Marquis Broadcast grows business-critical integration services Posted: 05/05/2020
Marquis Broadcast grows business-critical integration services

During these changing times, it’s more important than ever to ensure your company’s disaster recovery and business continuity tools are fit for purpose. Whether upgrading systems for remote working, streamlining workflows across a multi-site enterprise or enabling production sharing, each company has differing requirements and will often need complex integration solutions. With a complete portfolio of off-the-shelf apps and technology, plus an ‘interoperability lab’, where a library of third-party professional APIs and plug-ins is maintained, Marquis Broadcast has a unique ability to develop and deliver high quality and complex software integrations.

Many of Marquis Broadcast’s products have been recently upgraded. The latest versions of Project Parking and Workspace Tools systems provide native support and full functionality with the new Avid OP1A workflows. They also integrate with Avid NEXIS | Cloudspaces, letting you free up Avid NEXIS storage space and safely backup or park projects in the cloud. Medway allows the export of Avid sequences from all Avid platforms without requiring them to be flattened or conformed in Avid. This allows generation of genealogy information on a sequence, describing the content used in a sequence before exporting and flattening to a single output file. And Postflux, for Adobe® Premiere® Pro, improves the archiving, versioning, integrity, security, performance and sharing of Adobe Premiere projects in extended workflows, and has been updated to support additional project types, including Premiere Productions.

CJPs Kieran Phillips to Live-Broadcast Sponsored Head Shave Posted: 27/04/2020
CJPs Kieran Phillips to Live-Broadcast Sponsored Head Shave

Kieran Phillips, Sales & Service Coordinator at CJP Broadcast, will be live broadcasting his sponsored head shave on Tuesday April 28th to support St Michael's Hospice in Hereford. This will be accessible at https://youtu.be/utwavyouVFs and shared across social media. Donations are invited via https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/kieran-phillips4.

"We know how important the services provided by St Michael's are," Kieran comments. "They include a wide range of nursing, social and spiritual care for home-based and hospice-based patients, guidance and counselling for families, and practical resources for healthcare professionals. The Covid-19 pandemic has reduced the level of financial support many important charities are receiving at a time when they need that income more than ever. This sponsored head shave is one way in which we can try to offset the impact of the virus. We will also be working in conjunction with Luke Sutton Productions to make a promotional video for St. Michael's."

"Organisations such as St Michael's Hospice that totally rely on donations and fundraising are desperately in need of support to be able to continue their incredible work throughout and beyond this awful crisis," adds CJP Broadcast's Managing Director Chris Phillips. "We hope that our small contribution raises awareness of the work these compassionate and caring healthcare professionals provide to people and their families.”

V-Nova Collaborates with Amazon Web Services for On-Demand Low-cost High-quality Contribution over Commercial Internet Posted: 21/04/2020
V-Nova Collaborates with Amazon Web Services for On-Demand Low-cost High-quality Contribution over Commercial Internet

Video compression experts V-Nova have collaborated with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to offer a contribution solution based on SMPTE VC-6 that provides an important new option for broadcasters and producers worldwide, helping to drive up quality whilst avoiding the need for costly leased connections.

The volume of premium live sport and event contribution has been growing steadily in recent years and has been primarily reliant upon dedicated dark fibre backbones. However, the bandwidth requirements of low-latency contribution encoders have meant the cost of these dedicated connections has been prohibitive for many. Lower-quality, higher-latency encoders often have to be used to mitigate against this.

The combination of V-Nova’s P.Link contribution solution based on SMPTE VC-6 compression with AWS Elemental MediaConnect and AWS Direct Connect addresses these challenges directly. P.Link offers Intra-frame low latencies and equivalent quality at up to 70% lower bitrates than JPEG 2000 solutions. Transporting these feeds with AWS enables mission-critical one-to-one or one-to-many links that are easy to set up and are available in a cost-effective on-demand basis. SMPTE VC-6 encoding also notably reduces processing power requirements providing higher-density and lower operating costs. Extensive testing conducted so far has demonstrated excellent low-latency performance for feeds including 4Kp60 transport at less than 200ms between London and Sydney.

Telstra Global Media Network extends reach through new partnerships and capabilities Posted: 07/04/2020
Telstra Global Media Network extends reach through new partnerships and capabilities

Leading telecommunications and technology company, Telstra, announces advancements and partnerships to its Telstra Global Media Network (GMN) through a cloud gateway solution and media data services, as well as an extension of its GMN Partner Alliance with two new partners, PSSI and Intelsat.

Originally set to be announced at NAB 2020 and rolling out in April 2020, the new cloud gateway solution, known as GMN MediaNet, expands on the Telstra GMN’s international fibre, satellite and partner media networks by providing a gateway from “on-net” media rights holders to “off-net” media buyers, using cloud infrastructure.

Telstra is also adding data-based capability, known as GMN Media Data, using bi-directional and multi-point Ethernet services with the ability to create data channels that allow a point-to-point data link between a media company HQ and a remote event or location. Improving operations and workflows for contribution customers to bundle components which reduces their operational costs.

The Telstra Global Media Network is a purpose-built video contribution and distribution network integrating underlying media fibre networks, satellite capabilities, and partnerships, connecting 2500+ OnNet endpoints, including 1000+ customer sites and more than1500 venues and stadiums. The addition of a new secure cloud gateway to and from the network will allow high-quality video transport to and from markets with little to no infrastructure, as well as incident prone areas.

Foxtel Expands Ultra HD Services with Harmonic

Harmonic (NASDAQ: HLIT) today announced that Foxtel, a leading subscription-TV provider in Australia, has deployed Harmonic's software-based Electra® XOS live video processor to increase efficiencies in its Ultra HD service offering. Utilizing the AI-powered Electra XOS solution, Foxtel is able to deliver additional Ultra HD programming using the same fixed bandwidth capacity.

"Video delivery technologies have evolved tremendously over the past few years, enabling even greater efficiencies," said Darren Windus, distribution systems manager at Foxtel. 2wcom MoIN server software links production and distribution Posted: 02/03/2020
2wcom and rsquo;s MoIN server software links production and distribution

2wcom’s Multimedia over IP Network (MoIN) server software is a containerized solution that provides all functionalities that traditional hardware audio over IP codecs have implemented. In contrast to hardware codecs the software offers vast scalability options no matter, if it is run in the cloud or on premise.

Thanks to its realization as a containerized service the operator can make use of the pricing benefit for containers compared to VMs on all major cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud. The reason for the better price is that in contrast to a VM containers don’t need allocated resources like vCPUs or RAM. They just consume what the need to. Moreover, the use cases of the software are very different and just a few are named here:

Icecast to DVB Transport Stream Transcoding: This is used by a number of customers who want to make web streams available on a DVB transport stream that can be sent in cable networks or via satellite.

Streaming Encoder: The software can also be used to feed a streaming encoder for example the Wowza streaming cloud. Or, 2wcom’s solution transcodes the audio signals to adaptive bitrate protocols like HLS that can be distributed to the end customer by using a CDN.
