Four new one hour programs produced from scratch and three movies processed in just three weeks with Quantel Stereo3D technology

London-based Can Communicate is nearing completion of a challenging Stereo3D project for the UK's Channel 4 Television. The project involves the complete production of four one hour Stereo3D programs, and also the processing of three full length Stereo3D movies. Two of the documentaries go under the banner 'The Queen in 3D' and feature footage shot in the last couple of months as well as rare Stereo3D footage from 'Royal Review' which was shot on film in 1953 at the Coronation. The latter is being aired in public for the very first time, having languished deep in the BFI archive for the last 50 years. Both films are co-productions with Renegade Pictures. All the Stereo3D correction and grading is being carried out on Can Communicate's Quantel Pablo color correction and finishing system.

The play’s the thing for The Camera Store and Vinten Posted: 10/11/2009
The play’s the thing for The Camera Store and Vinten In response to a tough challenge, Quattro pedestals from Vinten®, a Vitec Group brand and global leader in camera supports, have been modified for track use by The Camera Store. The new skated pedestal hybrid – now given the nickname Skquat – was developed to get cameras into the audience for the National Theatre's NT Live project, which sends live coverage of plays from London to cinemas around the world.

Director Robin Lough and senior cameraman Paul Freeman recognised that the cameras needed to be in the audience to get the right coverage. The alternative, using cameras at the back of the auditorium with long lenses, leads to uninvolving images because of the foreshortening effect of the zoom. Getting closer to the action gave more intimacy.

Hollywood Black Magic Filter Big Part of Reynolds; Bag of Tricks for Better Off Ted Posted: 10/11/2009
Hollywood Black Magic Filter Big Part of Reynolds; Bag of Tricks for Better Off Ted
When cinematographer Brian Reynolds began prep for the Fox/ABC half-hour comedy series Better Off Ted, his challenge was to trim the budget and keep the quality look as well as the 11-hour work day. "One of my first choices was to add Schneider's Hollywood Black Magic filters to our lenses," says Reynolds.

"They are nothing short of amazing," he says, enthusiastically. "They combine the smaller lenslets of HD Classic Soft and added Black Frost. What this does to the skin is amazing. When you are shooting HD, you are suddenly looking at an unfiltered image. Make-up freaks out. Same with set designers and actors. Adding the Hollywood Black Magic does away with that. It makes the image seem more like film.
