MEDIAPRO Selects Tedial for Corporate MAM Implementation

Tedial, the leading independent MAM technology solutions specialist, has been selected by MEDIAPRO, a leader in the European audiovisual sector, to provide its Corporate MAM system for internal use within the MEDIAPRO Group of companies worldwide. System deployment is scheduled to begin in September 2019.

The solution, a multisite MAM, will provide several nodes that will be distributed worldwide to MEDIAPRO Group’s companies including Spain, LATAM, North America, France, and more. The solution will enable MEDIAPRO operators to find and access content distributed within each site facilitating the exploitation and distribution of media content.

The first site to become part of the corporate MAM is Globomedia, one of the first content producers in Europe, based in Madrid. Globomedia will digitize all its content, which will be allocated in the Tedial MAM. This site will be followed by the other MEDIAPRO Group of companies worldwide.

Jordi Pañella CEO of UNITECNIC, the systems integration company of MEDIAPRO says, “We selected Tedial’s Corporate MAM solution as it’s the best fit for our global plans moving forward. By providing multisite MAM our operators across the world can very easily share content between sites enabling a fully integrated production approach.”

Founded in 1994 in Barcelona, the company is involved in movie and television production as well as media (beIN Sports), with operations worldwide through its 58 offices distributed across 36 countries on 4 continents.

GB Labs, innovators of powerful and intelligent media storage solutions for the media and entertainment industries, today confirmed that the specialist video production company, Kingdom Creative Studios, has installed GB Labs’ FastNAS F-16 Nitro storage system.

Kingdom Creative founder and Managing Director, Simon Harrison, said, “Our talented in-house team works closely with major brands¬ - primarily in automotive but rapidly expanding into new markets - to deliver powerful video content tailored to engage audiences on every platform, from television to social media.

“However, our expansion, coupled with the advent of 4K, multi-cam shoots and the increasing demand for rapid turnaround, meant that we reached the practical limits of what our existing storage system could do. We had to find a better way to manage and operate storage.”

For the majority of its existence, Kingdom Creative had relied on what many still rely on today, i.e., storing video content on individual drives, backing them up, and walking them up and down corridors or transferring them via couriers.

“As we began taking on larger and more complicated projects,” said Kingdom Creative Head of Creative Technology Ben Treston, “especially when collaboration between editors became important, it turned out that the old methods were no longer viable. Today, we have multiple editors working on many pieces of content from the same project. You can’t share individual hard drives and meet today’s expectations for speed and reliability in those types of scenarios.”

The FastNAS F-16 Nitro system meets those objectives for speed, reliability and value in shared storage. Unlike other NAS products on the market, FastNAS is purpose built to sustain heavy workloads and provide stable and reliable performance, based on best of breed technology exclusively developed in-house, and is comprised of a high-performance unit with unique hybrid disk technology, powered by GB Labs’ proprietary CORE.3 OS.

Broadpeak®, a leading provider of content delivery network (CDN) and video streaming solutions for content providers and pay-TV operators worldwide, today announced that it has completed the world's first unified packaging and encryption of DASH and HLS formats. Using the latest version of its BkS350 origin packager, Broadpeak successfully delivered DASH and HLS video fragments using the same chunks (encrypted with CBCS) and container (CMAF) for both protocols, a unique capability that will optimize storage costs for OTT service providers.

Until CMAF was developed, HLS and DASH needed to be delivered in different containers. In addition, Apple FairPlay and Google Widevine used different encryption schemes (i.e., CBCS and CTR), creating the need for a different chunk for each streaming format (i.e., HLS and DASH) even with the new CMAF container. Now that Widevine allows CBCS encryption, it is possible to encrypt one CMAF fragment for both HLS and DASH formats. Broadpeak's BkS350 origin packager is the first solution to offer this capability.

VP2 virtualized mixing system

Calrec’s VP2 virtualized mixing system has no physical control surface and utilisesCalrec’s Assist software for setup and control. VP2’s 4U core comes in three DSP sizes; 128, 180 and 240 input channels, and incorporates Calrec’s powerful Hydra2 networking solution. As with all Hydra2 products this can be controlled by a station automation system.

