Volicon today announced that Gestin de Infraestructuras Pblicas de Telecomunicaciones del Principado de Asturias (GIT), a Neutral Network service provider over FTTH, is using the Observer(R) Remote Program Monitor (RPM) digital video monitoring and logging system to monitor video services delivered across its network. Supplied by systems integrator JokerTV, the Observer system makes it easy for GIT staff to monitor signals from different contribution points directly and to see how those signals appear to the consumer.
"By providing return video, automatically extracting faulty clips, and issuing alerts, the Observer RPM not only shows us the health of the services on our network, but also provides a visual record that our engineers can use to evaluate and repair any issues that arise," said Ivn Diaz, business development manager at GIT. "An image is worth 1,000 words. With visibility into all services -- no matter where they originate -- we maintain real control over the video services delivered over our network."
GIT operates a neutral fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network that is used by several different operators to deliver programming to customers in both cities and rural areas along the Asturias region. Each of these operators contributes content from a different part of the network, and the Observer RPM allows GIT to monitor all of these signals simply and from a single centralized location.
Installed locally or at a remote location, the Observer RPM 400 system continuously scans all channels in the lineup and tests signal integrity. The system automatically detects such faults as missing/frozen/black video, low audio levels, and macroblocking. When these faults occur, or when transmission quality falls below preset thresholds, the Volicon system issues alerts (via e-mail and SNMP) to GIT engineers. The system also provides clips illustrating the fault, thus facilitating faster resolution of the problem by engineering staff.
"Automated monitoring with the Observer RPM not only reduces the work and expense required to evaluate all channels continually, but also aids the user in identifying and resolving issues quickly," said Russell Wise, vice president of global sales at Volicon. "As a result, GIT is able to ensure that the services offered over its network maintain a high standard of quality."
