Globecast, the global solutions provider for media, has announced that it has partnered with long-term customer and education content provider, Mindset, to create an additional pop-up education channel for children across Sub-Saharan Africa.

When lockdown occurred in South-Africa due to COVID-19, Mindset, an NGO working with government, institutional donors and corporations, saw the immediate need to create an additional channel to reach younger children. Called Mindset Pop, it features educational programming covering the entire General Education and Training (GET) phase, including Early Childhood Development (ECD), as well as a key focus on the Grade four – nine curricula (ages nine to 15). The channel was launched on April 1st and has been broadcasting since.

The LYNX Technik yellobrik (model: OBD 1410) reduces the cost of transmitting and receiving uncompressed 12G SDI video signals in real-time and over fiber between equipment in a broadcast / AV facility or even over long distances - up to 10 km (6.2 miles). By using a single and bi-directional fiber link for transmitting and receiving video signals simultaneously, facilities can use this module to eliminate the challenge of expensive dual-fiber cabling costs. The OBD 1410 also saves space by reducing the number of fiber optical transceivers required for signal transmission.

PSSI successfully engineers complex transmission of American Idol finale

With COVID-19 dramatically changing the way television is produced, PSSI Global Services put its engineering and live event management expertise to the test to deliver a one-of-a-kind American Idol finale to viewers nationwide.

Due to social distancing measures and restrictions on large gatherings, the contestants and judges could not meet in one location for the finale. To meet this challenge, PSSI had transmission vehicles and engineers at the final contestants' homes across the country, as well as the homes of the judges and host, Ryan Seacrest.

Meanwhile, in Burbank, California, PSSI had its CK35 mobile teleport outside the production studio to receive all the remote feeds and send back the hosts to each location, as well as provide ABC with the network backhaul. All remote and return feeds were transmitted on three transponders of Eutelsat 113 West A, using PSSI International Teleport as a point of access for PSSI’s remote engineers.

To bring all these separate venues together into a cohesive show, PSSI collaborated with Nextologies to deploy Nextologies’ NXT-4 equipment to eight of the locations. This technology enabled the production team in Burbank to control each camera remotely by tunneling into the cameras via public internet.

LYNX Technik Launches yellobrik 8K Fiber Transmission Solution

LYNX Technik, provider of modular signal processing interfaces announces its new 8K yellobrik fiber transmission solution.

The LYNX Technik yellobrik (model: OTR 1A41) 8K fiber transmission system solves the challenge of transporting real-time, uncompressed 8K content (up to 48G) over long distances with zero signal degradation or loss. The standalone, self-contained kit includes all the parts needed to send 8K uncompressed video over a single fiber link. It consists of four independent 12G/6G/3G/HD/SD-SDI channels with each channel individually reclocked and supporting resolutions up to 2160p/60Hz. The kits include the 8K optical transmitter, 8K optical receiver and power supply.

The new OTR 1A41 8K fiber transmission solution can also be combined with existing yellobrik bi-directional transceivers to add Ethernet signals or RS232/RS422/RS485 signals to the 8K fiber link.

This new yellobrik supports uncompressed video at full 7680x4320 50/59.94/60 Hz resolutions with zero delay and complements LYNX Technik’s existing 4K transmission solutions, the OTR 1442 and OTR 1441.

Full audio support makes this 8K transmission set a fully-featured solution. The modules transparently transport all embedded audio, metadata and ancillary data which is present in each of the four independent SDI streams.

This system can be used as standalone or mounted onto 19” yellobrik rack trays to build a larger 8K transmission system.
