Eros Now chooses Verizon Media Platform to meet global demand for Bollywood streaming content

Verizon Media has announced that Eros Now, a premier South Asian OTT entertainment platform, is using the Verizon Media Platform to meet global consumer demand for high quality streaming of Indian cinema.

India is home to Bollywood, the world’s largest film industry with an annual output of almost 2,000 films. Global demand for Bollywood content is growing rapidly and Eros Now has attracted over 177 million users to its service by housing over 12,000 movie titles, TV shows, Eros Now Originals, and short-format content – Eros Now Quickie. In order to retain its market leading position in India and also futureproof its ability to penetrate additional markets, Eros Now chose to migrate from its technology-dense streaming stack to a fully managed streaming service.

“As we continue our mission of bringing Bollywood content to a global audience, it’s crucial that we invest in cutting edge technologies to maintain high quality online experiences for the millions of users accessing our service from a range of devices and locations. Verizon Media’s Platform is renowned for its unparalleled streaming capabilities and high performance network, which will play an important role in helping us deliver an unrivalled user experience to our customers around the world,” said Ali Hussein, CEO, Eros Now.

Eros Now chose the Verizon Media Platform to simplify its video workflow and provide an end to end managed service from ingest to delivery. Verizon Media’s workflow includes encoding, storage, delivery and provides support for all major DRMs including license server management. The cost and time-consuming nature of constantly updating these services individually is mitigated by delivering them all seamlessly via the Verizon Media Platform. With more than 140 points of presence globally and 100 Tbps of capacity at the end of 2019, the Verizon Media Platform provides Eros Now with a high performance streaming network to reach consumers in India and worldwide.

“One of the biggest challenges content service providers face is being able to deliver high quality experiences to international audiences,” said Ralf Jacob, President, Verizon Media. “Eros Now is meeting this challenge head-on by using the Verizon Media Platform to simplify its video workflow so it can focus on delivering compelling user experiences. We’re honored that Eros Now chose Verizon Media to help further elevate the visibility of Bollywood content among an international audience.”

Dejero Wins Second Prestigious Technology and Engineering Emmy Award Posted: 21/01/2020
Dejero Wins Second Prestigious Technology and Engineering Emmy Award

Globally recognized award underlines how Dejero exponentially improves flexibility in location coverage for newsgathering and live events crews

Dejero, an innovator in cloud-managed solutions that provide award-winning video transport and Internet connectivity while mobile or in remote locations, has been awarded a second prestigious Technology and Engineering Emmy® Award. The award, in the category of Video over Bonded Cellular Internet (VoCIP) technology, recognizes Dejero’s innovation in the industry, thanks to its Smart Blending Technology and unique hybrid encoding approach.

Headquartered in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, Dejero has perfected its patented and patent-pending Smart Blending and hybrid encoding technologies over the course of the last decade. The technologies work in concert to form a tightly integrated system which responds in real time to changes in network quality and video content. This has helped transform how broadcasters contribute live content from the field using cellular networks, providing newsgathering crews with greater flexibility in terms of the location from where they can transmit a live shot, at a fraction of the cost of conventional uplink technology.

“We are thrilled to win not just one Emmy® – the most recognized broadcast award in the world – but two,” said Bogdan Frusina, founder of Dejero. "Last year the committee rewarded our decade of innovation for pioneering reliable transmission methods that enable live contribution and distribution of TV signals over the public Internet. This year they have gone on to further recognize our industry-leading technologies, showing that our continuous development is raising the quality and reliability standards of mobile video and data transmission.”

Masstech launches new Adobe Premiere Pro panel for Kumulate Posted: 21/01/2020
Masstech launches new Adobe Premiere Pro panel for Kumulate

Adobe Premiere Pro users can now access the powerful functionality of Masstech’s intelligent storage, workflow and lifecycle management solution, Kumulate, from directly within Premiere Pro via an intuitive panel.

The Adobe panel can be quickly and easily added to any Kumulate system with minimal configuration (individual editing stations don’t need to be added as locations in the system). Storage movement and workflow tools are then presented as a plug-in within Adobe Premiere Pro, allowing users to access their entire inventory across any type of online or deeper storage tier, including cloud, local disk, optical disk, and LTO.

All assets on all storage tiers are searchable to Premiere Pro users from within the new panel, using intuitive search criteria including structured, unstructured, and time-based metadata. These powerful tools allow users to quickly access their content libraries from within Adobe Premiere Pro, dramatically speeding up workflows.

Los Angeles based producer and composer Carlos Rodgarman has installed an AMS Neve Genesys Black console in is private studio in Los Angeles.

Within months of installing the G16 desk, Rodgarman was so impressed by its power, flexibility and the way it streamlined his workflow that he upgraded to a G48 by adding a 16 channel expansion module. He also took the opportunity install the Neve GenesysControl Plugin and Neve 88R EQ hardware.

The SDI output from the Quicklink TX is fed into the mixer and then into the studio screen and live output.

“The Quicklink TX has enabled our Journalism students to introduce live remote contributors without the need for them to always come to the studio itself for a short interview. The solution allows our BJTC MA Journalism students to replicate remote live feeds as seen on professional broadcast productions.” Mark Willett, Senior Media Technician at Leeds Trinity University.

Mark continues “The Quicklink TX not only supplements our remote live streaming location camera but enables Journalism students in the field using a phone with Skype to provide live remote coverage”.

Intinor joins SRT Alliance

Intinor, Sweden’s leading developer of products and solutions for high-quality video over internet, has joined the Secure Reliable Transport (SRT) Alliance.

SRT is an open source video transport protocol that optimizes streaming performance across unpredictable networks, enabling the best quality live video to be transported over even the most questionable networks. The SRT Open Source project, which is spearheaded by the SRT Alliance, is a collaborative community of industry leaders and developers striving to achieve lower latency internet video transport by continuously improving open-source SRT.

As part of its participation in the alliance, Intinor has added support for SRT’s “Listener” delivery mode, soon to be followed by SRT’s “Caller” and “Rendezvous” mode to the entire Intinor Direkt Router range. Intinor has also used the opportunity to add support for NDI® connectivity.

Intinor CEO Roland Axelsson said, “The industry has embraced SRT, which has proven to be a truly collaborative and beneficial way of working together to establish a streaming protocol that mitigates or resolves issues that still surround video transport latency without having to resort to resourcing expensive alternatives.

RUSHWORKS, provider of cool technology for production, playback and streaming since 2001, enters the market with a bang for 2020, introducing another “powerfully simple” integrated PTZ production system for remote and studio operation.

“It’s truly astounding what technology is serving up” says Rush Beesley, RUSHWORKS president. REMO NDI incorporates a touch screen computer with super-fast processing, providing a small footprint system with enormous capabilities that marry well with RUSHWORKS mature production and camera control technology.

The standard REMO NDI system is powered by an All-In-One computer with 24” touchscreen and blazing fast i9 processor operating on Windows 10 Pro with 1TB SSD storage. It includes the RUSHWORKS custom shortcut keyboard, six-button Hall-effect joystick, an eight-port PoE GigE switch, and two (2) NDI PTZ cameras with 30x optical zoom lenses.
