Softel today announced an expansion of the company's partnership with Omneon, with the addition of Softel support for the Omneon Media Application Server(TM) (MAS).
Softel and Omneon are collaborating to develop an integrated solution that will allow customers to use the Omneon MAS as a control mechanism, enabling them to monitor subtitling operations performed by the Softel Swift(TM) vTX subtitling and caption encoder/transcoder through a common standardized interface. This development considerably reduces workflow management and operational costs and enhances workflow security by allowing only authorized users to work with media assets.
Initially, the integration will allow caption and subtitle data within existing media assets to be searchable via the Omneon MAS interface. Integration will be further extended to enable the extraction, transcoding and insertion of caption and subtitle data in all formats, with support for closed-captioning, open subtitling, Teletext and even Softel Multitext(TM), all through the same common interface.
The Omneon MAS offers different categories of media user access to content stored on the Omneon infrastructure, allowing users to manipulate assets in a number of ways, with the MAS coordinating applications to optimize their workflows. Softel's flexible and versatile subtitle and caption management and binding solution, Swift vTX, enables the extraction of subtitles or captions from an asset for editing or transcoding purposes, then provides seamless reinsertion.
"Following several successful projects together, we are delighted that Softel and Omneon's integration is expanding even further," says Geoff Stedman, Senior Vice President, Omneon. "Softel has an excellent reputation in its field, and we have a great number of prestigious joint customers worldwide. This additional integration will further enhance the solution we deliver to them."
"For many years Softel and Omneon have worked closely together to implement flexible and reliable solutions for our customers," says Sam Pemberton, Chief Executive of Softel. "Expanding Swift vTX to support the Omneon Media Application Server extends that flexibility by enabling customers and applications to easily make caption and subtitle data viewable and searchable regardless of source or destination formats."
