Snell today announced the release of the Archangel Ph.C – HD real-time video restoration system, a sophisticated yet cost-effective tool that ensures the quality of HD and SD content, thereby enabling content owners to unlock the value of their existing assets. Equipped with a robust feature set including real-time dirt, dust, grain, noise, scratch, instability, and flicker removal, the Archangel Ph.C – HD combines proven Snell processing performance, image quality, and reliability in a compact 3RU design.
"High-quality restoration often proves to be a laborious and time-consuming process requiring frame-by-frame editing; and as a result, a great deal of content still remains unrestored," said Paola Hobson, product manager for conversion and restoration at Snell. "Archangel Ph.C – HD, however, turns this problem into an opportunity, serving as an affordable solution for restoring material within just two to three times its running length. Delivering a clean product that often surpasses the original version while requiring less bandwidth for digital transmission, Archangel Ph.C – HD can enable otherwise unusable material to be shown, distributed, or incorporated into new productions. Available at a price point considerably lower than frame-by-frame restoration, Archangel Ph.C – HD also gives content owners a significant new means of increasing efficiency and, in turn, boosting revenue generation."
Ideal for documentaries, historical series, natural history, travel, biography, music, and other genres that regularly incorporate archive footage, Archangel Ph.C – HD restoration eliminates any sudden drops in quality that could adversely affect the overall impact of the program. As a growing number of films, features, and drama series are being remastered for sale on DVD and Blu-ray, the Snell system offers the comprehensive restoration necessary for these productions to meet the high quality expectations of consumers watching on large-screen HD TVs and displays.
Archangel Ph.C – HD enables users to restore content in real time, or up to 10 times faster than equivalent software products, and to deliver a greater quantity of quality SD and HD content far more quickly. The Snell restoration system provides a unique combination of stabilization, flicker removal, and noise reduction processes, with Ph.C (phase correlation motion compensation) used throughout to guarantee the highest quality results. Sophisticated artifact detection and measurement systems built into Archangel Ph.C – HD allow the operator to configure processes, settings, and filters to achieve the best result. The system supports both SD and HD (YCbCr 4:2:2, 10-bit; YCbCr 4:4:4, 10-bit; and RGB 4:4:4, 10-bit) and can be set to output video at the quality level required.
