Northern Ireland’s Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster has today announced the opening of Mediasmiths Forge, a Belfast based software research and development facility established by media technology company, Mediasmiths. Dr. Terry Harmer will head up the operation as General Manager, tasked with setting up a high-quality development, testing and support organisation, and building the company’s research capability.
Creating 15 new jobs, the facility will be based in central Belfast, a renowned site for a number of broadcast, mobile and defence technology clusters in Northern Ireland. Mediasmiths Forge will look to become a ‘Centre of Excellence’ for organisations looking to fill a digital knowledge gap, or those coping with a period of transformational change in digital workflows and operations. Invest Northern Ireland has offered £75,000 of support towards the investment project.
Making the announcement, Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster said: “This investment will create 15 highly skilled jobs in the digital media sector, an important and growing industry which has the potential to deliver significant economic benefits to Northern Ireland."
The Mediasmiths Forge project will deliver over £640,000 annually in salaries making it exactly the type of high quality investment that Invest NI is focused on securing. Clearly Mediasmiths has recognised the benefits that Northern Ireland has to offer investors seeking a cost competitive location with a strong specialist skills base that can support global business growth.
