GTC announces this years Television Cameramans Award (TiCA) winner, to be presented at the GTC Awards Day for members and invited guests Posted: 05/05/2017

The GTC Council are very pleased to announce that this years TiCA award is being presented to Paul Berriff OBE. The TiCA (Television Cameraman's Award) is awarded to an individual who, in the opinion of the Council, has furthered the cause of the GTC by fostering and improving the art and craft of the professional television cameraman over many years.

Cameraman Dave Stanford presented with Honorary Membership of the GTC Posted: 03/08/2012
When they learnt of SkyF1 cameraman Dave Stanford's selfless action in helping to rescue one of the Williams Formula One mechanics from the pit garage fire after the 2012 Spanish Grand Prix, the GTC Council decided that he should be given an award in recognition of his actions.

Keith Massey appointed Chair of the Guild of Television Cameramen Posted: 11/07/2012
The Guild of Television Cameramen announces the election of Keith Massey as Chair. Recipient of a prestigious Royal Television Society Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010, he is a highly experienced and well-respected cameraman based in Yorkshire. He has accepted the post for a two-year tenure, succeeding Graeme McAlpine who has led the GTC during an active period of expansion. Keith was elected at a meeting of the GTC Council in Pinewood Studios on Sunday 1 July, at which two Co-Vice Chairs, Dudley Darby and James Fulcher, were also appointed.

GTC announces 40th anniversary celebration Posted: 11/01/2012

The GTC will this year celebrate its 40th anniversary in the same city and the same month as its foundation. In May 1972, the inaugural meeting of what would become the Guild of Television Cameramen was held at the Birmingham studios of Associated Television.

Professional television cameramen express concern over closure of their Vimeo accounts Posted: 24/03/2011
Guild of Television Cameramen members recently held an open-forum debate on a number of issues, including the steady decline in programme technical standards, from shooting material through to poor sound, lighting and editing.
 
In a prolonged (173 posts) on-line debate about the standards advocated in a BBC instructional video, a comment was made about the poor technical quality of a personal video on the Vimeo website uploaded by Martha Lane Fox, the UK government digital champion (see http://www.vimeo.com/13327809).

GTC announces 2010 award winners at BFI Posted: 04/10/2010
The 37th annual Guild of Television Cameramen Awards event was held at the British Film Institute, London, on September 28. The ceremony celebrated not only the high standards achieved by the award winners during the past year, but also the contribution made by all cameramen to advancing and enhancing their craft.
 
GTC President Dick Hibberd introduced two keynote speakers, Patrick Younge (Chief Creative Officer of BBC Vision Productions) and BBC presenter Nick Knowles.
 
Patrick Younge thanked the cameramen in the audience on behalf of all production staff at the BBC for their dedication: "I salute your perseverance and your craft. What connects all of us is our common commitment to making outstanding programmes. The intention of the BBC is to spend 80p of every £1 of the licence fee on content and ensure that the audience is entertained".

Bill Vinten wins the Guilds TiCA Award for Excellence 2010 Posted: 30/09/2010
Bill Vinten, youngest son of the founder of Vinten®, was presented with the highest honour at last night's Guild of Television Cameramen Awards. The ceremony, held at the prestigious BFI Southbank in London, saw 90 year old Bill Vinten collect the Guild's TiCA Award for his lifetime contribution to fostering and improving the art and craft of the professional television cameraman.

 
Bill Vinten dedicated his award to all of the Vinten employees for their hard work over the years, and their contribution to the company's success. The award marks a momentous year for Vinten as the company recently celebrated its 100 year anniversary, an unprecedented achievement in the film and television industry.

GTC HOW TO SURVIVE AS A FREELANCE TEAM HEADS FOR MANCHESTER Posted: 06/09/2010
The Guild of Television Cameramen's  business skills roadshow is heading to Manchester. The 'How to Survive as a Freelance!' team will be at Big Shed Studios, Old Trafford, on Saturday September 25. Similar events have already been held in Uxbridge and Birmingham and were very well received. After the Uxbridge day, one attendee commented that this day alone was "worth the year's GTC subs".
