Imedia8 leads immersive VR experience for Highclere Castle

Imedia8, the award-winning digital solutions developer, today announced its latest collaboration with Highclere Castle; Grade I listed country house and filming location of The real Downton Abbey. 'Friends of Highclere' is the latest development in innovative technology, where Imedia8 produced the content, including drone footage, developed the website, and the VR video management system (VRMS).

‘Friends of Highclere’ presents a 2D and 3D experience showing Lord and Lady Carnarvon exploring previously unseen and behind-the-scenes rooms and locations inside the castle and around the estate. The 3D films were all created using cutting edge technology which allows unbelievable clarity and a 360 degree experience as if you were there in person, but with the advantage of it being available to view at your own convenience.

The key benefit of the Imedia8 VRMS allows users to easily manage their own content if desired. Any VR video files can simply be ingested, processed and published to a website with no technical skills required. Imedia8’s goal is to allow VR content to be made more widely available through the deployment of such a straightforward platform that can be integrated into any new or existing website.

Lady Carnarvon said, “I wanted to reach out to all our friends, especially to those who are still experiencing difficulty in travelling, to share our life at Highclere. We hope that Friends of Highclere Castle will offer our supporters a platform of entertainment and immense enjoyment."

Guy Parry-Williams, Founder, Imedia8, commented, “Imedia8 is thrilled to bring Highclere Castle to life so that users and fans of The real Downton Abbey globally can experience the magnificence of the country house from the comfort of their own homes. Imedia8’s hybrid approach to VR content delivery ensures that users on non-VR devices can still enjoy the exclusive 360-degree video content and, on this project, our innovative technology meant that we could support Highclere to bring the vision of Lady Carnarvon to life.”
