Vionlabs announces the launch of Emotional Fingerprint API, a cloud-based solution that enables media companies to make better decisions based on deep AI generated video data and insights. The cloud-based solution is easily integrated with existing workflows throughout the entire video acquisition, production and distribution chain. Emotional Fingerprint API provides a significant advantage in areas such as determining acquisition and production strategies, personalized UI and video recommendations, as well as enabling intriguing opportunities in advertising.

Emotional Fingerprint API provides deeper analysis and data by measuring thousands of factors throughout the duration of the video, including colors, pace, audio, object recognition and many more variables to produce an AI-derived fingerprint timeline, frame-by-frame, that represents the emotional structure of content that the industry needs to empower its decision making.

Content Analysis Platform which uses AI and deep learning and combines this video analysis with a viewer’s detailed watch history to provide industry leading content discovery services to operators through a cloud-based SaaS model. The solution is designed for linear TV, catch-up, streaming, all flavours of VoD and is made available to video operators through a cloud-based SaaS model.

Media Links Appoints Tsukasa Sugawara as new CEO

Media Links, manufacturer and pioneer in Media over IP transport technology, has appointed Tsukasa Sugawara as its new CEO, effective April 1, 2020. Tsukasa was previously Chief Technology Officer for the Company and succeeds John Dale III, who will remain actively involved in the role of Chief Marketing Officer. John also remains a board member of Media Links.

Tsukasa has been the CTO for Media Links since June 2014 and is a key architect of Media Links' ongoing IP product development strategy. As Media Links‘ new CEO, his leadership expertise will help steer the company and its dedicated and talented employees forward toward its next generation charge into 100G and beyond Media over IP transport technology, serving broadcasters and service providers across the globe.

Ms. Wimmers has over 24 years of experience as an executive in the technology and telecommunications industries, most recently as President of Huawei/HONOR Europe and Vice President of HONOR Global. Prior to joining Huawei in 2016, she held senior positions at companies including T-Mobile and Deutsche Telekom (DT). During her five years at DT, she was the company’s Chief Procurement Officer, managing a €30 billion annual budget and leading a team of 2,500 people in 50 countries.

A founding investor in and former vice-chair of the NativeWaves advisory board, Ms. Wimmers has extensive experience working with technology start-ups, focusing on developing teams and strategies. Rascular, designers of software-based powerful, customisable control and monitoring applications for third-party, professional video technologies, has today announced the launch of three new versions of its RouteMaster Lite virtual routing for Newtek NDI® application: RouteMaster Lite Solo; RouteMaster Lite One; and RouteMaster Lite Four.

RouteMaster Lite - a Windows PC application - brings familiar video routing capabilities to Newtek’s NDI video. Based on Rascular’s proven RouteMaster system, it gives operators a range of familiar control interfaces for controlling video switching. With typical switching times of just one or two frames, RouteMaster Lite is perfect for live and on-air use. This ultra-fast switching makes it suitable for manual intervention and other applications where quick response is essential.

Roddy Pratt, Technical Director with Rascular, says, “Because of our strong commercial relationship with NewTek, we are very pleased to be able to provide ultra-fast switching, a uniquely powerful capability. RouteMaster Lite is ideal for OB and production environments, supporting up to 20 sources and 20 destinations. The built-in GUI is ideal for preset and take switching, showing resizable video previews and audio metering of the current video and the chosen source.”

No video streams are passed through the router system, instead traffic is redirected at the network level. This means only minimal bandwidth and processor requirements are needed, regardless of the number of video streams and resolution. There’s also no additional video delay through the system. Imagen, the intuitive video management platform, has extended their long-term relationship with PA Media (PA), the national news agency for the UK & Ireland and a leading multimedia content and services provider, to upgrade and enhance its video portal.

An Imagen customer since 2014, PA recently called on Imagen to update the look of its customer-facing portal to reflect the company’s new branding and improve its functionality.

The upgraded portal now features a new partner area, allowing PA to host and label third party content alongside the news agency’s own editorial output. Enhanced search functionality and metadata display enable PA’s customers to surface relevant content from the vast catalogue of newsroom-ready, customer-ready and partner content, and in doing so, increase its speed to market.

Improved analytics functions from Imagen also allow the agency to track how customers are accessing and using content from the video portal by surfacing search records and user journeys.

In addition, PA has engaged Imagen’s content licensing business – Screenocean – to represent its video content. The new licensing agreement will enable the agency to find even more new audiences for its video content and, in turn, increase its revenue streams.

Globecast, the global solutions provider for media, has announced that it has successfully received security assessment from Trusted Partner Network (TPN) for its Digital Cinema business to address video piracy and content redistribution.

Formed in 2018 by the Motion Picture Association (MPA) and the Content Delivery & Security Association (CDSA), the TPN program is a high-level, industry-wide film and television content protection initiative that helps companies safeguardtheir content. “The TPN program helps companies prevent leaks, breaches, and hacks of their customers’ movies and television shows prior to their intended release and seeks to raise security awareness, preparedness, and capabilities within our industry,” says TPN.

Through a single benchmark of security preparedness, it enables vendors to assess the security readiness of their facilities, staff and workflows against industry best practices. Once a vendor completes a TPN assessment, they are then published in an online directory of trusted partners that’s accessible to all production, post-production and distribution operations involved, allowing content owners to quickly and easily assess their level of security.

Globecast’s Digital Cinema service handles the transferring of digital content quickly and efficiently to 1,300 theatres in France (representing over 5,100 screens) through the public internet. It is also expanding this business across other international markets. Globecast manages everything from ingest and storage of the DCP files on premises to monitoring quality control and delivery notification via SMS or email.

Following the International Skating Union (ISU)’s postponement of the 2020 World Short Track Speed Skating Championships in South Korea, the China Short Track Speed Skating team decided to go ahead and organize a ‘Simulation Game of the ISU Championships’ in Beijing. Tencent Sports, the main broadcaster responsible for the live production and public broadcast, turned to LiveU to implement a remote production solution, deploying only the necessary equipment on site, including the cameras and wireless transmission units. All the rest, including production, contribution and distribution, was handled by Tencent personnel back in the studio in Tencent’s technical center.

This was challenging work within the strict limitations of the COVID-19 outbreak. The event organizer closed the stadium, didn’t allow an audience to minimize the risk of people gathering in one place, and limited the number of essential staff onsite. Tencent Sports used four LiveU LU600 HEVC bonding units, which provided solid high-quality live video streams with low delay. All the streaming came to a single high-density LiveU server, with the same delay, optimizing LiveU’s Precision Timing™ in its at-home production solution. With support from China Unicom, 5G signal was also available in the field – all the LiveU units combined both 4G and 5G connectivity to ensure optimal streaming conditions.
