Intinor to Demonstrate How to Do Remote Production in Live Webinars With Skaarhoj Posted: 21/05/2020
Intinor to Demonstrate How to Do Remote Production in Live Webinars With Skaarhoj

Intinor Technology, Sweden’s leading developer of products and solutions for high quality video over the internet, will be demonstrating how to do remote production in a series of live webinars with Danish company Skaarhoj, manufacturers of universal broadcast control panels. The aim is to showcase how the remote production tools from both Intinor and Skaarhoj complement each other to give a flexible, secure workflow for live production using a variety of different content sources and locations.

Interest in remote production workflows (or REMI) has been on the increase for some time now already. Even before the current global social distancing requirements created an added incentive for broadcasting companies to seek an alternative to the traditional travel-dependent methods of production, the economic and productivity benefits that REMI offers enables companies to more easily meet the rising demand for live content.

Anevia Adds Multi-tiered Storage to its Cloud DVR Storage Offering Posted: 20/05/2020
Anevia Adds Multi-tiered Storage to its Cloud DVR Storage Offering

Anevia announces the addition of multi-tiered storage to its Cloud DVR storage offering, Embedded Distributed Storage (EDS). This new feature makes EDS even more cost-efficient and scalable while also enabling storage in the cloud – meaning the solution becomes both flexible and elastic.

TV service providers are increasingly enriching their VOD content and need to expand their storage capacity without a commensurate increase in the number of users. The original hyper-convergent design of the scalable, high-performance EDS calls for more servers to be added to increase streaming and storage capacity in parallel. Multi-tiered storage means it is now possible to also increase storage capacity independently of streaming capacity.

With only a small fraction of the VOD catalogue being consumed regularly, long-tail content can be stored more efficiently and cost-effectively on general-purpose ‘cold storage’ support used by the IT departments. This eliminates the need to buy new servers and the related software licences, cutting both the complexity and the cost of scaling for a given number of users.

The newly introduced feature also enables object storage, which opens up the possibility of storing in the public or private cloud. This brings the advantages of scalability, flexibility and elasticity.

Texas A and M Goes IP with Imagine Communications for Integrated Sports Production Posted: 28/04/2020
Texas A and amp;M Goes IP with Imagine Communications for Integrated Sports Production

12th Man Productions, the sports broadcast and post facility for Texas A&M University, has moved to IP connectivity to provide a common production platform for all its sports venues. A cornerstone of the new installation is the Selenio™ Network Processor (SNP) from Imagine Communications.

The A&M campus in College Station, Texas, incorporates seven sports venues, spread across the site, which host as many as 110 events a year. As well as offering broadcast outputs from any event at any location, 12th Man Productions also provides in-stadium big screen entertainment and information. The football stadium, Kyle Field, was rebuilt in 2014, and as part of that project, a central studio was planned.

Today, fiber circuits connect every field back to the Kyle Field stadium, allowing resources to be allocated to any venue dynamically. Four control rooms allow two venues to broadcast live, while also producing big screen shows at two more venues. This calls for a large number of feeds in each direction, supporting monitors, multiple digital signage networks and big screen replays, as well as feeds for home and visiting teams. There is also a need to provide for official replay facilities in many sports. All signals are handled as uncompressed HD, minimizing latency by eliminating the delays of compression math, and allowing for live remote production even when venues are 10 kilometers from the control room.

Bannister Lakes Chameleon Powers Real-Time Data for Global News OTT Channels Posted: 16/04/2020
Bannister Lakes Chameleon Powers Real-Time Data for Global News OTT Channels

Bannister Lake announced today that its Chameleon real-time data management product is being used to support the Global Television Network's new OTT initiatives. Chameleon is used to control and customize a variety of news, weather, and financial data feeds as well as to manage advertising and promotional content. Global News has launched one national and four regional OTT streams providing viewers with live, 24/7 news and information.

Bannister Lake provided Global Television with a suite of software products, including its Chameleon Web Player, that renders national and localized ticker content for each channel. Also included is the Chameleon Branding Player that displays ads for each channel while generating as-run logs. The project represents revolutionary new approaches that are more efficient and cost-effective when rendering HTML5 graphics for overlay in streams. Instead of rendering graphics using traditional graphic engines, costing tens of thousands of dollars, rendering is performed by inexpensive Raspberry Pi 4 computers.

The Global Television Network is a long-time client of Bannister Lake and uses Chameleon in a wide variety of ways to extend its editorial and business reach. The product is used daily to control and populate data-driven graphics for local morning shows and as an aggregator and distributor of news content for the network's digital signage initiatives. Bannister Lake also provides Global with an industry-leading election solution that allows producers to track real-time results, make race calls, build graphic playlists, and distribute custom election data to any endpoint.

Nevion helps Al Kass Sports Channels transition from SDI to IP Posted: 07/04/2020
Nevion helps Al Kass Sports Channels transition from SDI to IP

Nevion, award-winning provider of virtualized media production solutions, has announced Al Kass Sports Channels, a public broadcast service provider of information and sports entertainment programming in Qatar, has chosen Nevion’s flagship products VideoIPath and Virtuoso to connect its main facility with three other broadcast facilities across the country through a flexible IP-based media network infrastructure.

Previously, the channels had been exchanging media between Qatar Television (QTV), Al Bidda Tower in Corniche and BeIn Sports using microwave links. To support enhancements to the quality and cost-effectiveness of transmission, Al Kass Sports Channels required a state-of-the-art, scalable and flexible switching infrastructure that would support its eventual migration to higher resolutions and an all-IP environment.

Initially, the new solution would provide reliable ultra-low latency IP transport for uncompressed and compressed HD-SDI, DVB-ASI, intercom and data between the sites over a ring network topology. However, it also needed to be ready to handle 4K/UHD, HDR and SMPTE ST 2110 to support Al Kass’s plans.

The Virtuosos are used for the in real-time IP adaption and transport protection for video, audio and data, and also to provide encoding and decoding capabilities for both HD and 4K/UHD video feeds, while VideoIPath manages and orchestrates the complete network.

Telstra Global Media Network extends reach through new partnerships and capabilities Posted: 07/04/2020
Telstra Global Media Network extends reach through new partnerships and capabilities

Leading telecommunications and technology company, Telstra, announces advancements and partnerships to its Telstra Global Media Network (GMN) through a cloud gateway solution and media data services, as well as an extension of its GMN Partner Alliance with two new partners, PSSI and Intelsat.

Originally set to be announced at NAB 2020 and rolling out in April 2020, the new cloud gateway solution, known as GMN MediaNet, expands on the Telstra GMN’s international fibre, satellite and partner media networks by providing a gateway from “on-net” media rights holders to “off-net” media buyers, using cloud infrastructure.

Telstra is also adding data-based capability, known as GMN Media Data, using bi-directional and multi-point Ethernet services with the ability to create data channels that allow a point-to-point data link between a media company HQ and a remote event or location. Improving operations and workflows for contribution customers to bundle components which reduces their operational costs.

The Telstra Global Media Network is a purpose-built video contribution and distribution network integrating underlying media fibre networks, satellite capabilities, and partnerships, connecting 2500+ OnNet endpoints, including 1000+ customer sites and more than1500 venues and stadiums. The addition of a new secure cloud gateway to and from the network will allow high-quality video transport to and from markets with little to no infrastructure, as well as incident prone areas.
