Lake is expanding its election offerings with data-driven web widgets that allow online users to customize data to specific electoral districts to access local information and analysis.
