New SDI to Dante Embedder De-Embedder from Sonifex

Sonifex has added to its AVN range of products a world first - the AVN-DIO10 which is a 3G/HD/SD-SDI to Dante® Embedder/De-Embedder in a single product solution. This is a simple plug and play audio/video interface that provides a convenient and elegant method of connecting legacy 3G/HD/SD-SDI equipment to the Dante® AoIP audio network.

The AVN-DIO10 takes any SDI feed, de-embeds the 16 audio channels and places them on channels 1-16 of the Dante network, mapped using Dante Controller. It simultaneously takes the 16 input channels mapped to the device on Dante Controller and re-embeds them onto the SDI output, with an embed enable switch for each channel pair.

It has a single 3G/HD/SD-SDI input and a reclocked output, with dual redundant Primary and Secondary Dante network ports, using Neutrik EtherCon® Ethernet connectors and is powered by PoE. It is a fully Dante compliant and AES67 compatible device that uses Dante Controller for configuration and supports the full range of Dante sample rates.

Rascular Expands its Tools for NDI with RouteMaster Lite Virtual NDI Routing Applications Suite Posted: 02/04/2020
Rascular Expands its Tools for NDI and reg; with RouteMaster Lite Virtual NDI Routing Applications Suite

Rascular, designers of software-based powerful, customisable control and monitoring applications for third-party, professional video technologies, has today announced the launch of three new versions of its RouteMaster Lite virtual routing for Newtek NDI® application: RouteMaster Lite Solo; RouteMaster Lite One; and RouteMaster Lite Four.

RouteMaster Lite - a Windows PC application - brings familiar video routing capabilities to Newtek’s NDI video. Based on Rascular’s proven RouteMaster system, it gives operators a range of familiar control interfaces for controlling video switching. With typical switching times of just one or two frames, RouteMaster Lite is perfect for live and on-air use. This ultra-fast switching makes it suitable for manual intervention and other applications where quick response is essential.

Roddy Pratt, Technical Director with Rascular, says, “Because of our strong commercial relationship with NewTek, we are very pleased to be able to provide ultra-fast switching, a uniquely powerful capability. RouteMaster Lite is ideal for OB and production environments, supporting up to 20 sources and 20 destinations. The built-in GUI is ideal for preset and take switching, showing resizable video previews and audio metering of the current video and the chosen source.”

No video streams are passed through the router system, instead traffic is redirected at the network level. This means only minimal bandwidth and processor requirements are needed, regardless of the number of video streams and resolution. There’s also no additional video delay through the system. Additionally, RouteMaster Lite does not become a central point of failure: if the router system fails for any reason, video continues to flow from sources to destinations uninterrupted.

Imagen Extends its Relationship with PA Media to Enhance the News Agencys Video Offering Posted: 01/04/2020
Imagen Extends its Relationship with PA Media to Enhance the News Agencys Video Offering

Imagen, the intuitive video management platform, has extended their long-term relationship with PA Media (PA), the national news agency for the UK & Ireland and a leading multimedia content and services provider, to upgrade and enhance its video portal.

An Imagen customer since 2014, PA recently called on Imagen to update the look of its customer-facing portal to reflect the company’s new branding and improve its functionality.

The upgraded portal now features a new partner area, allowing PA to host and label third party content alongside the news agency’s own editorial output. Enhanced search functionality and metadata display enable PA’s customers to surface relevant content from the vast catalogue of newsroom-ready, customer-ready and partner content, and in doing so, increase its speed to market.

Improved analytics functions from Imagen also allow the agency to track how customers are accessing and using content from the video portal by surfacing search records and user journeys.

In addition, PA has engaged Imagen’s content licensing business – Screenocean – to represent its video content. The new licensing agreement will enable the agency to find even more new audiences for its video content and, in turn, increase its revenue streams.

