Sony has today announced a major strategic technology partnership with SIS LIVE that will see the leading outside broadcast company equip its 20 strong fleet of HD broadcast trucks with Sony cameras. These will be used to capture major UK and European live events in high definition.
The investment in the cameras will ensure that SIS LIVE continues to be at the forefront of live production and outside broadcast solutions, and to benefit from an enhanced workflow to deliver content more quickly to the UK and Europes largest broadcasters.
Since the partnership was signed in July, SIS LIVE has already delivered some of the most high profile events in history using the Sony solution, and staff at Sony and SIS LIVE have worked extensively to ensure cameras were supplied and integrated into SIS LIVEs fleet for the extremely busy live production period in the UK in July and August.
Following a competitive procurement process against other manufacturers including Ikegami and Grass Valley, Sony and SIS LIVE have entered into an agreement that establishes Sony as SIS LIVEs preferred supplier of OB camera technology for the next two years. SIS LIVE opted for the Sony HDC-2500 and Sony HDC-3300 camera solutions based on the specifications of its customers and its own engineering teams, coupled with the products high build quality, reliability and exceptional HD image quality.
The cameras, delivered in an initial instalment of in excess of 45 units, are part of the industry-leading Sony HDC series which is already an established part of the HD infrastructure of major broadcasters and production companies, and feature the same high image quality and usability as the extremely popular Sony HDC-1500.
The Sony HDC-2500, launched at IBC 2011 and shipped in early 2012, is Sonys flagship HDC live production camera and features 3G 1080/50P transmission as standard as well as a 2/3-inch CCD sensor. The cameras ability to record in multiple formats from 1080/100i to 1080/24p makes it one of the most flexible and adaptable cameras currently available and the perfect choice for SIS LIVE, enabling the company to broadcast in a wide range of UK and European standards, resulting in both time and cost savings.
The Sony HDC-3300 captures full-resolution 1920 x 1080 High Definition images at up to three times normal frame rates, fits seamlessly into existing XDCAM workflow set ups, and also offers simultaneous real-time, normal-speed acquisition.
David Meynell, Managing Director of SIS LIVE, commented: The two year agreement with Sony ensures that SIS LIVE stays at the forefront of technological development and continues to deliver the best possible coverage for our clients across the UK and Europe. We needed to make the investment in the cameras in July before an incredibly busy summer of live sports and events.
Chris Nairn, Sony Professional Solutions Europe added: SIS LIVE has provided the outside broadcasting for some of the biggest events across the UK and Europe this Summer, and our two year agreement to provide camera technology has ensured they are captured in stunning high definition. The Sony HDC-2500 has seen significant demand since it started shipping at the beginning of the year and is a perfect fit for SIS LIVEs fleet of state-of-the-art HD OB trucks, providing faster set up times, flexibility and reliability as well as outstanding HD images in a range of formats. This places SIS LIVE in a very strong strategic position for the foreseeable future.
