Leading UK-based outside broadcast contractor Telegenic is using the Grass Valley™ K2 Dyno™ replay system (K2 Summit™ production client and the K2 Dyno replay controller) for 3D replays. The system is packed for easy transport in a flight-cased flyaway system and primarily used for sports coverage for UK-based entertainment and communications provider Sky.
When deployed recently with Telegenic's T18 stereoscopic 3D truck, the Grass Valley K2 Summit production client was used to feed mixer animation clips, primarily for 3D graphics sequences, into and out of replays using the K2 Dyno replay controller. Sky's desire to be first to market with stereo 3D broadcasting meant that the Telegenic team had to complete the truck and get it into service in time for the Arsenal vs. Manchester United match on January 31, 2010.
"The Grass Valley K2 Dyno replay system was one of the last pieces of the puzzle for us and the simplest of all the implementations," said Peter Bates, Managing Director of Telegenic. "We've tested the K2 Dyno in a number of other applications, and we're very impressed. Most slo-mo operators are used to another brand of server and controller, but converting to the Dyno takes just minutes, and the Dyno and Summit combination offers big advantages, not the least being the price."
Telegenic has used Grass Valley servers for almost 20 years, starting with the unconventional use of Profiles for slow-motion replay. More recently it has implemented location-editing networks based on Grass Valley shared storage and EDIUS® workstations.

Telegenic also purchased a K2 Solo™ server and EDIUS SAN system for the recording and program playout of Sky's coverage of last month's Players golf championship and the Ryder Cup, which takes place later this year.
