Riedel and RRN Deliver Remote Mastering Service for Live-Streamed Peter Maffay Concert

Riedel Communications and Remote Recording Network (RRN) today announced their collaboration on a unique remote mastering service for a live-streamed concert performed by Peter Maffay and local musicians from Steintor-Varietè in Halle, Germany.

The special acoustic concert, which took place on April 13 (Easter Monday), was mixed on location by Werner Schmidl and, using RRN's Remote Mixing facility, mastered remotely by Peter Brandt from Studio Boecker in Cologne. Both locations were connected through the Riedel Remote Operations Center (ROC) in Wuppertal, which served as the communications and signal transmission hub of the operation. From there, ROC engineers monitored communications, remotely configured all signals, and transmitted all audio streams between venue and studio.

This method of communication and audio transmission was jointly developed by Riedel and Remote Music Productions, a subsidiary of RRN, and is setting standards for the production of high-quality, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective audio transmissions.

Riedel MediorNet and Artist Provide Signal Routing and Comms Backbone for RTL Croatias Studio Upgrade to HD

RTL Croatia, one of Croatia's largest broadcasters, has chosen Riedel Communications' MediorNet real-time network and Artist digital matrix intercom for its comprehensive studio upgrade to HD operations. MediorNet and Artist are at the core of an integrated and decentralized signal routing and communications backbone that drives RTL's news and master control rooms, including a large video wall with more than 100 picture-in-picture (PiP) displays.

Launched in 2004, RTL Croatia is a division of RTL Group, a Luxembourg-based digital media company with interests in 61 television and 30 radio stations in 10 countries. Working with Riedel's local distributor and consultant, AVC Zagreb, RTL Croatia has just finished a four-year project to upgrade its production facilities to deliver its eight channels in HD. The latest HD channel, RTL Adria, went live in January.

Riedels Artist and Bolero Provide Clear and Reliable Comms for First Season of International Swimming League Posted: 05/03/2020
Riedels Artist and Bolero Provide Clear and Reliable Comms for First Season of International Swimming League

Riedel's Artist digital matrix intercom and Bolero wireless intercom are at the core of a comprehensive event communications solution for the all-new International Swimming League (ISL). The integrated Artist/Bolero system enabled clear and highly reliable crew communications for the ISL's inaugural season in 2019, culminating in December's Grand Final at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

The ISL has brought swimming to the world of professional sports, with male and female swimmers competing in teams rather than individually. Throughout 2019, the league conducted seven short-course swimming matches in cities around the world, with Energy Standard of France winning the first-ever ISL Championship at the Grand Final.

Dodd Technologies Inc. (DTI), a full-service event and entertainment production company, produced the four U.S.-based meets for broadcast and streaming outlets. These included events in Indianapolis; Washington, D.C.; Dallas; and the Grand Final in Las Vegas, for which DTI worked with Myrtha Pools and Klance Unlimited to install a custom-built, acrylic-sided pool, holding nearly one million gallons of water, in the Mandalay Bay Casino Arena.

For each of these events, the DTI production team relied on an Artist-32 mainframe interfaced with desktop and rack-mounted Riedel 2300-Series SmartPanels, which routed intercom signals seamlessly to 10 Bolero intercom beltpacks. At Mandalay Bay, only two Bolero antennas were needed to provide flawless and crystal-clear communications to the entire arena and surrounding rooms.

Riedel Artist, Bolero, and MediorNet Help Usher in 2020 for First-Ever Live Stream of Edinburghs Hogmanay 19 Celebration Posted: 03/03/2020
Riedel Artist, Bolero, and MediorNet Help Usher in 2020 for First-Ever Live Stream of Edinburghs Hogmanay 19 Celebration

Once again, Riedel Communications supplied a comprehensive signal transport and communications backbone for the spectacular New Year's Eve Hogmanay celebration in Edinburgh, Scotland on Dec. 31. Riedel's MediorNet provided real-time transport, processing, and routing for all video and audio signals and also enabled critical IP-based systems such as CCTV, Internet access, and weather monitoring. Riedel's Artist digital matrix intercom system and Bolero wireless intercom were tightly integrated with MediorNet to ensure clear and reliable communications for the production crew across five stages.

