Hicktown Records Adds More Modules To Its Neve Genesys Console Posted: 15/05/2020
Hicktown Records Adds More Modules To Its Neve Genesys Console

German recording studio and music label Hicktown Records has added eight more modules to the Neve Genesys console in its main control room, bringing the desk up to G64 32-channel specifications.

Based in Rosenheim, Bavaria, Hicktown Records installed its Neve Genesys console in 2009 when the studio facility originally opened. But even then, Hicktown’s CEO, A&R manager and producer Reinhard Gross had his eye on the future because he ordered a G48 console with G64 dimensions, knowing that at some point he would want to expand it.

“When I was choosing a console, I was looking for something that had full analogue character, a fast intuitive workflow, DAW options, lots of headroom, nice onboard EQs and dynamics and, of course, good pre-amps," he says. "The only console that could fulfil all those requirements was the Genesys, and to this day I have never regretted my investment.”

2wcom 4audio MPX solutions follow the needs of flexibility in distribution Posted: 03/03/2020
2wcom and rsquo;s 4audio MPX solutions follow the needs of flexibility in distribution

The new MPX solution offers numerous system design options due to its modular concept. To just distributing the MPX signal, the IP-4c codec is sufficient. For signal generating or manipulating the product of choice is one of the 4audio MPX series equipped with the respective software modules such as RDS encoder, stereo generator or MPX codec. To connect the studio and the MPX link, all devices provide inputs for analog audio, AES/EBU and Audio over IP.

Besides signal assembling that includes audio, pilot and RDS it is also possible to count on bandwidth economy, forward the RDS data separately and add it at the transmitter site. Or, broadcasters can choose an algorithm for high compression.

At the transmitter, it is possible to just decode the MPX signal and feed the transmitter or to manipulate it. For example, splitting the MPX signal to substitute the RDS data with regionalized RDS information. Or, if the received signal only includes audio and pilot to add the local RDS data.

MPX distribution via satellite offers advantages like source redundancy, cost efficiency and increases coverage mainly in regions still lacking broadband IP. This is possible by MPE encapsulation of the signal at the studio and an optional satellite tuner that is available for 2wcom’s receiving units.

AMS Neve Helps Parasite Deliver Exceptional Sound Quality Posted: 26/02/2020
AMS Neve Helps Parasite Deliver Exceptional Sound Quality

South Korean film facility Live Tone Studios is celebrating the success of Parasite, the comedy satire directed by Bong Joon-ho that made Academy Awards® history in February by becoming the first foreign language film to win an Oscar® for Best Picture.

Audio post production for this remarkable movie, which also picked up three other Oscars® for Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best International Film, was carried out at the facility using one of its two large format AMS Neve DFC 3D film consoles. A 48-channel Neve Genesys console also played its part as this was used to record and monitor Additional Dialogue Replacement (ADR).

Ralph Tae-Young Choi is CEO, Sound Supervisor and Re-recording mixer at Live Tone Studios, a facility he helped establish in 1997, says: “The sound of Parasite was so detailed and emotional that it needed the console automation to operate very efficiently and simply. This is where the Neve DFC 3D really came into its own. I mix all of my movie sound with an AMS Neve DFC 3D console because it has a much more powerful audio engine and better audio quality than other consoles or DAWs. For a mixer to be intuitive and efficient, you need the console to be reliable and the AMS Neve DFC 3D excels at that.”

Dejero Wins Second Prestigious Technology and Engineering Emmy Award

Globally recognized award underlines how Dejero exponentially improves flexibility in location coverage for newsgathering and live events crews

Dejero, an innovator in cloud-managed solutions that provide award-winning video transport and Internet connectivity while mobile or in remote locations, has been awarded a second prestigious Technology and Engineering Emmy® Award. The award, in the category of Video over Bonded Cellular Internet (VoCIP) technology, recognizes Dejero’s innovation in the industry, thanks to its Smart Blending Technology and unique hybrid encoding approach.

Headquartered in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, Dejero has perfected its patented and patent-pending Smart Blending and hybrid encoding technologies over the course of the last decade. The technologies work in concert to form a tightly integrated system which responds in real time to changes in network quality and video content. This has helped transform how broadcasters contribute live content from the field using cellular networks, providing newsgathering crews with greater flexibility in terms of the location from where they can transmit a live shot, at a fraction of the cost of conventional uplink technology.

“We are thrilled to win not just one Emmy® – the most recognized broadcast award in the world – but two,” said Bogdan Frusina, founder of Dejero. "Last year the committee rewarded our decade of innovation for pioneering reliable transmission methods that enable live contribution and distribution of TV signals over the public Internet. This year they have gone on to further recognize our industry-leading technologies, showing that our continuous development is raising the quality and reliability standards of mobile video and data transmission.”

Viacom International Media Networks deploys Hitomi MatchBox for 2019 MTV Europe Music Awards Posted: 19/11/2019
Viacom International Media Networks deploys Hitomi MatchBox for 2019 MTV Europe Music Awards

Hitomi Broadcast, manufacturer of MatchBox, the industry’s leading audio video alignment technologies, today announced that Viacom International Media Networks Media and Technology Services (MTS) used MatchBox for the 2019 MTV Europe Music Awards in Seville, Spain, on 3 November.

Viacom International MTS deployed MatchBox’s sync toolbox for the red carpet, main award show, backstage, and after-show party feeds, televised on 100+ channels worldwide from the FIBES Conference and Exhibition Centre in Seville. Hosted by American singer, songwriter, and actress, Becky G, the show included a special headline performance, filmed by Viacom International the previous night at the MTV World Stage at Plaza de España in Seville, by ‘Best Rock’ nominee, Green Day.

Viacom International MTS Global Lead Systems Engineer for Studio and Production Technology, Matt Okotie, said, “Using MatchBox, I can sync signals in under a millisecond to ensure that before we go to air, lip sync is correct. This is crucial for any production, but particularly for a live, globally distributed event, so you have to be absolutely sure you get it right. That’s why I leave it to MatchBox. Basically, if MatchBox reads ‘zero’, you know that lip sync is perfect.”

Viacom International MTS used MatchBox to sync its 4K/UHD feed from Seville to London, and then on for a global sync to all the other MatchBox readers around the world.
