PESA at InfoComm 2012

PESA, a leading U.S.-based custom design and build manufacturing company for professional audio and video signal distribution, will present its Jaguar 3 6464 series fiber optic routing switcher with an optional backplane design that uses MiniCube Miniature Form Pluggable (MFP) transmitter technology at InfoComm 2012 (Booth N1327), which runs June 13-15 in Las Vegas, Nev. Developed by Advanced Fiber Products, LLC., MFP technology establishes a new approach to LC-type fiber connectivity that saves space and uses less power.

Offering up to 6464 high-speed fiber optic ports, PESAs Jaguar 3 is the first routing switcher to incorporate MFP technology for compact fiber optic switching. Two shared backplanes allow I/O ports in groups of 32 for either 75 Ohm BNC or MFP LC fiber. The Jaguar 3 can route all SMPTE and ITU standard serial digital video signals, and it supports embedded audio and other ancillary data for SDI, HD-SDI, and DVB/ASI broadcast sources. For digital cinema, the Jaguar 3 can easily be configured to support SMPTE S372 for dual-link HD-SDI.

With the MFP optional fiber backplane, HD signals can be transmitted up to 10 Km. Data rates from 50 Mbps up to 3 Gbps are supported. All inputs are auto-equalized, while outputs are auto-sensed and re-clocked to the appropriate transport stream. For non-standard formats, re-clockers can be bypassed to allow any data rate up to 3 Gbps. Two independent reference inputs allow easy selection of sync using either black burst or tri-level sync source.

Although 3G-SDI fiber optic switching has been around for years, MFP technology brings a whole new concept to frame packaging, explained Dan Holland, PESA vice president of product marketing. With PESAs new Jaguar 3 6464 MFP fiber matrix switcher option, offering coax and/or fiber connectivity becomes much less complex, which allows us to provide a better performing matrix at a much more competitive price point.

With MFP modules, both vertical and right-angle pluggable cages are available, resulting in a 50 percent smaller footprint. With vertical mount cages, hot-pluggable fiber connections can be loaded in the same backplane space as a standard BNC port, which simplifies product packaging and increases product performance. Plus, MFP video transceivers use up to 40 percent less power than traditional video optical transceivers.

The 2 RU Jaguar 3 frame features front load, hot-swappable card sets and includes slots for optional redundant power supply/control modules. It can be configured to support a variety of control interfaces, including Ethernet, RS-232, or PESAs PERC2000 control system. It also includes PESAs CATTRAX software, which provides a network interface for diagnostics, setup, and switching by multiple users. For pushbutton control, the Jaguar 3 offers three styles of local or remote panels.

PESA CATops Rapid Deployable A/V Package Brings Prompt Command and Control Capabilities to Mobile Operation Centers

Huntsville, Alabama  PESA, a leading U.S.-based custom design and build manufacturing company for professional audio and video signal distribution, will showcase its CATops Command and Control Video Distribution Unit (VDU) at InfoComm 2012 (Booth N1327), which runs June 13-15 in Las Vegas, Nev. The lightweight, easily deployable CATops VDU digital audio and video system connects up to 28 uncompressed full motion video sources for large-screen projection display.

CATops is an ideal command and control (C2) or intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) platform for supporting a wide range of mission critical mobile command and control environments, including military, law enforcement, emergency/disaster management, tactical security operations, and remote field C2 shelters. The control system correlates signals from video cameras, digital recorders, television satellite feeds, and computer imaging systems to provide enhanced analytic capabilities of real-time video analysis. Video output displays can be configured and managed through a front panel pushbutton interface or PESAs integrated CATops control software.

Each CATops includes at least one quad-view video processor, with a built-in video management system that allows input sources to be connected to both VGA and DVI projectors simultaneously for dual quad-screen displays. Up to four quad-view video processors can support up to eight quad-screen projector screens. Also, each quad-view can be used as an input source for other output displays, which is ideal when sharing sources from different sectors in a battalion or brigade configuration.

With the integration of PESAs new C58 Digital Media System (C58-DMS), which is being introduced at InfoComm, CATops can support streaming video both full screen or quad-split display over an H.264 video transport. Plus, with the audio capabilities of the C58-DMS, CATops now provides accurate audio-video synchronization during videoconferencing.

In the field, uncomplicated delivery of quality imagery is extremely important for the military and other government agencies, explained Dan Holland, PESA vice president of product marketing. With PESAs advanced technology, CATops makes it easy to manage and distribute multiple live and near real-time uncompressed video for analysis. And our new support for streaming video and videoconferencing makes CATops even more flexible in the field.

While high resolution displays with DVI and HDMI connections are becoming more commonplace, CATops also includes inputs for legacy RGB video and NTSC/PAL sources. As a result, it accommodates digital sources as well as older analog video equipment and unpredictable computer resolutions in the field. I/O cabling is based on standard coax (or optional fiber optic) to eliminate noise and crosstalk interference found in most CATx systems.

CATops is housed in a rugged, weatherproof, and shock-mounted case with built-in roller wheels and cable pouch. Its compact, modular design allows for easy transport and quick deployment, while its efficient design provides low power consumption. CATops also includes a rugged, lightweight aluminum projection frame system, which uses patented cantilevered floating arms or compact rear mounts to support a short-throw projector.

At the core of CATops are PESAs commercial-grade products, which are fully compliant with DISAs test and evaluation standards defined under the Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) guidelines for VDU interoperability. Many DoD programs require compliance to ensure end-to-end interoperability with other video distribution equipment, and CATops is based on industry-proven SMPTE transmission methods to guarantee cross-platform compatibility between computers, full-motion video (FMV), and live digital broadcast for ISR applications.

The 9905-MPx, an audio/video processor for baseband digital signals, is capable of handling up to four independent 3G signals in a single, dense, cost-effective package that provides all common broadcast processing functions without any quality compromises. The card includes individual up/down/cross conversion scalers that are specifically designed for broadcast video formats, with full ARC control suitable for conversions to/from 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios. The multi-path design offers discrete AES and MADI audio embedding/routing/mixing/de-embedding to any of the four processing paths. Standard 3D LUT features and available color correction accommodate SDR and HDR processing for downstream HDR systems, on a per-channel basis. The card also supports per-channel logo insertion, as well as ancillary data insertion/extraction.
