GB News chooses Quicklink Studio (ST55) for introducing high-quality remote guests into news productions

GB News, a free-to-air television and radio channel in United Kingdom, has chosen Quicklink Studio (ST55) for introducing high-quality remote guests into their news productions for national broadcast.

With a television audience of over three million viewers monthly and a further 415,000 weekly listeners on radio, remote opinions are a large part of the channel’s programming, GB News required a robust solution for introducing remote guests in high-quality with real-time latency into their around-the-clock schedule.

“Opinions and thoughts from remote experts/guests are a key part of GB News structure. As a result, it was extremely important that we adopted a solution that would allow us to obtain these opinions in the highest quality possible – Quicklink Studio allowed us to achieve exactly this,” said Stephen Willmott, Head of Technology & Operations at GB News

Utilising the Quicklink Studio (ST55) enables GB News to implement remote guests into their news productions with ultra-low latency. Using Quicklink Studio Servers (ST100, ST102, ST208 & ST200), the remote guests can be easily integrated into any workflow using HD-SDI, NDI and other professional broadcast outputs. Quicklink’s award-winning solution works within a simple web browser, with no apps or software installs required by the contributor. Contributors can be invited via SMS, WhatsApp, email or by generating a simple URL link.

Utilising the Quicklink Manager, GB News have full operational control over virtual rooms, remote guests and more within one central portal accessible from any global location. Using the intuitive remote management controls, GB News can very easily pre-screen, control and manage all guest participants, including camera/microphone/speakers selection, resolution, audio mode/gain and more.

Stephen added; “The management of remote guests is an essential part of introducing remote guests. Our guests are not always the most proficient with technology, however the remote control options within the Quicklink Manager allow us to overcome these challenges by being able to remotely control devices and other aspects of the remote guests. The Quicklink solutions are truly a fundamental part of GB News productions. ”

With opinions from remote guests being obtained from all over the world, GB News can utilise the Carbon Calculator tool which automatically calculates and displays the amount of CO2 avoided as a result of using the Quicklink solutions over travelling to the GB News Studios in person. Through intuitive reports, GB News can track their carbon savings in a simple interface, compare benchmarks and identify important levers for reduction over time.
