KitchenFish Counts on FOR-A Video Switcher and nbsp;for Reliable Coverage of Daily Lottery Broadcast and nbsp;

KitchenFish LLC, the video production company responsible for the nightly broadcast coverage of the South Carolina Education Lottery, is using a new FOR-A HVS-390HS video switcher for its productions. Located a few blocks from the state capitol, the KitchenFish studio hosts the nightly lottery drawings, and also supports live shots of state and local officials for national news outlets. The switcher was installed on April 14 and used for that evening’s production.

“We need to show all these graphics and video inserts simultaneously, and the new FORA switcher gives us a lot of flexibility,” said Jim Simmons, chief engineer for KitchenFish. “Price made a difference, but reliability is the one thing that has to be foremost, because we don’t have a second chance.

Intinor to Demonstrate How to Do Remote Production in Live Webinars With Skaarhoj Posted: 21/05/2020
Intinor to Demonstrate How to Do Remote Production in Live Webinars With Skaarhoj

Intinor Technology, Sweden’s leading developer of products and solutions for high quality video over the internet, will be demonstrating how to do remote production in a series of live webinars with Danish company Skaarhoj, manufacturers of universal broadcast control panels. The aim is to showcase how the remote production tools from both Intinor and Skaarhoj complement each other to give a flexible, secure workflow for live production using a variety of different content sources and locations.

Interest in remote production workflows (or REMI) has been on the increase for some time now already. Even before the current global social distancing requirements created an added incentive for broadcasting companies to seek an alternative to the traditional travel-dependent methods of production, the economic and productivity benefits that REMI offers enables companies to more easily meet the rising demand for live content.

FOR-A HVS-2000 Video Switcher Helps Custom Media Solutions Pivot from Live Event to Streaming Event with Limited Crew Posted: 13/05/2020
FOR-A HVS-2000 Video Switcher Helps Custom Media Solutions and nbsp;Pivot from Live Event to Streaming Event with Limited Crew and nbsp;

When the COVID-19 pandemic forced Orange Conference 2020, an annual event in Atlanta for Christian family ministry teams, to convert from a live, arena-sized event to a three-day streaming program, Custom Media Solutions relied heavily on its FOR-A HVS-2000 video switcher. The coverage required 16 inputs, 10 keyers, 11 DVEs, and at least four AUX buses.

Due to social distancing requirements, CMS had to produce the event using less than half of its usual crew in its production trailer. “We automated as much as possible using the features from the switcher,” said Marc Shroyer, president of CMS. “We had a couple of still stores with user flags and a lot of lower-thirds from the ProPresenter presentation system. We used DVEs for picture-in-picture looks that we could display on the multi-view at all times, so we could decide when to use them on the fly.”

CJPs Kieran Phillips to Live-Broadcast Sponsored Head Shave Posted: 27/04/2020
CJPs Kieran Phillips to Live-Broadcast Sponsored Head Shave

Kieran Phillips, Sales & Service Coordinator at CJP Broadcast, will be live broadcasting his sponsored head shave on Tuesday April 28th to support St Michael's Hospice in Hereford. This will be accessible at https://youtu.be/utwavyouVFs and shared across social media. Donations are invited via https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/kieran-phillips4.

"We know how important the services provided by St Michael's are," Kieran comments. "They include a wide range of nursing, social and spiritual care for home-based and hospice-based patients, guidance and counselling for families, and practical resources for healthcare professionals. The Covid-19 pandemic has reduced the level of financial support many important charities are receiving at a time when they need that income more than ever. This sponsored head shave is one way in which we can try to offset the impact of the virus. We will also be working in conjunction with Luke Sutton Productions to make a promotional video for St. Michael's."

"Organisations such as St Michael's Hospice that totally rely on donations and fundraising are desperately in need of support to be able to continue their incredible work throughout and beyond this awful crisis," adds CJP Broadcast's Managing Director Chris Phillips. "We hope that our small contribution raises awareness of the work these compassionate and caring healthcare professionals provide to people and their families.”

First Baptist Jackson Upgrades to HD Live Production with FOR-A HVS-490 Production Switcher Posted: 21/04/2020
First Baptist Jackson Upgrades to HD Live Production with FOR-A HVS-490 Production Switcher

First Baptist Church of Jackson in downtown Jackson, Miss., began broadcasting its Sunday services on a local TV station in the 1950s, but had not significantly upgraded its production facilities since the 1980s. Last summer, the church made the jump to HD production and anchored its redesigned control room with a HVS490 production switcher and MFR-3000 routing switcher from FOR-A Corporation of America.

Today, First Baptist Jackson streams live 1080p video to Facebook Live, YouTube, and its own website, with local 720p replays the following Sunday on WDBD (FOX) and WLOO (MyNetworkTV) in Jackson (DMA #92). According to Michael Bowen, minister of media and communications, any new switcher had to be “super volunteer-friendly,” because the church relies on more than 50 volunteers (as well as paid staff) to run its weekly production and other projects. The new HD system went live in late August, and he said it has created renewed excitement in their volunteers.

Freaks 4U Gaming Invests In Blackmagic Design For Esports Broadcasting Posted: 09/04/2020
Freaks 4U Gaming Invests In Blackmagic Design For Esports Broadcasting

Blackmagic Design today announced that international gaming and esports agency, Freaks 4U Gaming, has deployed multiple studios and portable production units (PPU) built around Blackmagic Design. The solution for acquisition, control and delivery, allows the facility to offer native 4K content creation services for broadcast and live streaming.

