NEP Group Uses TSL Products MPA1-MIX MADI-V Audio Monitoring Units in New OB Trucks Posted: 07/04/2020
NEP Group Uses TSL Products and rsquo; MPA1-MIX MADI-V Audio Monitoring Units in New OB Trucks

NEP Group is the leading worldwide outsourced technical production partner to premier content producers of live sports and entertainment throughout the world. As a long-standing customer of TSL Products, NEP Group has relied on the company’s MPA1 units as their audio monitoring solution of choice for live broadcasts. When TSL introduced its new MPA1 V Series audio monitor, designed to directly address the needs of those in live production, NEP was the first to realise the benefits and place its order. NEP Group integrates TSL’s MPA1-MIX MADI-V audio monitor as a cost-effective solution to improve operator workflow within its fleet of OB trucks.

“We are always looking for ways to enhance the workflow of operators within our OB trucks,” says Michael Naugle, design engineer for NEP’s U.S. Broadcast Services team. “The newly designed TSL MPA1-MIX MADI-V units feature an extremely intuitive layout. The left to right ascending order of the knobs is very user-friendly as the operator can easily find the channel they need, without having to look directly at the panel. The ‘V’ pattern also has a nice aesthetic look to it.”

Since integrating the new TSL MPA1-MIX MADI-V units, Naugle has received positive feedback from the operators. “Operator feedback has been great – they enjoy the look of the new V Series, as well as the ease of use that comes with having the updated control layout. Also, the sound quality is amazing, which we have come to expect from all TSL solutions.”

NEP Group currently has the MPA1-MIX MADI-V units installed in two of its OB trucks and Naugle plans to continue relying on the units for projects going forward. “In addition to the two trucks that currently have the updated TSL MPA1 V units, we are building several other trucks in the U.S. this year that will also be equipped with the MPA1-MIX MADI-V. Also, in our newer IP trucks, we have been installing the TSL PAM2-IP units, which are extremely useful tools when working with audio in an IP infrastructure.”

Research Reveals Huge Opportunity For Live Sports Streaming If Fans Can Get Access To The Right Leagues And Teams

Sports fans are willing to pay more for streaming live sports, but only if it provides better access to the sports teams and leagues they are interested in. These are some of the key findings of an international survey, commissioned by Verizon Media, into what fans want from services that let them stream live sports.

The research was conducted amongst 5,000 sports fans in the US, UK, France, Germany and Holland* and found that the opportunity for content providers streaming live sports is huge, as long as they offer greater personalization, better viewing options and a different advertising experience better suited to a streaming environment.

Grass Valley Solutions Underpin NEP Europe and rsquo;s Expanded IP Production Capability for a Summer of Sport

Gearing up for a bumper year of premier live sporting events, NEP Europe has bolstered its production capability with a host of Grass Valley live IP production solutions. NEP is growing its capabilities across its OB and flypacks fleet, strengthening its position as one of the world’s leading outsourced technical production partners to premier producers of live sports and entertainment.

At the core of the expansion are nearly 60 new Grass Valley LDX 86N cameras. The new cameras feature Grass Valley’s built-in DirectIP capability which was developed in conjunction with NEP. This unique technology allows NEP to send only the camera heads to the given location, while all other control for the cameras and the production can take place at an off-site location. With this latest purchase, NEP Europe now has over 500 native 4K Grass Valley LDX 86N cameras in its portfolio.

Paul Henriksen, NEP Europe’s president, said: “2020 is set to be a huge year for live sporting and entertainment events around the world. We’re excited about the opportunity to help clients deliver innovative live productions that bring consumers closer to the action, wherever they are and on any device. Drawing on our long-established relationship with Grass Valley, and the close collaboration with its R&D team, allows us to leverage best-in-class solutions that are a perfect fit. Grass Valley understands our business model and is unrivaled when it comes to delivering the support that we, and our clients, demand.”

NEP Europe also purchased 30 RefleX SuperXpander Kit lens adapters, which convert handheld cameras into a studio/field production system, plus a number of LDX C86N compact cameras and several grass valley switchers including the 6 M/E Kahuna 9600 with Maverik control panel and the Kula 3 M/E switcher. The switchers feature FormatFusion technology, innovative, built-in format conversion that seamlessly handles multiformat operations. The wider rollout of Grass Valley’s K-Frame, Kahuna and Kula switchers across NEP’s fleet allows for standardized workflows that ensure greater efficiency across the group.

Mark Hilton, Grass Valley’s vice president of live production, commented: “We’re delighted to be working with NEP once again and proud to be the clear choice when it comes to supplying live IP production solutions. As NEP readies itself for a demanding year of exciting sports and live content, we very much look forward to working alongside the company in the thick of the action.”

Swiss Pay TV Network Expands Live Sports Broadcasting with Blackmagic Design Posted: 29/10/2019
Swiss Pay TV Network Expands Live Sports Broadcasting with Blackmagic Design

Blackmagic Design today announced that Teleclub, Switzerland’s leading Pay TV network, has implemented an UltraHD video playout system, built around a Blackmagic Design 12G infrastructure, to support an increased volume of linear and pay per view (PPV) live sports channels.

The network recently expanded its output to offer more than 83 channels, including eight in Ultra HD, broadcasting in German, French and Italian, and covering a wide range of sports including top flight European and national football leagues, ice hockey and others via its IPTV platform.

“We needed to double Teleclub’s capacity to feed additional HD and UHD PPV channels, studio production facilities, as well as additional commentary and graphics elements,” explains Remo Val, system and software engineer, Teleclub. “When we considered our UltraHD requirements, it was clear that a single link 12G-SDI network would ensure we had enough capacity in our server rooms and keep cabling and signal distribution hubs as streamlined as possible.”

18 ATEM 4 M/E Broadcast Studio 4K have been installed, with each one serving two of the HD or UltraHD channels, with a separate M/E attributed to each channel. Each switcher is paired with a video/CG server, developed inhouse at Teleclub using DeckLink Quad 2 capture cards and Caspar CG, for live video playout.
