Custom Consoles Reports Accelerating Demand for Operator Safety Screens

Custom Consoles reports accelerating demand for Operator Safety Screens. Designed to help technical control room and media facility staff maintain social spacing against coronavirus infection, the screens commenced shipment in early May.

"With over 300 sales in its first three months, the Operator Safety Screen proved to be one of the fastest selling new products in our history,\" says Custom Consoles' Sales Manager Gary Fuller. "Nearly 300 have been ordered in the past two months alone with deliveries now approaching 600. New customers in the broadcast media sector include BT Sport, ITV, Red Bee and Reuters. We have also received many repeat orders from existing Operator Safety Screen customers. It is quite a long list now, including Al Jazeera, Amazon Prime, BBC Studioworks, BETV, IMG, Input Media, ITN, ITV, One Ten Productions, QVC, Racing UK, Solenis, STV, STV North and Timeline Televsion. We have also seen substantial demand from system integrators such as CJP Broadcast, Dega and Gravity Media."

"Many broadcast media facility managers initially responded to Covid-19 by encouraging staff to work from home,\" adds Custom Consoles' Managing Director Neil Reed. "The Operator Safety Screen was developed in response to demand for a practical and effective way to reduce the risk of cross infection. Sales have doubled in August and September as broadcasters returned from lockdown to a carefully supervised regime including temperature checks, screen dividers in all galleries, UV cleaning and one-way pedestrian routes. Customer feedback shows quite clearly that the screens do indeed give protection provided shared IT tools and desk surfaces are sterilised."

Custom Consoles Operator Safety Screens are designed to fit the Module-R series of technical furniture. They also fit all other desks in the company’s product range and those manufactured by other furniture suppliers. Each screen comprises a strongly built birch plywood main frame with rigid low-profile floor supports. A clear polycarbonate panel bonded into the upper section of the frame gives operators an uninterrupted view of all equipment as well as their adjacent colleagues, to support normal workflow. Handgrips are integrated into the frame for easy relocation.
