With seven years of successful trading under its belt, London-based post production facility Sequence Post is reaping the rewards of a business model that focuses on the creative process of television, film and commercial production.
This philosophy extends throughout the company, incorporating everything from staff and facilities through to equipment choices.
Quality is very important to us, says Sequence Post Founder and Director Ben Foakes. We have, over time, developed a fairly revolutionary post production business model, focusing on short form production and high-end finishing work. This is our area of expertise and as a result we do not offer dry hire offline suites or provide duplication and such like.
In recent weeks, Sequence Post has upgraded the Color Grading and Online Editing suites on its Finishing floor at its Middleton Place facility. The upgrade involved installing two Penta Series PDP24 LCD grading monitors, which were supplied by Oxygen DCT.
We searched for some time and tested numerous models, including Sony and Cinetal, but in the end we found that Oxygen DCT offered us the most performance for our available budget, Foakes says. We have installed on monitor into our Color Grading suite and one into the largest of our online edit suites. Each are connected to Final Cut Pro and Color suites via AJA Kona LHE cards, allowing HD SDI monitoring. The screens allow us to seamlessly switch between HD and SD grading projects and provide a high quality, glossy image which the clients love.
Although the competitive pricing offered by Oxygen DCT was an important factor, Foakes says that quality was even more crucial to his decision making.
The picture quality delivered by the Penta monitors was beautiful and we also felt that the customer service and help level provided by Steve Hathaway and his team at Oxygen DCT was second to none. They always go out of their way to help us, often at very short notice. Recently we had a last minute feature film booking and needed the main grading suite monitor calibrated and checked before job commencement. David Thompson from Oxygen DCT arrived from half way across the country within two hours to sort it out. We love that type of client attention and it is why we are happy to be a long-term customer.
Oxygen DCTs Penta series monitors are built to order and use only the highest grade A LCD panels, combined with precision engineering and manufacture to the most exacting tolerances to ensure that every aspect of the monitors is exactly optimised to give the highest performance. The introduction of 10-bit LCD technology has pushed the quality boundary even further, enabling the recently introduced Penta Gold Series to exceed, in many parameters, the performance of grade 1 CRT reference monitors.
Numerous broadcasters including the BBC, ITV, C4, RedBee and IMG, have chosen Penta Series picture monitors for critical applications because they offer such exceptionally high performance and for a very reasonable price, says Oxygen DCTs Managing Director Steve Hathaway. All of the monitors in the Penta Series have a long life cycle and require minimum calibration, which saves our customers considerable time and money. Whats more, these monitors deliver astonishing and lifelike colour and results, which is a very important factor for an industry where monitor quality has become such a critical issue.
Since installing its new monitors, Sequence Post has used them on a variety of projects including grading three feature films - The Film Makers Son, Verity's Summer and Harsh Light of Day. They have also been used during the post production of numerous television programmes including YOTA Space for MTV Russia, Escape To The Country for BBC1 and the documentary IPL Cricket Dare To Dream, which is destined for worldwide broadcast. In addition, the companys in-house short form production arm Sequence Creative has finished numerous pieces using the Penta screens including Channel sponsor idents for Take To The Streets on Channel 5 and Sky Sports.
We are really delighted with the results we are achieving with these monitors, and with the service we have received from Oxygen DCT, Ben Foakes adds. Oxygen DCT is always very timely and accommodating with technical support, which is massively helpful when you are running a busy post house.