Whether for traditional broadcast or live streaming, the Freaks 4U Gaming facility can support a host of formats, ranging of esports content from gaming tournaments, Twitch battles and magazine style esports programming. As well as fully customizable studio sets, caster booths and presenter spaces, it also offers more than twenty studio pods where influencers can create content for their own social media channels.

Working with gaming specialists at Teltec Berlin, Freaks 4U Gaming has fitted out 2800m2 of multipurpose production space at its headquarters in Spandau, Berlin, with a fleet of URSA Broadcast and URSA Mini Pro G2 cameras, paired with 4K B4 lenses.

“Providing a bridge between esports, broadcasting and influencers, Freaks 4U Gaming has a reputation for creating engaging and exciting content,” explains Matthias Remmert, Freaks 4U Gaming’s Senior VP, TV & Media Productions. “We understand what the gaming community wants, and we can translate that into compelling broadcast shows like ran eSports for ProSieben MAXX, as well as international events such as Europe's Twitch Rivals tournaments.”

Matthias explains that this insight was the driving force behind the studios’ incredibly flexible production infrastructure. “We chose to install a SMPTE fiber network as the facility’s backbone so that we can produce shows and content simultaneously. It also means the various studio spaces can all be controlled remotely through a single production gallery when more than one location or space is needed.”

As audience appetites for sports coverage continue to increase, FOR-A Corporation of America offers a range of FT-ONE variable frame rate cameras to deliver the action in super slow motion. Recent advances now allow playback of 4K video at up to 1,000 frames per second to provide incredible detail for live broadcast applications.

“Sports continue to be a driving factor in the need for high frame rate cameras, and nobody delivers instant replays like FOR-A,” explained Ken Truong, President of FOR-A Corporation of America. “Our FT-ONE special purpose cameras are designed for super-slo-mo 4K acquisition of sports and other live event footage, and can be combined with other FOR-A tools to deliver unprecedented replay flexibility.”

BLACKMAGIC DESIGN ANNOUNCES BLACKMAGIC CAMERA UPDATE 6.9 Posted: 06/04/2020
BLACKMAGIC DESIGN ANNOUNCES BLACKMAGIC CAMERA UPDATE and nbsp;6.9

Blackmagic Design today announced new software update for its popular Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K and 6K models that include powerful studio camera features. Now customers can connect to an ATEM Mini switcher and get control of the camera parameters, lens and tally light. ATEM Mini can control up to 4 cameras via the HDMI video connection and ensure all cameras are perfectly matched for a professional live studio workflow. Now the same Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera can work as a digital film camera and a studio camera!

Blackmagic Camera Update 6.9 is available for download now from the Blackmagic Design web site.

Video and control is via the HDMI connection, which is available as soon as customers plug the cameras in. The record light becomes a tally light so customers can see which camera is on air. The ATEM Software Control camera page has a camera control unit (CCU) style interface for adjusting and matching their cameras. Move the CCU control vertically for iris and left to right to adjust black level. It's the same as a broadcast CCU. There are also controls for color tint to balance the camera as well as focus, gain and shutter speed. Customers can even ISO record Blackmagic RAW in the camera for editing later.

The elegant design of the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera packs an incredible number of high end digital film features into a miniaturized, handheld design. Made from lightweight carbon fiber polycarbonate composite, the camera features a multifunction handgrip with all controls for recording, ISO, WB and shutter angle right at their fingertips. Because it's an advanced digital film camera, the sensor is designed to reduce thermal noise allowing cleaner shadows and higher ISO. Plus the large 5 inch LCD makes it possible to get perfect focus at 4K and 6K resolutions.

AVIWEST Unveils New RACK Series Video Encoders for Live Contribution and Remote At-Home Production Posted: 25/03/2020
AVIWEST Unveils New RACK Series Video Encoders for Live Contribution and Remote At-Home Production

AVIWEST, a global provider of video contribution systems, today announced its new RACK Series, the next generation of the company's video contribution encoder set to be released this summer. By integrating a best-in-class hardware H.265/HEVC encoder as well as an H.264/AVC encoder into a compact platform, the RACK Series is designed for space-constrained live production, including contribution applications and multicamera remote/at-home productions.

"As broadcasters aim to deliver superior-quality video content for live events, data costs are spiraling out of control," said Samuel Fleischhacker, senior product manager at AVIWEST. "The RACK Series features a next-generation encoder that is extremely powerful, significantly reducing the bit rates typically associated with broadcasting high-quality video in real time over bonded cellular and the public internet."

The RACK Series is designed to be deployed in fixed locations and directly connected on wired IP networks, offering a real cost-effective alternative to satellite or fiber. In addition, the RACK Series can be used on vans or trucks and connected to a roof-mounted AVIWEST QUAD CellLink 3G/4G antenna or KA satellite transmitter, enabling video broadcast from any location around the world, even in the midst of unpredictable and unmanaged network conditions.

Equipped with a user-friendly, intuitive touch screen, the unit supports multiple operational modes including live, record, live and record, file forward, and data hot spot for high-speed internet connectivity. All of these operations are possible in only two taps on the touch screen. The brand-new RACK Series also features a SIP-based intercom to simplify communications between the master control room on the broadcaster premises and remote operators in the field. Another key benefit of the RACK hybrid encoder is its video return function. In less than one second, it enables remote crews to receive the on-air feed from the studio, receive teleprompting information, and ensure the live stream is being delivered properly.