Globecast attains security assessment for its digital cinema business from Trusted Partner Network Posted: 31/03/2020
Globecast attains security assessment for its digital cinema business from Trusted Partner Network

Globecast, the global solutions provider for media, has announced that it has successfully received security assessment from Trusted Partner Network (TPN) for its Digital Cinema business to address video piracy and content redistribution.

Formed in 2018 by the Motion Picture Association (MPA) and the Content Delivery & Security Association (CDSA), the TPN program is a high-level, industry-wide film and television content protection initiative that helps companies safeguardtheir content. “The TPN program helps companies prevent leaks, breaches, and hacks of their customers’ movies and television shows prior to their intended release and seeks to raise security awareness, preparedness, and capabilities within our industry,” says TPN.

Through a single benchmark of security preparedness, it enables vendors to assess the security readiness of their facilities, staff and workflows against industry best practices. Once a vendor completes a TPN assessment, they are then published in an online directory of trusted partners that’s accessible to all production, post-production and distribution operations involved, allowing content owners to quickly and easily assess their level of security.

Globecast’s Digital Cinema service handles the transferring of digital content quickly and efficiently to 1,300 theatres in France (representing over 5,100 screens) through the public internet. It is also expanding this business across other international markets. Globecast manages everything from ingest and storage of the DCP files on premises to monitoring quality control and delivery notification via SMS or email.

“With content security being a top priority for the media industry and with new forms of piracy surfacing all the time, content protection methods are always being revisited and revised with premium content online enforcement programs and new forms of security services. Working through the TPN benchmark program means that content owners can easily see that we have the proper safeguards in place to make sure that our customers don’t fall victim to piracy and that their content is kept safe through the supply chain,” commented Frédérick Rochette, Globecast’s Director of Cinema Delivery.

Business as Usual Support, When Business is not Usual Posted: 31/03/2020
Business as Usual Support, When Business isn and rsquo;t Usual

Grass Valley is deploying a robust Business Continuity Initiative to help protect broadcasters, content owners and production companies, and give them enhanced operational support options and free access to selected services during this trying time. In the current climate, where media is crucial to inform and connect people, Grass Valley is stepping up its commitment to supporting the media industry through a series of free offers, discounted repairs and 24/7 access to its global technical support team at no cost.

To support production operations, now faced with keeping teams of remotely located personnel well connected to their workflows and content, Grass Valley is offering 90-day free licenses for GV STRATUS, sQ with Go! and EDIUS customers, meaning select client licenses and relevant core server software components will be available free of charge. Customers will be able to manage, create and deliver media to their audiences, using a tablet or computer, from home. The initiative will allow customers to collaborate on content creation with access via the cloud, or directly to their employer’s VPN.

For standalone EDIUS customers, Grass Valley is offering 90-day EDIUS licenses and EDIUS cloud testing (based on request or reservation) for all EDIUS Workgroup customers, enabling them to greatly expand their number of active users.

This initiative also includes significant benefits for Grass Valley support contract customers. For the next 90 days, the company will suspend its billable technical support process globally, so customers will not be charged for support, even if they do not have an entitlement. Existing Grass Valley customers will also be eligible for a 25 percent discount off the normal price for any exchange parts and factory repairs.

Finally, as our global crisis continues to limit travel and, therefore, the reach of Grass Valley’s live training capabilities, the company will soon announce a series of webinars including skills training for LiveTouch replay solutions, switcher software releases and NMOS, and remote connectivity for technical support operations.

Tim Shoulders, president of Grass Valley commented: “Our broadcast customers are facing considerable pressure to get breaking news to viewers and keep their operations running smoothly while following social distancing guidelines. Grass Valley is here to help with tools and support resources to ensure that no matter where their teams are working, they can keep viewers connected, informed and united.”

