Leeds Trinity University chooses Quicklink TX for Yorkshire Voice

Leeds Trinity University, a university renowned for teaching excellence in television and radio, have adopted the Quicklink TX to introduce guests into their Yorkshire Voice news show.

The Yorkshire Voice is a local live news show produced by Journalism students at Leeds Trinity University which is broadcast live across the University’s social media platforms and website.

At the University’s studio, the Quicklink TX is set up next to the vision mixer station. A member of the production team is assigned to contacting and managing the guest contributors using the Quicklink and Skype TX Controller software. The SDI output from the Quicklink TX is fed into a vision mixer and then into the studio screen and live output.

“The Quicklink TX has enabled our Journalism students to introduce live remote contributors without the need for them to always come to the studio itself for a short interview. The solution allows our BJTC MA Journalism students to replicate remote live feeds as seen on professional broadcast productions.” Mark Willett, Senior Media Technician at Leeds Trinity University.

Mark continues “The Quicklink TX not only supplements our remote live streaming location camera but enables Journalism students in the field using a phone with Skype to provide live remote coverage back to our gallery”.

The Quicklink TX, designed in partnership with Microsoft, is a video call management system. It is a transceiver that enables professional reception and transmission of multiple Skype video calls through SDI inputs/outputs and HDMI interface.

Leeds Trinity University are now planning to use the Quicklink TX as part of their end-of-year Media Program Level Assessment, as well as to continue using as part of their Yorkshire Voice feature. The University also plan to integrate the Quicklink TX for their Media courses, allowing students to incorporate remote contributors into their live productions including magazine, quiz, music and culture shows.
