Stacking Key to Survival in Overcrowded OTT Market

Pre-Covid 19, competition within the over-the-top (OTT) market had already been intensifying, with the launch of a plethora of new platforms offering more choice than ever before. During lockdown, it’s no surprise either that consumers’ appetite for content has been stimulated but not satiated: time spent in video streaming apps globally during the peak week of March and April 2020 grew 30% compared to the weekly average time spent in January 2020.

Imagen Extends its Relationship with PA Media to Enhance the News Agencys Video Offering Posted: 01/04/2020
Imagen Extends its Relationship with PA Media to Enhance the News Agencys Video Offering

Imagen, the intuitive video management platform, has extended their long-term relationship with PA Media (PA), the national news agency for the UK & Ireland and a leading multimedia content and services provider, to upgrade and enhance its video portal.

An Imagen customer since 2014, PA recently called on Imagen to update the look of its customer-facing portal to reflect the company’s new branding and improve its functionality.

The upgraded portal now features a new partner area, allowing PA to host and label third party content alongside the news agency’s own editorial output. Enhanced search functionality and metadata display enable PA’s customers to surface relevant content from the vast catalogue of newsroom-ready, customer-ready and partner content, and in doing so, increase its speed to market.

Improved analytics functions from Imagen also allow the agency to track how customers are accessing and using content from the video portal by surfacing search records and user journeys.

In addition, PA has engaged Imagen’s content licensing business – Screenocean – to represent its video content. The new licensing agreement will enable the agency to find even more new audiences for its video content and, in turn, increase its revenue streams.

1 in 3 consumers prioritise content on demand Posted: 05/03/2020
1 in 3 consumers prioritise content on demand

Over a quarter (29%) of UK consumers cite being able to watch content on demand, including the ability to download it to watch at a later date, as their main priority when subscribing to a streaming platform, according to Imagen.

Research conducted on behalf of the leading SaaS video management platform business also found that further enticements for consumers when subscribing to streaming platforms now include the ability to access new original content (27%) and that they are cheaper than a TV package (22%).

Looking to the future, more than a quarter (27%) of consumers think that traditional TV broadcasters will adopt services similar to those offered by streaming providers, while 25% think the two will simply combine services, which is evidenced by the likes of the Sky and Netflix partnership. Conversely, almost a quarter (24%) of consumers believe that traditional TV will eventually cease to exist, compared to only 5% who believe streaming services could suffer the same fate.

International Tennis Federation Selects Imagen to Manage Archive of 15,000 Assets

Imagen, the leading SaaS video management platform business, has been chosen by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), the world governing body of tennis, to manage and distribute its extensive content archive of 15,000 assets dating back to the 1940s from the Davis Cup and Fed Cup competitions.

Following a project in which the ITF digitised its content catalogue, which previously existed only in physical copies across multiple formats, including VHS, betacam, SD and HD tapes and 2K film, the ITF engaged Imagen to store, manage and share its content in order to generate more value from its assets and actively commercialise content. The Imagen content portal provides the ITF’s internal teams with instant access to high-resolution video from its entire archive.

Kelly Fairweather, ITF Chief Operating Officer said: “Imagen was the clear market leader in this field and offered a wealth of expertise and knowledge when it came to getting this project underway. Imagen listened to what we aspired to achieve with this project and came up with a bespoke solution that we felt was ideal and has allowed us to exploit the maximum benefit from our content.”

Grupo Imagen Prepares for Major National Network Expansion with EditShare Posted: 18/01/2018
Grupo Imagen Prepares for Major National Network Expansion with EditShare

EditShare, a technology leader in intelligent shared storage and media management solutions, announced that Mexico-based media conglomerate Grupo Imagen is implementing EditShare XStream EFS 450 scale out production storage, XStream EFS 40NL parking storage, and Flow media asset management to support content automation and fast turn-around workflows. Grupo Imagen was recently awarded a nationwide broadcast television license that expands its current broadcast network to over 190 transmission sites with its multiplex signal across the Mexican national territory. The opportunity requires the broadcaster to build out a network of brick and mortar stations in some of the major cities across Mexico, and thus reinforce its Mexico City hub with an infrastructure that can support connected workflows. The installation of EditShare will aid in the production of the broadcasters telenovelas and news packages; providing a tiered storage environment for fast online production and parking storage with automation that moves media across post production systems and third-party storage platforms, optimizing collaboration and media sharing across workgroups.