Billed as one of the world's largest New Year's Eve celebrations, Edinburgh's Hogmanay 19 culminated in a giant street party on Dec. 31 with international, U.K., and Scottish performers and a huge midnight fireworks display. Award-winning DJ and producer Mark Ronson headlined the concert and provided a live, custom soundtrack to accompany the fireworks. For the first time in Hogmanay history, the festival was live-streamed to Facebook, YouTube, and the Hogmanay website. Produced by Underbelly, a U.K.-based live entertainment production company, the multicamera webcast allowed viewers anywhere in the world to enjoy the entire 5.5-hour event from their phones, tablets, or laptops.

"Since Underbelly first produced Edinburgh's Hogmanay in 2017, we have installed a city centre wide Riedel network. Over the three years, we have significantly increased the utilisation of the system and it has now become an essential and integral part of the event. The network facilitates not only the creatively world class show, but is also essential for the crowd safety management and operational success of the event," said David Watson, Production Director, Underbelly. "Riedel's world-class networking and comms technology, coupled with the onsite configuration and event expertise of James Mitchelmore (Direct Control UK), Ed Lawlor (Visual Certainty), and the Riedel team, was absolutely essential for the smooth running of the festival."

Operating over ten kilometers of fibre, Riedel's MediorNet formed a massive signal transport communications backbone for Hogmanay19, with 16 MediorNet Compact Pro stageboxes deployed at sites throughout Edinburgh. The network was anchored by a MetroN core router, with additional MediorNet MicroN high-density media distribution network devices enabling many different modular configurations. In addition to audio distribution for all stages and video distribution to all big screens, MediorNet provided an IP tunnel to facilitate CCTV, Internet access, weather monitoring, power monitoring, and lighting control. To facilitate crew communications, two Artist-64 digital matrix intercom systems supported 33 Artist panels and 35 Bolero wireless beltpacks, with intercom signals provided by 19 Bolero antennas.

Bolero Sets the Bar for Wireless Intercom Usability and Comfort for California-Based DP Craig Kief Posted: 26/02/2020
Bolero Sets the Bar for Wireless Intercom Usability and Comfort for California-Based DP Craig Kief

Craig Kief, a Los Angeles-based director of photography, is using Riedel's Bolero Standalone wireless intercom for crew communications on his TV shows and commercials. The system allows him to keep all of his camera operators, focus pullers, and department heads in close communication so everyone can focus on the same goals in the middle of a busy and noisy set. With its long list of advanced features and capabilities, Bolero now enables clear communications for every production, whether it's shot on studio sets or at remote locations.

Craig's previous comms solution comprised walkie-talkies and a legacy wireless system that operated in the crowded 2.4 GHz range, delivering less-than-ideal audio quality and suffering from interference, short range, and poor battery life. Bolero has changed all of that, first by eliminating walkie-talkies completely, and next by allowing a more natural way of speaking: giving multiple users full duplex communications instead of forcing them to wait for a walkie channel to be clear before speaking. In addition, audio quality is superb — resulting in far less ear fatigue – and the system's multiple party lines give each crew member the ability to choose and change who they need to monitor throughout the day.

"Bolero has been a fantastic addition to my team. Interestingly, now that we've gotten out of the 2.4 range, all of my other 2.4 gear is working better," said Craig. "Wireless lighting control, focus control, and other gear is functioning much better now, and the main difference is that we're no longer using the 2.4 GHz system."

Chinese Television System Relies on Riedel Intercom Solution for Live 2020 Taipei New Years Eve Broadcast

WUPPERTAL, Germany — Jan. 28, 2020 — Riedel Communications today announced that Chinese Television System (CTS) relied on a Riedel intercom solution to support its live production of the 2020 Taipei New Year's Eve Party, hosted at the Taipei City Hall Square. Broadcast live by CTS on its flagship channel and on its news channels, the seven-hour broadcast included multiple Taiwanese star performances, with an impressive New Year's Eve countdown lighting up the iconic Taipei 101 skyscraper and a stunning five-minute fireworks display. The show at Taipei City Hall is growing bigger and more spectacular every year and recently ranked among CNN's Top 10 places to spend New Year's Eve.

"For us it was important to have a reliable intercom system that would ensure smooth communication during a long live broadcast window," said Matt Lin, Engineer at CTS. "We expected a high level of noise from the crowd and also from the stage, and this was a challenge. Nevertheless, the production, camera, and stage crews came back with positive feedback on Bolero."