LiveU Remote At-Home Production Helps Tencent Bring Speed Skating Race Live to Viewers in China Posted: 31/03/2020
LiveU Remote At-Home Production Helps Tencent Bring Speed Skating Race Live to Viewers in China

Following the International Skating Union (ISU)’s postponement of the 2020 World Short Track Speed Skating Championships in South Korea, the China Short Track Speed Skating team decided to go ahead and organize a ‘Simulation Game of the ISU Championships’ in Beijing. Tencent Sports, the main broadcaster responsible for the live production and public broadcast, turned to LiveU to implement a remote production solution, deploying only the necessary equipment on site, including the cameras and wireless transmission units. All the rest, including production, contribution and distribution, was handled by Tencent personnel back in the studio in Tencent’s technical center.

This was challenging work within the strict limitations of the COVID-19 outbreak. The event organizer closed the stadium, didn’t allow an audience to minimize the risk of people gathering in one place, and limited the number of essential staff onsite. Tencent Sports used four LiveU LU600 HEVC bonding units, which provided solid high-quality live video streams with low delay. All the streaming came to a single high-density LiveU server, with the same delay, optimizing LiveU’s Precision Timing™ in its at-home production solution. With support from China Unicom, 5G signal was also available in the field – all the LiveU units combined both 4G and 5G connectivity to ensure optimal streaming conditions.

CRYSTAL VISION RELEASES FOUR VIDEO DELAYS THAT WORK WITH BOTH IP AND SDI Posted: 30/03/2020
CRYSTAL VISION RELEASES FOUR VIDEO DELAYS THAT WORK WITH BOTH IP AND SDI

Crystal Vision continues its commitment to being the leading video delay provider with the release of four variable video delays that can work with IP, with SDI or with both IP and SDI at the same time and provide up to 32 seconds of delay. Designed to match any equipment with a processing delay, Crystal Vision's latest video delays are software apps that run on the MARBLE-V1 media processor hardware and can easily be replaced if needs change. Broadcast engineers can choose a version with the features they need, selecting the required number of channels (single, dual or triple) and the required amount of delay (up to 100, 200, 400 or 800 frames). These are the industry's first video delays to offer IP connectivity (supporting both SMPTE ST 2022 and ST 2110 video over 10GbE IP networks), while for those working with SDI they introduce a 3G/HD/SD-capable video delay to the Vision frame system for the first time – with the easiest possible upgrade path to IP. The inclusion of IP to SDI and SDI to IP gateway functionality also makes them the ideal video delay for hybrid systems.

Never.no inks licensing agreement with Applied Electronics in Canada

Never.no, the award-winning audience engagement specialist, has today announced a partnership agreement with Applied Electronics. Headquartered in Toronto, Canada, the media solutions company will license Never.no’s Bee-On platform and offer local support, creative assistance and training for broadcasters and content providers.

“We’re delighted to announce our new partnership with Applied Electronics. Their experience and knowledge of the industry, not to mention their expansive sales network, fits our strategic regional growth plans. We’re excited to work with forward-thinking broadcasters and content providers looking to bridge the gap between content and their audiences,” said Scott Davies, CEO of Never.no.

“We’ll be working with their teams to give extensive support and training, which includes Bee-On’s new, soon-to-be-announced capabilities, that will enhance content providers’ workflows with seamless social platform and web browser integration,” added Karl Kathuria, head of North America for Never.no.

With over 20 years’ experience in interactive TV, Never.no has developed its cloud-based SaaS solution Bee-On to provide broadcasters and advertisers with the tools to deliver rich and captivating content that can be managed remotely, away from main production hubs. Bee-On’s intuitive system enables rapid real-time production changes and produces HD broadcast graphics on linear and digital platforms. The innovative feature-set includes a robust social moderation engine that filters audience-generated content - such as images, comments and videos – and manages scalable live polls and competitions, delivered in real-time for live or pre-recorded programming.

“Applied Electronics is excited to represent Never.no in the Canadian marketplace – a company that has been at the forefront of social technology innovation since the inception of the social media phenomenon,” said Paul Stechly, president of Applied Electronics. “The way people interact with content has evolved dramatically over the past two decades. It is fascinating to see the incredible possibilities that exist now for global audiences to interact in real time with the content they consume.”
