HPA Announces Tech Retreat Supersession Details: Beyond the Hype

The Hollywood Professional Association (HPA) has announced further details for the much-anticipated 2022 HPA Tech Retreat Supersession, this year focusing on virtual production. The Supersession will take place in person on Tuesday, February 22 during the four-day Tech Retreat. Programmed this year by respected industry experts Kari Grubin and Erik Weaver, the Supersession boasts an impressive lineup of speakers, demonstrations, and case studies from leaders in the adaptation and evolution of virtual production and in camera VFX. The program presents an unusual opportunity to see what happens when the major technology innovators and manufacturers collaborate in real time. Speakers are still being added and further updates will be available at hpaonline.com.

Legend3D Enters Strategic Partnership with Imagineer Systems

Imagineer Systems, creators of the Academy Award-winningmocha® Planar Tracking technology, today announced a strategic partnership with world-renowned 2D-to-3D stereo conversion company Legend3D. Imagineer Systems recently completed an innovative R&D initiative, optimizing integration of mocha Pro with Legend3Ds proprietary VFX tools. The new workflow features mocha Pro fully integrated into the Legend3D conversion and visual effects pipeline in its Southern California and India facilities. For 2D-to-3D conversions, mocha Pro is used for multiple processes including segmentation and clean plating: the process to recreate and fill in background pixels that do not exist in the 2D version. This custom development gave Legend3D access to Imagineers engineering team, resulting in a streamlined workflow for mocha Pro and Legend3Ds internal systems. With support for up to 325 artists, Legend3D represents the largest mocha Pro installation to date.
