Magewell Expands Recording and Live Streaming Capabilities in Ultra Stream Encoders

Magewell has released a new upgrade for its award-winning Ultra Stream family of live streaming encoder hardware that further enhances the devices' exceptional ease of use and versatility. Available in all new units and as a free firmware update for existing customers, version 1.3 adds flexible new recording modes alongside expanded streaming protocol support and various minor refinements.

Magewell's Ultra Stream encoders make live streaming remarkably simple even for non-professional users, enabling them to record or stream high-quality video with one click using on-device buttons, a browser-based web interface or an intuitive smartphone app. Designed for users who want to stream but may have minimal technical knowledge, the compact devices are ideal for addressing the increased need for live streaming created by today's stay-at-home and social distancing restrictions.

Magewell Adds SRT Streaming to Free Capture Express Software Posted: 15/04/2020
Magewell Adds SRT Streaming to Free Capture Express Software

Magewell today announced a new upgrade of its free Capture Express recording application that expands the software's streaming capabilities. Version 3.2 adds new support for multiple streaming technologies including the Secure Reliable Transport (SRT) protocol developed and open-sourced by Haivision.

While Magewell capture devices feature extensive compatibility with popular third-party software for streaming, live production, web conferencing, lecture capture and more, the Capture Express software offers Magewell users a lightweight, dedicated tool for recording, previewing or streaming input sources. Originally designed to help users easily verify their input signals and capture devices, Capture Express has evolved into a simple yet full-fledged capture application supporting video up to 4K at 60 frames per second.

Version 3.0 of Capture Express initially offered easy recording and previewing functionality, and the subsequent version 3.1 added the ability to stream H.264-encoded video using the RTMP protocol. Now, version 3.2 further expands the software's streaming flexibility with support for the SRT protocol as well as MPEG-TS over UDP or RTP. Enabling secure, reliable, low-latency video delivery over unpredictable networks, SRT ensures high-quality streaming experiences even over the public internet. Magewell is a member of the SRT Alliance.

Intinor Demonstrates Unprecedented IP Contribution Capability Posted: 10/03/2020
Intinor Demonstrates Unprecedented IP Contribution Capability

Intinor, the leading developer of products and solutions for high quality video over the internet, provides uniquely powerful solutions to both combine as many as eight individual video feeds, and stream them synchronously across multiple internet paths.

The Intinor solution creates a coherent video path over the public internet, using broadband (ethernet or Wifi), cellular (3G, 4G LTE or 5G) and Ka-band satellite as required to achieve the necessary bandwidth and resilience. What makes its solution unique is the use of forward error correction and ARQ (re-sending) in Intinor’s own transport protocol BRT™. This gives the transport stream very strong protection against lost packets – causing picture disruptions and freezes – while at the same time minimising latency, particularly important in sports.

“We have tackled head on the major challenge of video over the internet: the risk of lost packets,” said Roland Axelsson, CEO at Intinor. “IP is designed to get the data to the destination at all costs, however long it takes; video needs a complete new picture every 40 milliseconds. At Intinor, we have created BRT™ to virtually eliminate lost packets – and therefore picture and sound disruption – with minimal latency and minimal additional data overhead. The results are remarkable.”

The Intinor solution is primarily software, but the company offers a hardware product, Heimdall, which incorporates eight 3G or 4G modems in a 1U rack cabinet, which along with an Intinor Direkt router can multiplex up to eight camera feeds with associated audio into a single stream, which is then transmitted over multiple bonded networks for delivery to a central production base.

Artspace Studio Buys a Prism Sound Titan Audio Interface Posted: 18/07/2014
Artspace Studio Buys a Prism Sound Titan Audio Interface
Artspace Studio, one of London's premier boutique recording, has recently invested in a Prism Sound Titan USB multi-track audio interface for its Brixton-based facility.

"Titan was recommended to me by quite a few people, including mastering engineer Mandy Parnell at Black Saloon Studios and Kirk DeGiorgio (aka As One)," explains mixing and mastering engineer/producer, Tom Gillieron. "We thought we'd test one out, and we were amazed! I do a lot of mixdown work for people and they send me tracks that they've mixed down 'in the box' in Pro Tools, Ableton or Logic. When I compare the mixes I have done through the Titan and then summed on the SSL Matrix, the clarity in the high end is amazing and the stereo image is far clearer and more impressive."
