Five OB trucks were used to broadcast the festivities, along with just under 100 cameras, ten uplink trucks and 350 employees. UBF assures communications with RTS equipment for concerts by Coldplay, Andrea Bocelli and Andr and copy; Rieu

Among the rock and classical highlights of the 2012 concert season were the sell-out appearances of Coldplay in the Stade de France in Paris, Andrea Bocelli in the open air in Portofino (Italy), and Andr© Rieu in Maastricht. Three superstars from quite different musical traditions but with one thing in common: all three relied on the Hilversum-based broadcast service provider United Broadcast Facilities (UBF) for the recording of their acclaimed performances. And with good reason, because all three were planning to release DVDs of the concerts in question. Only state-of-the-art quality, then, would suffice.

RTS secures communications for the broadcasting of Eredivisie soccer from the Netherlands Posted: 29/11/2012
RTS secures communications for the broadcasting of Eredivisie soccer from the Netherlands

UEFA ranks Hollands Eredivisie (Honorary Division) among the ten finest football leagues in Europe. Founded in 1956, the Eredivisie comprises 18 teams who play 34 matches each in the course of the season in their quest for the league title.

Of the nine Eredivisie matches played each week, the Dutch service provider United has for the last 15 years been charged with broadcasting seven. To guarantee flawless transmission quality, United devotes a lavish outlay in human and technical resources to its coverage of these matches, with up to 15 employees and ten cameras involved each time. Nonetheless, according to Bolke Burnaby Lautier, Manager Operations Sports and Events with United, each new production proves as demanding and nerve-racking as the first. Tight schedules pose a constant challenge: When we arrive at the stadium on match day, we have to set up our equipment immediately. A 15-minute test follows, during which every item of equipment must be functioning flawlessly as by then the start of the broadcast is imminent and little time remains to put things right especially since, as well as our own staff, other studios along with their respective presenters all have to be integrated into the network.

Bolshoi Theatre installs greatest RTS stage-manager system worldwide Posted: 05/10/2012
Bolshoi Theatre installs greatest RTS stage-manager system worldwide

Moscows Bolshoi Theatre is not only the best-known and largest venue for operatic and ballet productions in Russia, but is numbered also among the most important and celebrated theatres in the world. In fact, since the opening in 1780 of what was initially the Petrovka Theatre, it has been in the eyes of ballet lovers the world over the very symbol of Russian culture. In over 230 years of existence, its survived wars, revolutions and even catastrophic fires. And now, after a six-year programme of renovation, the Bolshoi Theatre is more imposing than ever.

As well as renovation and construction work, the theatre management decided to invest heavily in state-of-the-art communications equipment. The nerve centre is the largest RTS professional intercom system for stage management worldwide with six interconnected individual stage-manager systems, and here they were prepared to accept no compromises. For this reason, the Hamburg-based specialist Amptown System Company was charged with the installation. The new intercom system had, above all, to guarantee one thing, explains Stefan Thomsen, Amptown System Companys specialist in communications and stage-management systems, that all those involved in a production would be able to exchange information with each other at any time without any problem. Furthermore, the system however complex in its implementation had to be simplicity itself to use; and not only to use, but also to configure. To ensure, therefore, that the ideal solution to the Bolshois needs was found, two further teams of specialists the Russian company TDM and ProVideo of Berlin were called in to participate with Amptowns and the theatres own technicians in the final decision. The result? The RTS intercom matrix combined with an RTS two-wire party-line intercom system that now forms the core of all communications within the Bolshoi Theatre.

Deep-sea diving is one of the most hazardous of occupations, with decompression sickness and oxygen toxicity a constant menace. Descents to depths down to 500 metres pose a massive challenge not only to divers and their equipment but also to their support teams: the crews of the dive support vessels that accompany every dive.

With a massive new program of investment in its Nile TV International channel, which first went on air in 1994, Egyptian state television has prepared the way for the country's first-ever broadcasts in HD quality. As part of the program, two of the channel's studios have been completely redesigned and reequipped. Work on the project, now in its practice-oriented test phase, was completed in 2010.