VP2 enables a station to reap many of the benefits of using a Calrec console, but without a physical control surface. Calrec’s Assist UI can be accessed from multiple locations via a web-browser. Control can be limited to basic functions or full control can be awarded to delve deeper to fine tune the setup or recall different shows as needed.

VUALTO PARTNERS WITH ATEME FOR AUTOMATED ENCODER INTEGRATION

VUALTO, an expert in cloud-based OTT video delivery and orchestration, has partnered with ATEME, a leader in video delivery solutions for broadcast, cable, DTH, IPTV and OTT, for automated encoder integration within the VUALTO CONTROL HUB (VCH) video orchestration tool, which allows for multiple origins and encoders to be integrated seamlessly. The VCH is vendor agnostic and interoperable with a host of technology partners.

The VCH now has full integration for ATEME’s TITAN Live and TITAN Mux encoding solutions, providing integration with the TITAN Live API to automate live event streaming workflows, the ability to set specific inputs and outputs dynamically using the VCH channel configuration, provides support for redundant setups and has capabilities for on-premise and in cloud.

The automated integration with VCH makes streaming easier, removing the requirement for manual configuration and risk of error, which can be a particularly cumbersome process when using a redundant setup. The addition of ATEME’s TITAN solutions has also facilitated an extension of the VCH plugin set.

Combining the two technologies provides broadcasters with a premium quality streaming service, which is flexible, agile and entirely suited to their business model and end goals.

Shine TV Expands Innovative Use of LiveU Technology Across Series 2 of The Heist and Last Year and rsquo;s Series 3 of Celebrity Hunted

After the success of the first series of The Heist, Sky has commissioned a second series from leading UK production company Shine TV, with this airing from February 6th on Sky One. Once again Shine turned to LiveU to create an innovative production gallery, as well capturing onscreen footage, with the company also deploying LiveU to create a flexible nationwide filming and comms system for its series, Hunted and Celebrity Hunted. LiveU’s UK partner Garland Partners oversaw technology supply and provided support.

The filming of this year’s series of The Heist, which took place in and around Alnwick, Northumberland, UK, differed in two main ways from the first: the use of HEVC via five LU600 units and five LU300s; and a significant increase in the use of LiveU’s smartphone app LU-Smart with a 30 per cent growth in footage captured using this technology.

Filming The Heist has unique challenges as a group of thieves – nine members of the public split into four teams of two and one operating alone – takes part in a bank job to steal £1m. If they do this successfully and manage to keep the cash for 20 days, while being pursued by former real-world detectives, then it’s theirs to keep. The challenge comes in having the producer/directors – or storytellers – be able to see what the main camera teams are shooting while also being able to see what the thieves are up to in order to tell the best story possible. As well as the low-res feeds from the main cameras, the thieves used mobile phones and the LU-Smart app to send footage back to the low-res production gallery with that footage also stored on the phones for use in the show.

Calrec is showing its Type R modular, expandable, IP-based system at CABSAT. Type R makes use of standard networking technology and combines it with configurable soft panels that can be tailored to operator needs.

Type R’s physical control system consists of three slimline panels: a fader panel, a large soft panel and a small soft panel. Each is compatible with COTS hardware and powered over Ethernet to keep cabling to a minimum. At the heart of Type R is a simple 2U core with integrated I/O resources to get customers up and running immediately.

Calrec’s Brio console – immense power in a compact package

Calrec’s compact, high power Brio consoles are designed with versatility in mind to work across all different broadcast applications for everything from live sports to news and light entertainment. The Brio36 includes an impressive range of on board I/O so it’s operational straight out of the box. It also has full Hydra2 network compatibility and a sensitive price point that doesn’t reflect the full and rich broadcast feature set. The smaller Brio12 is only 484mm with standard trims and just 430mm with Calrec’s slim trim option.

Last year, Calrec upgraded the channel count for both the Brio36 and Brio12 with DSP expansion packs, bringing their channel counts from 64 to 96 inputs and 48 to 64 inputs, respectively.
