Harmonic Inc. (NASDAQ: HLIT) today introduced Omneon Spectrum(TM) MediaCenter SSD, adding solid-state drive (SSD) technology to the company's midrange multichannel media server. Featuring integrated storage plus Spectrum MediaPort modularity and scalability, MediaCenter SSD is the first modular server system to offer a choice of SSD or hard-disk drive (HDD) storage. The system provides exceptional performance and reliability for broadcasters and remote playout facilities requiring from four to 12 channels in a single video server configuration.

Harmonic Inc. today announced that BBC Sport will use the Omneon MediaGrid(TM) active storage system at the International Broadcast Centre (IBC) as part of the file-based quick-turnaround sports workflow supporting the broadcaster's London 2012 Olympic Games coverage. Hyperactive, one of the U.K.'s largest equipment hire companies, is working with Dega Broadcast Systems to supply the MediaGrid, which will provide 3,500 hours of efficient work-in-progress storage.

CBC Cologne Broadcasting Center Builds Ingest and Playout on Omneon Spectrum(TM) HD Media Server Harmonic Inc. today announced that Germany's CBC Cologne Broadcasting Center, part of The Media Group RTL Germany, has installed an Omneon Spectrum(TM) HD media server system to support ingest and playout for its RTL HD and VOX HD channels from a brand-new broadcast center in Cologne.

"When we first moved our Munich branch to a file-based environment five years ago, we chose to build our broadcast workflow on Omneon Spectrum media server systems," said Mido Fayad, head of broadcast operations and engineering at CBC. "Given the excellent versatility and performance of those systems in supporting our playout and archive applications, it was an easy decision to invest in Spectrum HD systems for our new Cologne broadcast center."
