TVU Networks and rsquo; New Feature for Social Production Enables Real-time Virtual Communication and Interaction Among Production Crew and Talent

With Partyline from TVU Networks call participants can achieve a unique level of communication and interaction from remote locations as though they were in the same physical studio while producing live and pre-recorded programming. Partyline enables production personnel, talent and tools to collaborate remotely in real time with full HD video quality and perfectly synchronized audio and video. Partyline is making its debut as an integrated part of award-winning TVU Producer, a simple and scalable cloud-based solution for broadcast quality production and will also be incorporated within the TVU ecosystem for use with other TVU solutions.

“The global COVID pandemic has shifted the dynamic of TV production collaboration, requiring talent and technical staff to produce programming from their living rooms,” explains TVU Networks’ CEO Paul Shen. “Professional broadcasters require the ability to interact in real-time while producing programs in fully synchronized and broadcast quality audio and video. When achieved, that’s what we’re calling social production. It should be as close to in-person communication and interaction as possible. Producers shouldn’t have to settle for something that makes creating their important work more cumbersome.”

At Jordans Al-Mamlaka TV, IHSE KVM Systems Keep Live Broadcasts Running Smoothly in Landmark New Broadcast Center

IHSE, the leading manufacturer of high-end KVM (keyboard-video-mouse) solutions for extension and switching of computer signals, today announced that Al-Mamlaka TV, Jordan's first state-funded public service news broadcaster, has adopted IHSE KVM solutions for its all-new, state-of-the-art broadcast facility in the capital city of Amman.

Launched in 2018, Al-Mamlaka TV operates from a greenfield, futuristic new broadcasting center in Amman, with a 24/7 lineup of HD news and public affairs shows airing on both linear and OTT platforms. Al-Mamlaka TV worked with an IHSE systems integrator to design the landmark broadcast center, which boasts several firsts in the region: one of the first facilities to embrace virtualization, one of the first to feature a motorized video wall, and the first to make extensive use of augmented reality (AR). The centerpiece of the Al-Mamlaka TV facility is a 400-square-meter, seven-camera studio with five sets and an open design connecting it to the newsroom one floor below. A second, four-camera studio features three predesigned sets, and a third smaller studio looks out on an impressive view of the Amman skyline.

Anevia Adds Multi-tiered Storage to its Cloud DVR Storage Offering Posted: 20/05/2020
Anevia Adds Multi-tiered Storage to its Cloud DVR Storage Offering

Anevia announces the addition of multi-tiered storage to its Cloud DVR storage offering, Embedded Distributed Storage (EDS). This new feature makes EDS even more cost-efficient and scalable while also enabling storage in the cloud – meaning the solution becomes both flexible and elastic.

TV service providers are increasingly enriching their VOD content and need to expand their storage capacity without a commensurate increase in the number of users. The original hyper-convergent design of the scalable, high-performance EDS calls for more servers to be added to increase streaming and storage capacity in parallel. Multi-tiered storage means it is now possible to also increase storage capacity independently of streaming capacity.

With only a small fraction of the VOD catalogue being consumed regularly, long-tail content can be stored more efficiently and cost-effectively on general-purpose ‘cold storage’ support used by the IT departments. This eliminates the need to buy new servers and the related software licences, cutting both the complexity and the cost of scaling for a given number of users.

The newly introduced feature also enables object storage, which opens up the possibility of storing in the public or private cloud. This brings the advantages of scalability, flexibility and elasticity.

Bridge Technologies Partner with Appear TV to Provide Advanced IP-based Production and Distribution Posted: 14/05/2020
Bridge Technologies Partner with Appear TV to Provide Advanced IP-based Production and Distribution

On the back of their recent announcement of the new Integrated Services Monitoring (ISM) model, Bridge Technologies has demonstrated the value and robustness of their approach with technology collaborators Appear, in a setup which facilitates end-to-end delivery and monitoring of data, uncompressed to compressed, from production to end user.

ISM seeks to bring together the Bridge Technologies portfolio of products into a turnkey, easy-to-install media monitoring system.

It represents Bridge’s recognition of the increasingly merged and hybridized nature of the industry, where single entities may now operate on multiple layers of the broadcast and media cycle; from production through signal acquisition, contribution streams, picture archiving, OTT/streaming media, to traditional broadcast distribution with DTT or Satellite.

The advanced IP-based production and distribution setup – which would have also been demoed at NAB this year – is a successfully tested proof of concept for a full-length monitoring solution from production to end user, using standards SDI, SPTS, MPTS and OTT. The setup has been fully tested with four cameras with SDI outputs feeding an IP network processor to seamlessly bridge SDI and IP networks.

QCommunications Takes Flight with the Launch of its Airborne Division Manned by Company and rsquo;s QForce

QCommunications (QComm), a leading engineering project management and installation vendor specializing in The Spectrum Act (REPACK project), has announced the launch of its Airborne Division. The Airborne Division, established to answer the growing demand for safe and accurate signal verification and to maximize product optimizations, will use state-of-the-art, custom made sUAS’s (drones) with proprietary RF software as an added benefit and verification tool to serve and support the broadcast industry.

TV 2 virtualizes support and monitoring of IP media network operations with Nevion Service Operations Center Posted: 06/05/2020
Norway and rsquo;s TV 2 virtualizes support and monitoring of IP media network operations with Nevion and rsquo;s Service Operations Center

Nevion, award-winning provider of virtualized media production solutions, announced today that TV 2, the largest commercial television broadcaster in Norway, is using Nevion’s Service Operations Center (SOC) to provide proactive support and monitoring of its IP media network operations.

Having moved to IP production in 2017 with Nevion’s help, TV 2 initially chose Nevion’s advanced remote services, in order to leverage the expertise and experience of the SOC’s staff, and focus on its own core-competencies, including content creation. When the COVID-19 crisis developed, TV 2’s decision to virtualize the support and monitoring of its IP media network operations proved to be invaluable as very few staff would have been able to be on-site to maintain the network.

TV Direct, Thailand, Expands with PlayBox Neo Posted: 30/04/2020
TV Direct, Thailand, Expands with PlayBox Neo

PlayBox Neo announces the completion of an expanded playout system at the Bangkok headquarters of Thai broadcaster TV Direct. The installation doubles the network's capacity from three to six channels, transmitted in high definition via direct-to-home satellite and online.

"PlayBox Neo's Channel-in-a-Box system has the fourfold advantage of being installer-friendly, efficient to operate, easy to expand and highly reliable," says TV Direct's MCR Manager Akarachai Tobsin. "This new investment comprises three additional AirBox Neo-19 servers, each configured with the resources we need to schedule programs, commercials and promos as far in advance as the production team chooses to work. AirBox Neo-19 also allows us to make near-to-air changes in playout running order or to transmit live whenever we choose. In operational terms, the control GUIs go beyond intuitive by being relaxing on the eyes rather than imposing a lot of glare. Content can be accessed quickly, trimmed and finessed, all within the Neo-19 environment. That saves staff time and ensures maximum confidence. The servers are located at our satellite uplink service provider, PSI Broadcasting, here in the same city, and operated via secure IP links which carry complete program files as well as control data."
